I first tried this franchise last time I was in Toronto, so imagine my delight when I found out there was a location in Richmond. The shop is along one of those streets in Richmond with tons of restaurants, but it's a bit tucked away in the back of a plaza.

Daan Go Cake Lab makes some of the most creative and delicious pastries I've tasted in the GVA. From their extensive selection of adorable macarons decorated with cute characters to their imaginative cake flavours, theres something for everyone.

Not only are the cakes moist, rich, and flavourful, but they're also decorated beautifully. Some are made to look like realistic bowls of Ramen or mugs of Vietnamese coffee. Others take inspiration from nature and plants like the cactus you see in my photo. They've even got a bathtub complete with rubber ducky. In _most_ of them, all of the decorations are edible.

If you're in the area for a meal, I HIGHLY recommend skipping dessert at other restaurants, and coming to Daan Go to check out what they've got.

This used to be my go-to individual hotpot restaurant in Burnaby when going out with friends. The menu options are vast and there was always something that appealed to everyone we brought.

We would often get the combo set with whichever protein we fancied that day and enjoyed the great value and variety it offered.

However, at some point post-COVID, they moved to a new location, and it was at that point that things went downhill from my perspective.

Portions are smaller on the combo, not just meat but veggies too. You'd think they want you to fill up on cheap carbs and cabbage, but instead, I left still hungry the last time I visited. At the same time, prices are higher. I dont recall what we used to pay, but our bill for 5 people came to about 25% more than the last time, for essentially the same set of dishes. We also encountered some cleanliness issues, and so haven't been back since.

Last time we were there, a spider rappelled down from the ceiling and suspended there about eye-level, right above one of our friend's soup. Staff needed to be asked a few times to bring us some extra napkins to deal with it. They didn't bring napkins, instead just squashed the spider where it hung and just walked away. A few of the sets also had cabbage that didn't appear to be washed. Our friend understandably lost his appetite and didn't feel like eating much after that, so we paid and left shortly after.

This pay-by-weight personal hotpot shop in Burnaby has quickly become my go-to hotpot staple. Theyve got two locations just around the block from each other on Kingsway, and both are ALWAYS busy, so be sure to come early to put your name in, and prepare to wait.

It's definitely worth it though. The staff is very helpful explaining how it works before unleashing you onto the wall of hot-pot ingredients for you to choose. Keep in mind youre paying by the weight, so try to make your choices count. Maybe skip on the heavy carbs in favour of pricier choices like meat and seafood.

After you're done choosing, you bring the pot up to the counter and choose your broth. My recommendation is to get the combo, which comes with a bubble tea drink and an ice cream cone for dessert.

I've tried about 4 different broths so far and none have disappointed. Favourites include the collagen bone broth, szechuan green pepper, and the sa cha broth. There is also a sauce bar where you can go up and mix your own concotion, although its been reduced a bit since they opened the second location

Amrinder was extremely professional and helpful. He quickly figured out the root cause of the issue i was having, and was able to resolve it quickly, and gave advice on prevention in the future.

He was also able to answer my many questions about what he was doing and other concerns i had about the house's plumbing.

Milani is a little on the pricier side, but when you need to get a plumber in ASAP, they have never failed me yet.

10/10, would recommend Milani and Amrinder to friends and family.

I'll start by saying, the drinks here were incredible. I don't recall anymore what we ordered, because they have a rotating drinks menu, but the bartenders did a fantastic job. I had some sort of whiskey cocktail with aromatics that made me think of a forest cabin if I closed my eyes, and my partner had a delicious, lemony-fizzy gin drink of some sort. Both looked and tasted out-of-this world.

Service: Not great - We had to constantly flag down the server to order drinks, food, get water refilled, get our bill, etc. It got to the point where I ended up going to the hostess to ask to pay for our bill so we could leave.

Food: so overpriced - $40 for linguine al funghi? $8 for 2 pieces of sourdough with oil? We also got a pork special which was pretty good, and quite juicy which isn't a given for the cut. However, as with the others, I'm not sure it justified the price.

Atmosphere: Pretty nice, music was not too loud, good enough to carry a conversation with a small group. Note that there are not many large tables, so if you are more than 4 or 5 you may want to find another place.

Overall: Pretty nice spot for drinks or catching up with friends, but if you're looking for a full meal, don't be fooled by how great the seasonal menu sounds. There are lots of great Montreal restaurants you can experience the same quality and better service, for less money.
