Our party of 18 dined at Trolls for lunch. We didn't have a reservation and chanced upon getting a table. After 5 minutes, we were seated in 3 tables of 6 which was perfect.
Our waiter was attentive and we got our food in a reasonable amount of time. Just as any big party, there's always one who does not get their food with the rest of the group. Luckily, it was only a sandwich and it came shortly after.
The food is ok and the service good. The place is quaint and location perfect in HorseshoeBay. Our tour guide told us to try the fish and chips which was the specialty. Unfortunately, no one complied and stuck with soups and sandwiches .Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lindsey H.Vancouver, BC02Nov 10, 2023
The servers are genuinely delightful.
With regard to the food, I normally order the grilled salmon with vegetables. The several times I have dined at Trolls for dinner I've order the same item. I've noticed a few hours after enjoying the meal, I have an after taste of metal each time. It seems the salmon must be farmed.
Metals are rather toxic to consume, causing inflammation to the nervous system when of high quantities. Maybe not the best choice from their menu.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andrew T.Greenwich, United States522052Apr 21, 2024
Got fish and chips, thereby so called specialty. Greasy and the batter fell off the fish. Friendly staff.

On par with ferry food. Just ok. Service would prompt and the booths are cozy. Don't get why it has lasted so long. As exciting and memorable as White Spot.

The service was good the staff showed up and were courteous.
Unfortunately, the food was absolutely disgusting. We ordered the salmon burger, which tasted fishy and fresh out of the freezer. We advised the server she took it back and brought us the cod burger. This was not a good choice either fresh from the freezer again.
The Caesar's we ordered that cost 12.00 each had watered down vodka after I left I notice wow I didn't even get that light glow from 4 oz of vodka, I guess they forgot to put it in or the staff has watered down alcohol, if you go there get a beer in a can or bottle so it won't be tampered with.
A hot dog at a 711 would have been a better place for lunch.
Avoid this place!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 63140379Aug 28, 2022
Walked in around 2pm on a Sunday... The front hosts didn't acknowledge me when I walked in so I did have to wait a couple of minutes before they finally acknowledge the fact that I was there, took down my name and then I got seated right away.
We were told to leave our stroller by the entrance and that the staff would keep an eye on it for us.
We got a booth by the window so we had a nice view when we had our lunch.
They gave us the menus and a kids menu (coloring page) for us, some water and a closed lid kids water. Their menu was quite extensive but since the name of the restaurant contains fish and chips, that was exactly what we ordered. We got the cod fish & chips, cod burger, kids halibut & chips, and also their white clam chowder.
The cod fish & chips was actually really delicious. The batter to fish ratio was perfect. Their fries were plain but it was good after we added some salt & pepper.
The kids halibut & chips ($16) was basically one adult sized piece of fish with fries. So it was very worth it! The halibut was very soft, flaky and fresh. The kids meal also included a children drink as well as an ice cream cone for dessert.
The cod burger ($19) was a giant piece of cod inside a burger with lettuce, tomato, onion & pickles. That was also very good too.
I quite enjoyed the clam chowder ($15 for entree size) , although I did have to add some salt to it. But better under salted than over salted so everyone can customize it to their taste!
We walked out of the restaurant super full as their portions are quite large and very delicious! Would definitely come back again!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Jul 7, 2022
Troll's is self proclaimed home to the best fish and chips in Horseshoe Bay. The windows overlook majestic views which adds to theoe charm.
We tried the halibut and cod fish and chips. The dish came with coleslaw and tartar sauce. The portions were great considering each piece was about 19 bucks. However, I feel this place is a touristy place because after the first bite you will realize that the fish is not extraordinary tasting. Hell! The outside batter was not even crunchy. The fries were good though.
An unexpected find at this place was the long island iced tea. I have never been a big fan of it but they had one of the most delicious LIIT I have ever had.
If you are ever in the area and visit Troll's, I would suggest passing on the fish and chips but definitely trying their LIITHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Feb 1, 2023
We came here to get breakfast and I ended up getting the "Fisherman's Breakfast" which had scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. I found everything to be a bit dry especially the hash browns and bacon. Overall, I didn't think it was anything too special but an okay place to grab breakfast if looking for something near the ferry terminal.

Super disappointed in my recent experience here. The halibut and chips entree tasted so bland and one of the pieces of fish was cold and soggy. The waitress quickly replaced it with a fresh piece and while the batter second time around was crispy, the inside of the fish was only lukewarm.
Fries were ok, some were hot and crispy, others not. Don't understand this inconsistency.
Service was efficient and waitress was pleasant.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2021
=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE
With a view of the bay and good food and service on tap, there's a lot to like about Trolls if you can get past the relatively high prices!
=== 2. FOOD
Fried Calamari ($16):
As an appetizer, it works for up to two people. There is an argument that the portion (and/or individual pieces) are quite small, particularly for the price.
Joe's Fish Stew ($23):
If the price doesn't floor you, you would be relieved to know that the portion is large enough for two people to share and they don't hold back on the pieces of cod, halibut, salmon, and baby shrimp! It does come with two jumbo shrimp and two pieces of garlic toast.
Kid's Meal ($9.50):
This is likely the best value on the menu: for this price it includes your choice of beverage (we chose milk), a one-piece fish and chips entree (large enough for an adult, really - the fries are fresh-cut from potatoes) and two scoops of ice cream with your choice of strawberry or chocolate syrup. I only wish kids of all ages could order this :)
=== 3. SERVICE
The service was great - friendly and quite attentive. They told us it's family-run, and that is believable.
=== 4. ENVIRONMENT
As a fellow Yelper mentioned, it looks like a diner on the inside...old-school wood decor with a canoe hanging from the ceiling and a "chef" caricature stuck in the middle of a wall. But the light is tremendous, with big windows on two sides, including views of Horseshoe Bay. Wheelchairs and baby strollers could fit...but only just. Parking is available across the street and along nearby streets.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0
