Would not recommend. The haddock is likely frozen grocery store food. It's definitely processed into a block and probably been in the freezer for a while. The food also made someone in our party sick.
Server was ok and the beer was fine but this is a pretty low bar. Would advise to go to one of the other near by places or even try the local brewery next door.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 1, 2023
Busy and good fish and chips. Always my go to place in Tobermory. This is the place with mainly fish and chips and some salad . As they are focus on fish and chips, other option available is chicken fingers and shrimp in basket.
Servers are very friendly and helpful. They provide extra places and cups for friends to share.
Fish is very well done among all I have in the Bruce peninsula area. The outer crispy breadcrumbed is thin and both white fish and halibut is very juicy. She white fish is local caught and not frozen.
It is a casual place and kids and family are welcome. Music always on and always make you have vacation feel.
Only unexpected is they offer bottled pop instead of cups with free refill.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 9, 2023
Would be more of a 3.5 out of 5 if given the option. The food is what it is- remembering that this is solely a fish and chip place and anything else cannot be expected to be spectacular.
The menu is limited with everything being fried- would have loved a grilled fish option for the lighter eaters but again- this is a fish a chip place so.... Got the gosh taco, the chicken taco, fries and the desert.
The tacos were loaded with mayo with I didn't love but I guess I could have asked for it without- the fish chunks were delicious. The FRIES were delicious- even with ketchup - super tasty- the brownie was warm but missing ice cream on top!
The service was amazing!! Our server was super attentive and casual, normal, and quick! The ambience is super casual and dog friendly on the patio! The sign at the front says "Good boys welcomed"Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 9, 2022
Food is good enough and the fish is local which is great. There is an opportunity for better. If they would make more of the menu from scratch (eg tartar sauce, bean salad, fries etc) it would elevate the place to the next level. Prices were not cheap $18.99 for 2 piece fish and chips with no coleslaw or salad.
It was good but could be betterHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katt Y.Mississauga, ON1227608Jul 15, 2022
There are so many fish & chips restaurant around the area, we spoted this place on our way to the LCBO.
It was amazing!! There fish was really fresh, their extra light batter was fantastic, golden fired crispy on the outside but still can keep the moisture on the fish. Bravo!!!! High recommendedHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 20, 2022Updated review
I had high hopes for this place and it definitely tasted good, the fish and chips at least.
The white fish, a bit unexpected but in a good way. Not highly breaded (good), tasted good, but kinda small. It's not the typical size I'm used to.
Otherwise, I'm told the taco is not anything to write home about. It's also not a taco, it's a burrito. It could use some presentation, it came to the table fully wrapped.
The bathrooms, in the back, usable.
Service, kinda hard to get service. Nice and kind, but weren't always there when you needed. Maybe hard to get servers I guess?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 2, 2013Previous reviewI'd say this is the best fish and chip place I went to in Tobermory. Their fish are really nice fishy pieces of white fish I believe. They still have the skin on them with a light layer of batter. We're not talking traditional English style fish&chips with a huge, we're talking pretty healthy less batter more fish.
For four people, we ordered 6 pieces thinking it'd be fine. But when it came, it was quite small actually so we ordered 6 more.
The fish taco was a disappointment. Original Tobermory fish taco I am sure, but it just wasn't that great.
Onion rings were a fair bit. Often times you order onion rings from places but they give you like 5 pieces, this place gives you a whole basket.
I like the location, just on the other side of all the business but with a perfect view of the water.
If I wanted fish&chips, I'd come here. - Lily C.Toronto, ON038105Aug 2, 2022
Chill restaurant to have lunch in Tobermory.
The fish & chips were quite standard, nothing special. The fish was not tender enough. But they were all crispy.
No recommended if you are really hungry since it might take long time to have the dishes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amy M.Old Toronto, Toronto, ON01Jun 25, 2023
Was I'm pressed with food.
careful with ordering take out. People are rude and will talk shit about you if they hand you the wrong order.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richard B.Santa Rosa Beach, United States0537Sep 30, 2022
The fish is fresh and lightly battered and not greasy.
Unfortunately neither the skin or mud vein were cleaned off fish.
Don't get much fish for $18.
The fries are not fresh cut
Lovely setting over looking harbor and nice service.
Purvis Fish and chips in Gore Bay and Herbert fishery in Killarney set a higher standard.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 25, 2018
Fish and chips are pretty common in Tobermory...so I think my expectations were a bit high.
First off - most restaurants close around 9pm (there are a few open to 11pm - those are the pubs). This restaurant closes at 9pm so make sure if you want to go to dinner - try to go a bit earlier. There is outside seating as well as a few tables inside.
So when in Tobermory, do as the Tobermorians do and order fish and chips! 2 pieces of fish and some fries are a decent portion for one person. Unfortunately I found it underwhelming and under seasoned. Some salt and some lemon would have done absolute wonders. It wasn't that crispy battered fish I was hoping for and the fries were mehhhh. If they were fried a bit more with some salt, it would have been a great improvement
The server was really friendly - but it only looked like there was one person! I know Tobermory is a small town (I think population of less than 4000) and in talking with the server she said it's hard to find people to work in the area, which is why lots of places close early!
Overall I was disappointed with the taste.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
