I have been to many Inns like this. But to charge what they do to bring a wedding to their place (55 strong), have a noisy room, toilet fails, charge top dollar, and have zero amenities, and a front desk that steers you astray, was pathetic. This ain't no Mohonk, way overpriced and way under-delivered.

Just terrible for what it claims to be.

We contacted the Auberge to reserve the Deux nuits dans le parc package. This package was listed starting at $440 + tax.

When speaking with the Auberge receptionist, the quoted price became $1076. I enquire about the sharp price increase and was told the price will vary according to the day of the week, time of the year and so on. Having travel a lot for leisure and business, I was fully aware of those variation in price and let the receptionist knows about it. She informed me that the price was initially $440 per night but the price on the site was quoted as $ 440 + tax for the package. I told her that it was incorrect and voiced my concerns about a 250% price increase. At that point I forego the reservation.

My girlfriend tried to contact them and request to speak with the manager. All she could get was her voice mail. To this day, we still haven't got a call back from the manager and for some reason, they have amended the price on their site to reflect our phone conversation.

I believe the staff of the Auberge Wakefield Mill Inn should go back to school for a Customer Relation 101 course. Yes mistakes are made, but one should stand up and acknowledge their mistake. This type of behaviour reflects poorly on the establishment. It also shows the Wakefield Mill Inn is more worried about the profit margin than the customer.

I kept waiting for Inspector Ganache to walk through the door.

What a lovely place. We stopped for a late lunch on Boxing Day after visiting with friends who live about 30 minutes further away from Ottawa.

We were seated at a table overlooking the mill stream. The room was warm and welcoming on a snowy day. The waitress was charming in two languages. The menu was tempting. And the food was both presented beautifully and was fantastic.

We shared paté de foie gras as a starter. My friend had a salad with magret de canard. I had a small steak with winter vegetables. Both were excellent but the magret was both more beautiful on the plate and tastier.

We even ended up chatting with the lovely people at the next table who were celebrating a round birthday.

If you're in Ottawa, make the trip to Wakefield. And let me know if you bump into Inspector Gamache.

Overall an amazing visit. Very good staff and clean nice rooms. All questions were answered promptly. We visited the two restaurants - Le Muse for breakfast and Le Heron for dessert and drinks. Both were beautiful and we got to sit in the solarium. Le Heron's desserts were underwhelming but the drinks were very good. We visited Le Hibou for nearby dinner and it was delicious! Highly recommend that place! The hot tub was above ground compared to the photos on their Instagram but still very very nice in the winter. We only stayed for one night but I'm sure there is lots more to explore with a longer stay :)

Stayed one night on the 3rd floor. The rooms did not have a mini bar and the air condition was really loud.

That's all the bad things I could say about the hotel. Great staff, amazing surroundings and the views are breathtaking. Will definitely return to try the spa.

      A/K/A The Wakefield Mill.

Although it sounds so much more alluring en Francaise.

Be sure to check the reviews over there for a fuller sense of this excellent converted mill which is now a hotel, restaurant and day spa.

      Way cool place!

What a great experience we had here a few weeks ago. We booked tandem massages.

We had a beautiful room right next to the waterfall, the water was hitting the glass on the window, it was absolutely gorgeous! We both had the deep tissue massage -- for an extra $10 it is absolutely worth it! After the hour massage we spent some time in the hot tub with another stunning view of the waterfall. Spray from the waterfall was refreshing and the hot tub was soothing.

After, we went upstairs to the bar, had a beer (quite expensive for two pints) and played cards. The bar has all sorts of board games and even a billiards table.

All in all, it was a great experience and money well spent!

This is my first time to Wakefield, and it is such a lovely little village to get away from the hustle and bustle for a relaxing weekend getaway.

At the heart of it is Wakefield Hotel & Spa which I reserved the "A Special Day (with Dinner)" package as a couple. Keep in mind you should book in advance as this tends to fill up quickly, especially weekends!

I highly recommend that package as it was worth the value and a great bonding experience with your significant other or person you want to pamper with.

You have access to their hot tubs or pools (only summer) for the day (we opted out of due to personal preference), have a wonderful 3 course dinner at Muse (fine dining restaurant), and an awesome 60 minute massage. I only have compliments for the incredible service, flavors from the food, and great ambience facing lovely scenery. It was super romantic and even the wine choices were exquisite. Truly a great dining experience for the foodie in me.

The couple massage was 10/10. The bed and blanket you lie on was heated which keeps you nice and cozy while you enjoy a nice massage. Even the waiting lounge was relaxing with their couches and complimentary tea/water. After that massage, I slept like a baby that night and woke up feeling more refreshed than I had felt for months!

The package is not cheap, but worth every dollar for the experience. Save your money, book a weekend off, and make sure to indulge in this package with that special someone.

I did not stay at the hotel, but it would have been excellent after the massage instead of trekking back out again.

Tip: Purchased a $100 gift certificate from Costco online (maximum limit) to save $20 which was applicable to apply on this package. Yes to bonus savings!

Stayed here almost 10 years ago then recently I returned back for a few days worth of business meetings. All I can say is wow, simply amazing and probably my favourite Auberge in the province of Quebec.

      10 Reasons why:

      1) location is amazing - 20 minutes from Downtown Ottawa and just around 2 hours from Montreal.

      2) close enough to civilization but yet the Auberge is tucked away into the most serene picturesque Gatineau hills near the wonderful village of Wakefield.

      3) the Waterfall - simply amazing- just check it out!

      4) the main lodge is old world Quebec. The new LEED pavilion is new world clean sleek look and architectural clean lines and minimalist design

      5) the food served is decadent, fresh and masterful. Some of the best food I've eaten in all my travels in North America and I'd rate it with some of the top restaurants in Europe. Very gourmet and fresh flavours that are divergent complimentary and decorative.

      6) the bar, pool table and excellent selection of drinks. The lounge area in General is very warm and welcoming.

      7) the fact that they had my favourite beer Sam Adams on tap. Plus lots of other spirits, wine lists were excellent and I could even sip some knob creek bourbon or have a martini in the evenings.

      8) the variety of meeting rooms present were very good. (only negative was the chairs for the meetings were not very comfortable for long days)

      9) the fact that there is a very upscale menu also a pub-lounge menu.

      10) the nature surrounding the place and the peace and tranquility. Perfect for a team meeting.

I cannot speak volumes of this place as either a weekend vacation, place to honeymoon of you want to be away from all the action or for a team meeting it's more than ideal for some or all of these reasons and then some.

Really it's a treat and if I can come back I definitely will.

Love the location and ambiance. So much history and effort went into making this place a real gem.

But the restaurant service has been, and continues to be, quite terrible. The food is ok. It's fairly standard fare, with a few nice elements to add to the presentation - similar to what you'd get at a reception or conference.

The service though is really disappointing. It's been many years of trying this place with various friends, family members and colleagues, and results are fairly consistent. For what you pay ($200+ for a dinner for 4 people) you'd expect fairly solid service and efforts to accommodate special (and even standard) requests. But by the end of each meal, you somehow feel like you were asked to accommodate more than what you received, as each request is met with "sorry, can't do that" or "it would take us some time to ask the kitchen...".

The bill comes and everyone feels disappointed, and it's such a shame given the potential of this place.
