Q:
Aside from beer and wine is there a hard liquor section?
A:
In Virginia "hard liquor" is only sold in State ABC stores. Virginia maintains a monopoly on these items.

I can't complain about the variety of stock and the sales floor aesthetic when it comes to this Wegman's.
Still, I, as well as a few other Wegman's shoppers, continue to be mystified by the fact that this grocery store chain located this outlet in out-of-the-way location that is only known only to the locals. It reminds me of the Where's Waldo mazes popular in the 1980's.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Carla M.Fort Belvoir, United States5284Feb 17, 2018
My family and I absolutely love this place. We shop at the Hilltop location in Alexandria. It's indeed a one stop shop. I highly recommend. The food is always so fresh and the store is so clean.

Visited for fresh desserts in the bakery. Cannolis were 4 stars and tres leeches cake was close to 5 stars. YUM. Extra points for the bakery selection and help finding things. The staff went out of their way to show where specific sweets were located.

After 3 years from my initial review I had to come back and update my review since what I call "The Wegmans Experience" is no longer valid. Like I always do in my reviews I discuss the reason for my rating by dividing it into separate sections.
THE STORE. The store has lost its Cozy Charm and inside is starting to look more like a Wal-Mart. They have remove shelves that were dividing different sections of the store. For example the Cheese and olives section from the produce. Now it is wide open. There is an increase of noise and buying specialty cheeses is no longer a special experience.
Wegmans is pushing its Family packs. As such they have pallets that are not even properly aligned through out the store giving it the appearance of a Sam's, BJ's or COSTCO but without the warehouse prices.
The store floors were dirty. And this was not a one time, they have not clean yet situation. There is a crude building in front of some of the shelves and refrigerators like if nobody has clean in weeks, or worst yet, they don't really clean the floor, they just go trough the motions.
THE SEA FOOD BAR is gone. They took (according to the store front manager) the two top dishes and they are selling them next to the sushi bar. This new "order window" looks to me less appealing than the McDonald inside a Wal-Mart.
PRICES. Normally you have no problem paying a bit extra for good quality and good service. The prices in Wegmans continue to increase while the "Magic" is gone.
SERVICE. I had issues again with a cashier when I was using the self-checkout and she was shooting the breeze with other employees instead of paying attention to the customers. I also was not to trill with the response I got from an employee when I asked what happen to the Sea Food Bar. She was focusing on the fact I could get a beer in the new "order window." I could care less for a beer. I wanted to sit at the counter, look in the menu and order a meal. It used to be a really pleasant experience.
CONCLUSION. Don't go out of your way to go to Wegmans. Most Supermarkets in the area have been renovating and making them more appealing. I will still go if I need something and I am in there area. I am extremely disappointed.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Jan 1, 2011Previous reviewI was a sceptic when Wegmans was announced. I was expecting just another supermarket. How wrong I was. Price wise compared to Giant, Safeway and Bloom their prices are very competitive. I would say they are less expensive. The produce section is fantastic. There is nothing you can't find in there. The presentation and quality is something the competition has to emulate if they want to compete.
Wegmans Bakery is extraordinary. A bit pricy, but you are paying for the quality and the service.
Their prepared food section again is excellent. Their food bar is very good, too expensive for my taste for Chinese/Thai/Indian food,
Their fish/steak sit down is "finger licking good." Their crab cakes are fantastics.
I mention service a couple of sentences above. Wegmans employees are the best in the business. I have never seen people work so hard to make sure you were a happy customer. For example, one day I arrived at the bakery late in the evening (around 8:00PM) and all their Italian bread was gone. I asked the baker if they were out. She said yes. Then she asked me how many loafs I wanted. I said two. She ask me if I could wait 20 minutes. I said yes and she proceeded to bake fresh bread for me while I waited. She took two of the loafs from the next morning batch. THAT IS SERVICE. Like that I have several stories of how they go out of the way to help you.
I had a bad experience once with a cashier. I made the comment t on Wegmans web page. Oh my God. The amount of feedback I got, It was like if the cashier had attempted against the life of the president. The manager of the store explained to me the emphasis they put on quality service and any behavior (no matter how small) that undermines quality service is not tolerated.
For the record, I live 1.5 miles from a Giant Foods and I rather drive 10 miles to Wegmans. - Daniel G.Lyon Village, Arlington, United States696311Mar 21, 2018

Great fruits and vegetables. Produce staff very helpful and pleasant. Hot bar selections are plentiful. Best cornbread! Store sampling got me eating roasted Brussel sprouts.

Best line of supermarkets ever. Clean, well organized, lots of options, friendly, and they don't cheap out on cashiers. 5 stars all day.

I really love Wegmans, the people are wonderful. They stock great, fresh items and lots of specialty items. SAMPLES are always nice. The store is always clean.
I also like the food bars, if I can't make my mind up about dinner I can walk around and get ideas or get something premade.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica P.Durham, United States7426751Oct 23, 2010
Wegmans is simply heaven. A heaven for food. I'm going to compare it mostly to what I think is the next nicest grocery store: Whole Foods. Wegmans is way cheaper than Whole Foods, they have more selection (since they DO include all foods), and they have a much larger fresh food selection.
First, there are the groceries. Wegmans is so huge. I don't think the even BUILD and new ones unless they have a mile of open space. They have everything you could ever want. Best beer selection around AND a walk in beer fridge! They also strive to have a local and diverse selection. Example - I now live in North Carolina, where a small soda called Cheerwine is made. I still can't find it much here, and only in 2 liters at the supermarket. Well WEGMENS in WOODBRIDGE, VA carries Cheerwine (diet and non diet) in 24 pack glass bottles for $12! Heaven.
Then there's the hot food. Anything you can imagine! From a delicious sushi bar to hot subs to full dinner meals ready to go. The bakery is huge, and everything is wide open so you can see everything baking/cooking/preparing.
This, my friends, is the definition of heaven. If Wegmans someday decides to grace us all in North Carolina... I will probably live in the store.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Scott M.Holiday, United States54180183Aug 5, 2014
I write reviews on businesses in the hopes the owner will correct problems or continue behavior I appreciate. Three words: Sweet Potato Pie.
*Update: They always overcharge $2 on their Sweet Potato Pie...check your receipts.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
