7 years later and Taqueria La Fogata is still going strong! Still one of our north side favorites! And they deliver - fast! Cecina, bistec, & carnitas are our go-to tacos. Best Cecina hands down. I've also been loving their picadillo sopes and enchiladas suiza. Check em out, you won't regret it.

And they are as good as the tacos back home in So California. Perfect location for picking up dinner on my drive home from the Kennedy. The temps are warming up and the picnic tables are now out front too.

Authentic mexican food for my compas who are looking for authentic mexican food in that area. Had a burrito here and it was really good. Service was great, We ordered through phone and when we got there our order was ready. Hate waiting for food when im hungry so it was a plus when they had our food ready. Although its small, you never really see any authentic taco places that are huge so it adds to the nostalgic atmosphere of a traditional taqueria.

Taqueria La Fogata is located on Montrose just east of Pulaski. Don't blink because you will drive right by it.
I ordered the 3 taco dinner - 2 steak & 1 chorizo taco w/beans & rice for $9.95. The tacos came w/very generous portions of meat in the tacos w/double shell corn tortilla. I got one chorizo taco, the chorizo was very lean with no grease, but it was too salty. The order also came w/2 steak tacos which also had a very generous portion of steak. I liked this better then the chorizo taco. As usual the meal came w/beans & rice. The rice was a little bland, but I enjoyed the beans. (Uhhh my poor wife).
There were 2 salsas, 1 red & 1 green. The red salsa was made with red chili Arbol peppers. I enjoyed this much more then the green salsa. The Chili de Arbol peppers had more flavor and had a bit of a kick. Between my chips and the food I used up most of the bottle. The woman working said the green salsa was made w/jalapeños, but I didn't taste any heat. They have a nice menu selection so I will be back. Maybe the chili rellenos diner next timeHelpful 9Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Dec 5, 2017
100% the best al pastor anything I've had in my life. It's juicy and full of pineapple with generous cilantro and onion--and delicious green sauce!
I've gotten the pollo (dry), asada (eh, but my bf loves it), and piña coladas (non-alcoholic, but great once you add your own at home!).
The service is suuuuuper slow though, and not very personable in any language. Not rude, but we've gotten food there 2-6 times a month (we didn't have a kitchen for awhile! don't judge!) for the last five months, and there is zero recognition or friendliness. Not rude though. It also takes forever for them to get food ready.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Steven K.Chicago, United States09Mar 26, 2022

I have been a frequent and a local customer for many years. I have ordered enchiladas and was given salsa with it. I asked the lady if she could give me a handful amount of chips ... like literally a total 5 of them just for the taste with salsa and she declined. She urged me to buy a whole bag which I know most would end up in a garbage.
She sounded very condescending and rude. I tried reasoning with her if I were to stay and eat I'd be given the chips for free but since it's a pick up order I needed to pay. She would not budge on a chips and hence I refused the whole order all together which she happily returned the money and dumped the enchilada dish in a garbage or recycled...before giving me 5 chips. I spoke with an owner who ensured me he would make it right by me. When I got there it was like talking to a wall... and told me I came 1 day too late. I'd never again support this greedy business again who treats his loyal customers this way... I spent roughly $300 a month on this place usually on orders that come with chips... What a surprise that was... The girl was so argumentative and the owners not addressing the issue besides his promise made them lose my business forever.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Jun 23, 2016
Recently I ordered a taco dinner to go from Taqueria La Fogata, located in what looks like a little house on Montrose and one block east of Pulaski. I've passed this place many a time because it always looked dead from the outside, but on this particular day there were several peeps dining in at the window counters. They also have some outdoor tables, but it always seems too hot or too cold to dine al fresco on the Northwest Side.
My meal was served to me with minimal wait time. I opted for chorizo as the taco filling, and the three tacos were generously portioned with chorizo, plus cilantro and onion. Often chorizo is greasy but very flavorful. The chorizo chunks in these tacos were not greasy, but needed a lot of help from the salsa to add some flavor. The taco dinner came with rice and beans, both a bit better than average. So this was a good and filling taco meal, though not the most memorable tacos in the 'hood.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 11Oh no 0 - L H.Princeton, United States74565670Jul 27, 2019
Order at the counter, pay, they'll bring you chips & 2 salsas, then your food.
The lengua was surprisingly flavorless, but perfectly tender.
The steak/chorizo taco was really salty & greasier than I'm used to.
The chipotle salsa is spicy, bursting with heat and flavor. The tomatillo sauce, bland. The onions on the tacos were also bland.
$6.35 for 2 tacos & free chips. Only bottled water and sugary drinks. Tortillas a bit thick. I really hope these aren't the only tacos I get on my visit to Chicago. :(Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stephanie C.Chicago, United States412160Apr 3, 2020
Picked up the chorizo con juevos breakfast. Definitely hit the spot and had leftovers. Meal less than $10 and ready on time!
