I'm so grateful for The Cake Box! My husband had to be in Kitchener at the last minute during his birthday. I'm in California and I wanted to make it as special as I could.
The challenging part is that my husband is allergic to gluten. Nothing on Doordash or Skip the Dishes was coming up. I emailed The Cake Box the day before his birthday and they were extremely helpful and accommodating.
Not only was The Cake Box able to bake his favorite flavor of cupcake (chocolate) , they delivered them for a minimal fee and added a birthday card.
My husband is a picky eater and he LOVED the cupcakes. This made me look like a super wife! Thank you Emily and The Cake Box for saving the day!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Leah O.Toronto, ON9751Jul 28, 2020
We ordered two batches of cupcakes and a cake from the Cake Box. All items were gluten and dairy free, and all I can say is WOW!!!!!!! We are from Toronto where there are tons of gluten free options, but nothing comes close to the Cake Box products. The desserts were delicious (I can't believe the icing is dairy free), not crumbly (a common problem with gluten free cakes) and simply gorgeous. I haven't had a gluten free "confetti" cake since I was a child - this brought back wonderful memories.

Not sure why The Cake Box hasn't gotten a higher rating yet, but I think their treats are spectacular. They always have a great selection of cupcake flavours, their cakes are scrumptious, and the buttercream icing on their is so rich, smooth, and creamy.
I also tried a cake pop this time, but was disappointed to taste barely any mint flavour in my chocolate mint pop.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Milly L.Richmond Hill, ON214791001Apr 26, 2011
at first i was going to give 2 stars only because when i tried the red velvet cupcake, it didn't taste anything special. I've tasted better red velvet cakes and there was too much cream cheese for my liking. Also, as a cupcake specialty store, i felt their cupcakes were a bit small and didn't look or taste much of quality. However, I gave it 3 stars because when I took a bite of my friend's double mint chocolate cupcake, the mint flavour was very well mixed with the chocolate in the cake which was pretty good. Also, their setting was nicely designed and decorated too.

Never again will I set foot in The Cake Box. To echo another review of this business, the customer service is absolutely abominable! Since The Cake Box opened it has been a great place to pick up a quick treat, however over time, the service has gotten worse and worse.
The staff are snotty and rude and Yvonne stands behind their behaviour. I made the fatal mistake of calling four weeks ahead to book a cake order and I was told that I had to understand that they were far too busy to take my order, unless of course I was prepared to pay $350 for a cake to serve 40! That's when I was told that they could have it ready for whenever I wanted as long as I was willing to pay! Really classy attitude on the part of the sales girl!
Perhaps with how busy they have become they care not for repeat business. Enough first timers to keep the store(s) in business for much longer? ...I think not.
Get your heads out of the clouds ladies at the Cake Box. The word is out that you couldn't care less about the quality of your product or your service; more often than not people have recounted similar stories of their discontent to me. They seem to be going elsewhere, and so too will I! I will encourage others to do the same whenever I get the chance.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amy D.Guelph, ON97433525Jan 5, 2010First to Review
If u live in Guelph as I do, there really arent many options for cupcakes shops nearby. So for a decent cupcake u have to drive over to the Cake Box in Kitchener. It is a real standout in the area, there isnt much else to do in the area but go in for a cupcake and a coffee. Cake Box proudly displays a large slection of dummy cakes around their cafe, but are instructed not to touch them. They have a slection of about 10 cupcakes. I have had their Vanilla Raspberry with white chocolate buttercream. It was a real buttercream and it was delicious. I have also had the Rocky Road Cupcake with chocolate buttercream, marshmallow, and nuts it was also good. One of the coolest parts about cake box is the bakery is open concept so you can watch the girls assemble cakes. They also provide cake decorating classes.

Today was my first visit to The Cake Box, and I feel a bit premature giving them a rating after just one visit. I tried the chocolate peanut butter cupcake, and while I really enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter icing, I found the cupcake to be a bit bland. The shop itself was quite cute. I really like the look of all of their cakes, though they seem a bit pricey (the tiny cake in the display was $30, and was maybe only 4-6" round). The cakes are nicely decorated, and if it is true that they have cake decorating classes, I would consider giving them a try.

Yummy cupcakes and beautifully decorated cakes.
I live in kitchener, but work in Toronto - in my opinion these are the best cupcakes in the KW area, however aren't comparable to some of the really good cupcake shops in the GTA. But still a pretty decent cupcake.
The red velvet, and the orange carrot are my favourites. They used to have a vanilla butterscotch cupcake that was awesome, but they don't seem to carry it anymore
Worth checking out if you have a sweet tooth and live in the KW areaHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christine M.Kitchener, ON01Feb 2, 2016
I was disappointed with the size of the cupcakes. I bought a variety of flavours and they tasted very good but on the small size for a boutique bakery. I don't have a problem paying for quality but I remember that the cupcakes were larger. This was my 2nd visit.

I purchased 6 cupcakes and took them home to taste...they were just OK. I wasn't impressed that I was charged HST for items that weren't suppose to be charged HST.
I would have thought with all of they hype about the Cake Box they would have been a little more elaborate.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
