I heard this place gets crazy crowded on weekends and it wasn't too bad especially since outside seating was closed due to weather. I loved seeing all the freshly baked bread and pastries right when you walk in.
I go the baklava croissant and bread pudding, both were amazing, but I highly recommend the bread pudding and say yes when they ask you to heat it up.
We shared the fish plate getting octopus, white fish, gravlax salmon, pastrami salmon, and salmon belly. I would say its necessary to get a side of the everything bagel and scallion cream cheese. They give you marinated tomatoes, red onion, capers, soft boiled egg, tahini, and lemon on the side. The best was the salmon belly, gravlax, and octopus. For me the white fish was too hard and fishy.
I want to come back to try their lunch sandwiches, but overall good experience and will be back soon. -

GREAT Food. Crappy experience. The lines are insanely long. The prices are stupid high. There's an automatic 15% service fee for Takeout. There's no parking. It just seemed like a complete cluster. The pastries and food were definitely as good as advertised, but the whole cost and experience brought me to the conclusion, I'm glad I tried it but I won't be back.

Gjusta offers tasty pastries with an airy, beautiful outdoor space and plenty of good people watching. I will say the service is pretty slow and ordering at the counter is slightly confusing. They unfortunately add a 20% service charge, which I thought was steep for a few pastries that were handed to us upon ordering and our three cups of drip coffee, so just a heads up there.
- Coffee Cake: light and fluffy, very simple. Prettier than it was tasty.
- Chocolate Croissant: delicate layers and crisp exterior with a nice thick ribbon of dark and compact chocolate at its base - delicious.
- Tahini Croissant: savory and sweet, so so generous with the tahini filling, some bits of white chocolate mixed in as well? My favorite of the bunch!
Would come here for ambiance and solid food. Could totally see my friends posting up here for the work day. It reminds me a bit of Grocer's Table in Wayzata, MN! -
Breakfast at Gjusta was lovely. My friend and I shared pastries on their beautiful outdoor patio. I couldn't choose so ordered the baklava croissant, tahini croissant, and scone. The tahini was slightly sweet which was an unexpected but not bad touch. The scone was super moist, in a great way-- not dry at all. The quick line took 5-10 minutes on a Saturday morning which wasn't too bad. Really nice spot!

Make sure to grab a number, keep it and have it ready when they call. Saw a lady get turned away because her kid had the number paper so she couldn't order.
Around 1pm on a Monday, it was packed. They already ran out of the popular items like the tahini croissant.
We shared a pastrami Reuben and got a loaf of ciabatta to go. They do auto charge of 20% if you dine in or 15% for take out which is quite absurd. Dine in is a seat yourself first come first serve. It took awhile, about 20 mins for our one sandwich to come out. Granted they're busy but still. I also notice they messed up on another customer's order and were quick to try to resolve it but things still took awhile. Sandwich was good, not enough meat though. While it was a tasty sandwich, the cost was about $20 which is expensive for something so simple! My ciabatta loaf was $14, it was good bread but still pretty expensive so I'll stick with whole foods or the supermarket. I'd recommend to try once but I just don't think the cost and chaos of the place is worth it, especially those auto surcharges. Seating is outside in their courtyard which is charming but nothing that spectacular. -
Come here for the tahini croissant!! This is single handedly the best pastry in town! Prices are a little high for what you get, but the food is delicious.
When you go in for a sit down brunch meal, make sure to take a ticket. You dont need one for takeout pastries. This probably confuses everyone and doesnt warrant low reviews.
I cant speak for the rest of their menu but the breakfast burrito was delicious as well as our coffee and pastries.
Seating is first come first served so it can be difficult to find a seat on a busy day. Regardless, the outdoor space is beautiful and cozy. -
I tried Gjusta yesterday for the first time! The set-up is quite interesting; it's structured like a deli, so you pick a number & wait to be called. Make sure you pay attention because the music is quite loud & they call numbers quickly! You then let the person behind the counter know what you'd like to order -- there's a large assortment of pastries, drinks, breakfast, and lunch items.
After ordering, you go outside & seat yourself in this really pretty, quaint patio with plants and lights.
I ordered the mascarpone French toast, the salmon bowl, a tahini croissant, and a matcha latte. The items came out decently fast but at different times. The French toast was decadent - soft yet crunchy and covered in cinnamon and apples. I really liked the salmon bowl, which had really bright, acidic kimchi and pickled radishes. The tahini croissant was flakey and buttery; I liked the nutty taste, but it was a bit sweet for my liking.
Overall, I'd come back here! I'd like to try more of their savory options. -

This was our first meal during our LA trip and we really enjoyed it! I ordered the ham and egg sandwich ($12), a matcha latte ($5), and tahini white chocolate croissant ($5.50). The ham and egg sandwich was pretty good and had a lot of meat in it. I liked it but I found the meat to be too salty. It was very filling. I forgot to ask them to make the matcha latte iced so ended up with a hot latte on a warm day. They don't add any sweetener to the latte. The latte was nice and creamy. The best item of the morning was the tahini white chocolate croissant. WOW this was incredible!! At first I had wanted to try their famous baklava croissant but they were out of it and the server said he personally liked the tahini white chocolate one more so we decided to try it. It was so perfectly flaky and just mildly sweet from the white chocolate and slightly nutty from the tahini. It was pure perfection and unique. It's a MUST TRY!
Gjusta seems to be a very popular spot with line out the door. We had to wait about 30 minutes or so to order our food. They have a lot of other fresh food items that they sell such as bread and meat so it's a cool mix of restaurant plus fresh market. Their outdoor seating is nice and felt very LA. Of note they automatically add a 15% tip to takeout and 20% tip if you dine in... -
After hearing about it for so long, I finally tried it out for brunch and I 100% understand the hype. Their bread is the star of the show, and their dishes do a fantastic job highlighting its freshness.
No matter what you order for your entree, I'd recommend getting the bread and butter to truly appreciate the quality of the bread. It's served with a generous portion of butter and flaky salt and it's absolutely divine. I was also a big fan of the french toast, which was topped with fresh fruit, cream, and a delicious caramel sauce. We ordered some pastries to go and they were all excellent, but the tahini croissant was my favorite! Sesame adds a wonderful nuttiness to the pastry and I've never seen it used to fill a croissant before. The only item I wouldn't order again was the passionfruit limeade--it was quite tart, so I'd only recommend it for those who can handle really sour drinks. Otherwise, everything we ordered was delicious!
The service was fantastic as well. Our server was so friendly and she gave us great recommendations because it was our first time at the restaurant. We sat outside on the patio and staff member brought us an umbrella because the sun started bearing down pretty intensely. Even though it's busy on the weekends, we only had to wait 20 minutes for a table, and they have a small store to shop around while you wait. Overall, we had a great experience, and will definitely be returning! -

What a freaking experience. I had been dying to try Gjusta for years. I love the Gjelina cookbook and follow along with Instagram posts. When I was in LA for a trip, I finally got the opportunity.
My friends and I did not hold back. We started with pastries and mezze. The pastries were all to die for. The tahini croissant is something I will never forget. A must order. I will be back for it. I've always wanted to try the salmon roe bagel, it delivered of course. But it is super salty. I'm glad we shared. The burrata tomato confit baguette is INSANE. garlicky, acidic, decadent, crunchy and all good things to create a symphony of a sandwich. The smoked fish plate was involved and perfectly done. So many interested fish selections. All the bread was baked to perfection with expertise. The crunchy cucumber salad was so refreshing and lemony. Tons of fresh herbs on everything made the dishes stand out.
Gjusta is epic. Don't miss out if you're in the area! -

I've heard this place is rather legendary, so I really wanted to try it. It makes Zabar's in New York seem like a grocery chain.
We didn't do anything from the vast deli department, but next time.
As for the breads, and incredibly true olive bread with olives. really good robust olive flavor in every bite.
The Tahini croissant stole the show. Definitely the best filled croissant I have ever had. Such a unique flavor that really works with the almost chard flakiness which was fantastic itself.
I will caution you, the loaf of bread was $16. Expensive, because I think there are other great bread makers in town who make just as good a bread but not as expensive. That being said, the tahini croissant, which was $5.50, I would paid double next time. A very unique and over the top taste that was so special and will definitely keep me coming back -

A whopping five stars for their pandemic safety protocols. They have some nice outdoor seating. Staff is super friendly and helpful.
Picked up some pastries fir a lunch party today, expecting to be wowed and ended up being less than impressed.
Lemon Ricotta cake - definitely the best thing we tried.
Croissant with tahini and white chocolate - sounded amazing, but I found it kind of boring.
Blueberry scones - meh. Most of the group found them dry.
Be advised they also add on a rather large service charge (15%) for takeout orders. -

Tahini croissant and salmon roe bagel were delicious! Pretty pricey esp with the mandatory extra 15% but people were super nice and I'll definitely be coming back to try other items

Okay, first off... the outside patio here is such a vibe. With plenty of varied seating, spaced far apart and in the shade, this set up itself deserves all the stars. I was dining alone on a weekday and brought my laptop to send off some quick emails. It was an idyllic space to get some work done while waiting for my food... for nourishment, I ordered the lox charcuterie which was plated beautifully with ricotta, sprouts, tomatoes, pickled cucumbers and onions... really the photo says it all... an assortment of toasted bread served on the side. This would make an amazing shareable among friends, but I did manage to make a good dent into my dish and enjoyed piecing together my toast on a nice day. Wait staff was kind enough, but seemed distracted. (It was mid-morning busy.) I would love to go back at some point to try the pistachio croissant or tahini croissant. They were out by the time that I rolled in, but I am sure they are as delicious as everything else in the Gjelina family.

Every time I'm in or near Venice, I can't resist going to Gjusta...it never disappoints and exceeds expectations every time. Got a rezy on Open Table so we were seated in the patio right away. The Brisket Banh Mi is hands down the MOST delicious sandwich in the world, with the bread and thin sliced brisket, garlic aioli and fresh cilantro just putting it over the top. We couldn't resist the salmon roe toast, and the fresh butter on pumpernickel was scrumptious. Also had to get the Felafel Plate...superb assortment of tahini, hummus, tzatziki and Israeli salad with perfectly soft pitas and falafels. Wowwwww, always memorable.

Lox and potato plate was watery and each component tasted poor or not at all. Taste, texture and appearance of the food was subpar and amateurish in every respect. Price was exorbitant. Gross. Gave an extra star because the tahini pastry was good.

Gjusta is an experience in itself. The food, the environment, the craziness that is navigating and sitting down - all play into what it means to dine at Gjusta. Upon visiting with my out-of-towner friend, I was instantly obsessed with the various products arranged around the restaurant/market. Cooking supplies and ingredients along with a deli counter full of fresh and unique sides. On a Sunday afternoon, Gjusta is understandably busy. Nestled away in Venice, this is not so much of a hidden gem but almost like the cool Los Angeles insider's club. It is a quintessential LA groupie's dream. Fresh, organic produce and unique dishes are complemented by the rustic restaurant design and outdoor patio.
My friend ordered their veggie sandwich, which comes on whole wheat and filled with roasted peppers, tomato, fennel, radish, pickled turnips, avocado, sprouts and tahini. As a big fan of bowls of all sorts, I ordered the grain bowl (a breakfast option). Luckily, our times overlapped because the sandwiches are only available 11am-10pm/close and the breakfast options from 7:30am-2:30pm. My grain bowl came with braised greens, kimchi, fermented turnips and tops, a soft egg and some vinaigrette. I chose the smoked salmon belly (avocado is also an option).
Our food options were both delicious and enjoyed down to the last bite. Unfortunately, with the crowds of people filling up the popular joint, we were not able to score a table. Instead, we stood at the bar to eat. My friend and I are both rather chill diners and this was not a problem for us. However, if having a solidified seat is a priority, attending Gjusta on a weekend morning/afternoon is not the best idea.
My grain bowl was $16 and the veggie sandwich was $15. Although both on the pricier side, the quality and seasonal ingredients were definitely worth the splurge. I would not choose to eat at Gjusta frequently but for an occasional treat/opportunity to woo an LA visitor, I would for sure return. -

i got there at 3:30pm-ish on a sunday, and they were all out of baklava croissants. i was sad, but guess that means i'll have to go back! i ended up getting a slice of their chocolate tahini torte from the recommendation of one of the employees, and my friend got a slice of their chocolate olive oil cake topped with piles of amazing looking raspberries.
the tahini torte was kind of disappointing. it was very chocolatey in a fudgey brownie/flourless chocolate torte kind of way, but the tahini wasn't very strong. i was surprised that it tasted like cheesecake. not a bad thing, but i wasn't in the mood for cheesecake at that point. the cake was better- super moist chocolate cake with a surprisingly strong and fruity olive oil flavor, topped with tart raspberries that cut through the richness of the cake wonderfully.
three stars. a bit pricey but high quality and inventive.
