I have gone to this park a lot! Almost all of my friends who take their dogs for walk, love this park!
It's beautiful! The walk is a nice walk and I highly recommend this park! :)Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Phyllis C.Edmonton, AB65425Mar 31, 2023

This place is great because it is so big and people have enough space to be able to walk around. I went on Friday with the doggies and thankfully there was a lot of space. I will say that I didn't expect there to be so many people - so something to be mindful of, although it's not hard to have space.
There is a trail that goes in a circle right around the park, I find that is a great place to start! It's a great place for doggies to come and get some socialization.
They have a treat truck as well that is out for snacks.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Bonnie A.Edmonton, AB1715611161Jul 10, 2017
This is not just a dog park. Sure, there's a large off leash area, but Terwillegar park is also great for a river valley walk, run, cycle, and even cross country skiing. It's also a perfect spot to take your canoe/kayak/paddle board on the river. I love that from this park it's about a 25 min walk across the Terwillegar Foot Bridge and down to the Fort Edmonton Foot Bridge.
Gravel parking lot is annoying. Hopefully the city saved some money in the park budget to pave it :)
Highly recommend! Great starting point for a safe river valley walk/hike.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 30, 2013
This is an excellent dog-park and the one I take my dogs to the most. There is a lot of different terrain and opportunities for your dogs to swim, but do be careful when the river is high as the current can get very strong.
If you follow the loop from the parking lot down to the river and along the bank until you loop all of the way around again I think it is about 3-4Km.
The parking lot can get pretty crowded on nice days. You will come across lots of dog walkers, mountain bikers, and runners/walkers here.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Stephanie D.Dunluce, Edmonton, AB442359Sep 9, 2018
This park is our happy place. We love making the trek over and spend at least an hour and a half to two hours every visit. There's a huge field for running and playing, a river for puppy swims and so many trails to explore and enjoy all surrounded by rivers and ponds.
Remember this is a dog park. Dogs play. Dogs get excited. Dogs poop and people have to pick it up. I hate seeing bad reviews of parks because some owners aren't as good as others.
Park Pros: Piece of heaven in the busy city. So many trails and dogs of every breed. Feels safe. Well kept by city.
Cons: Not much signage so if you're nervous download a map ahead of time or ask people as you go along - everyone is pretty nice. Our dog loves to swim in the pond and only one time did we narrowly escaped a beaver but we've been warned to watch out for them.
If your dog runs away and has poor recall, start with a fenced area park in the city otherwise enjoy letting your bff run wild!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brianne B.Edmonton, AB24226Dec 8, 2017
This used to be my favorite dog park. I went several times a week. But it seems like the amount of ignorant people with no control over their dogs keeps going up.
My dog has been chased into the trees by aggressive dogs on three occasions now this last year, hurting herself pretty badly once. I have got into arguments with owners because their dogs are harassing mine, chasing her and lunging at her and they just laugh like their dog is hilarious scaring the s**t out of my dog. And it's not until I scream at them to call their dog that they actually do anything.
At least once every time I go now (which is rare), I have a dog approach, head down, and then lay on the ground. The owners find this HILARIOUS. They apparently have zero clue that this is a hunting pose and literally the worst way one dog can approach another.
I went to terwillegar at least four times a week for about five years straight and I never had this many issues before. A dog park isn't a place where you just unleash your dogs and let them run amuck. You still need control over them (and RECALL) and "hunting" other dogs is not "playing".
The rare time we go to a park now, we go to Laurier/Buena Vista. It's a shorter walk and the trails suck in comparison but for some reason, the owners and dogs are much better. I'm just not going to risk my dog getting mauled by some dog whose dumb owner knows nothing about training or recognizing a dog's body language...Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Danielle M.Edmonton, AB165215Jan 3, 2019
Super beautiful walk with my pupperino and friends. It's a long trail so we just stopped after 25 minutes and turned back.
It was quite slippery and hilly so you have to watch where you walk or you'll take a tumble. (In winter)
There's a bit of around so if your dog thinks that's a delicacy watch out.
I thoroughly enjoyed the park.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Arc P.Edmonton, AB234505205Aug 27, 2014
I've heard nothing but great things about how this one if the best dog parks in the city. However, did you know it has some pretty wicked mountain biking trails? I've just started to get into biking and my friends took me here to dirty up my new mountain bike.
There are some very cool trails here with a wide range of terrane. The range is from neatly trimmed, clear paths to ones with a plethora of roots on the surface. At times I felt like I was a plinko chip on the Price is Right.
Also there are some very beautiful views of the river here. It provides a wonderful rest opportunity from riding to enjoy the view.
The mosquitos can be crazy here so bathing in off or deep wood is recommended. The reward is, however, a nice and sometimes wild mountain bike trails with some nice views of the river.
Couldn't think of a better place for a first time mountain biking excursion in the city.Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Lana S.Southwest Edmonton, Edmonton, AB02Apr 29, 2019
This park would be amazing if the humans using it would pick up after their dogs, and have the courtesy of putting their dog back on leash if it is not behaving friendly. A crouching/pouncing dog is NOT playing. Off leash does not mean NO leash.
The parking lot does get re-gravelled occasionally, but a paved lot would be an improvement, as would a park officer/attendant.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
