I have tried almost every sushi place in the GTA and well yes this is one of the most expensive places I've been to. It's also the best.
If you have some extra coin to spend on some premium food, especially if your sushi fan, this is the place to be.
Other sushi places don't taste the same anymore the quality doesn't compare to this place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Owain Y.Oakville, ON241117Jan 27, 2024Updated review
My wife took me to Sushi Masayuki for lunch for my 46th birthday. We've been here numerous times for dinner since they opened, but this was the first time for lunch. For some additional context, my wife is Japanese, and having been to Japan numerous times over the years, it's hard not to compare the quality of fresh fish to what we have available here. This is one of the reasons why we've kept coming back to this restaurant, because it's on par with what you would get at an excellent sushi restaurant in Japan.
For our meal, we both ordered the Masayuki Tasting Sushi Lunch. The meal started off with 3 types of tempura (shrimp, okura and pumpkin), along with an egg with eel in the middle called "umaki". There was also braised eggplant in a dashi broth. Each of these dishes were exceptional quality. I especially love the braised eggplant since we've had this as an appetizer on previous visits.Â
The second dish we had was octopus with "yuzu kosho", which is a paste made from chili peppers, yuzu peel and salt. We were also served sashimi pieces which included greater amberjack and tuna. The sashimi essentially melts in your mouth and you can taste the quality of fish since the flavours are prominent. In addition to the fish, the dish was presented with shiso (perilla leaf), wakame, radish, shaved daikon, and shaved Indian carrot as part of the presentation. Â
The third dish was a set of nigiri, which was served one at a time as you eat them. This dish contained sea bass, salmon, tuna, scallop, Japanese Spanish mackerel, and amberjack. As was with the sashimi, you can tell the fish is high quality since each piece is buttery and melts in your mouth. This was also the first time I've had Japanese Spanish mackerel, and it was absolutely delicious. The dish was also served with a side of miso soup which has a very nice flavour while not being overly strong.Â
The fourth dish in the set were rolls which consisted of tuna with pickled radish. My wife explained that tuna and pickled radish (torotaku) are put together in a way to melt the fish in your mouth, plus provide the crunch with the radish. When we were speaking with Chef Masayuki, he mentioned that umaki and torotaku were unique to this particular lunch set, and not something you'd see on a regular menu.
Finally, for dessert, we were served green tea ice cream with a sesame senbei on top, along with green tea cheese cake. Both the ice cream and cheese cake were amazing. Neither of them had a lingering aftertaste like you'd get with a cheaper quality of green tea. This is something I'm extremely picky about, and was extremely satisfied with. When speaking with our waitress, she mentioned that both the sesame senbei and green tea cheese cake are made in-house - which you can absolutely tell due to the quality and overall flavour.Â
As with previous visits, we walked away quite full and extremely satisfied with our meal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Apr 30, 2016Previous review4th time that my wife and I have had dinner here, and it gets better and better each time. Appetizer started off with nasu-nibitashi, followed with a miso soup that was made with some wonderful dashi. For our mains, we had the nami sushi and the nami sashimi. All the fish was wonderfully presented, and the taste was incredible as always. Hands down, Sushi Masayuki had gotta be the best place for authentic sushi in the GTA. Definitely will be coming back for round 5 again soon :)
Nov 1, 2015Previous reviewSushi Masayuki is a newly opened restaurant in Burlington. We came here for my wife's birthday on a recommendation from a friend of ours. My wife is Japanese born, so she's been less than impressed with many of the sushi establishments in the GTA... Until today. We started off with several different appetisers which included the chicken karaage and tempura set. Both were deep fried lighty and not overly greasy which instantly surprised us. When we were presented with the sushi and sashimi plates, we were blown away with how they tasted 1:1 on what you'd get in Japan. There's very few establishments in the GTA that are like this, and Sushi Masayuki has proven itself to be one of them. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a true authentic Japanese taste without having to take a flight to Japan to get it.

Amazing food, authentic ambience, highly recommend.
Came here for dinner with family. It was a Wednesday at 8:30 and they still sat us. There was no one in the restaurant so we had it all to ourselves.
Sushi was incredibly fresh with warm sushi rice and crisp seaweed. All the food was perfectly cooked to order. I would go into each dish but honesty the food all speaks for itself.
One thing I will say is from what I could see the menu is all seasonal and changes frequently.
Another note is the sushi is by the piece so you could have some sticker shock. Keep that in mind when you order anything.
I do highly recommend the miso cod, spider roll, any of the sushi, and the green dragon roll.
Location is in a strip mall, ample parking. The place is great for a date, great for a casual meal, and especially great if you like fantastic food!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 6, 2021
This place is so good!
This is an authentic Japanese restaurant with real, top tier Japanese sushi chefs so expect to pay a bit extra for the quality.
I haven't tried everything on their menu but the few things I did try were amazing. They serve some authentic Japanese dishes and of course the sushi here is exquisite and very fresh. If you're craving Dynamite or Spider rolls go elsewhere. Though they do serve sushi rolls here you are better off trying their other menu choices.
My latest visit was during the Covid pandemic so I had to order take out. I arrived and was greeted immediately. The waitress took my order, and after I paid she told me I can wait in my vehicle and she would bring it out to me.
Maybe 5 mins later she very warmly gave me my food and thanked me.
Food was still amazing and delicious when I got home.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 1 - Hamdi A.Oakville, ON15Mar 17, 2023

Food was tasty, pricey, portions very small and ambience was upscale. Service was good. The menu was very limited. In general over priced for what you get. Perhaps a date place to make a first good impression. But for someone that has dined at sushi venues, including nobu in Tokyo, not worth it.

Best/most authentic sushi I've experienced outside of Japan.

We had to wait for 1hr 30min to have our meal. Our order was simple, sashimi plate and sushi plate. We didn't order a course meal since we wanted sashimi which wasn't in a course meal. When our waiting time is around 45min, a server brought us a small snack with apologies, so we continued waiting thinking that they probably got too many orders at once. All other tables got their orders (seemed most of them had sukiyaki course) appetizers and sukiyaki, and waiting for their sushi, while we are patiently waiting for our sashimi & sushi which is relatively simple (sashimi is just a cut raw fish). When the waiting time is 1hr 30min, sushi plates came out to be served to the tables. We thought our meal finally came, but they were all served to other tables. The table next to us came in later than us, and both our tables ordered around the same time, so we were thinking that when sushi plate comes out, we will be served before them for sure... but still we were the very last one to be served. At this point our patience was over, my husband asked the server to explain why this happened. She said that it is because there is only one sushi chef, and kitchen menu (menu other than sushi) comes from the back kitchen which is faster, also they got a lot of sushi roll which made other orders backed up. Well, that doesn't explain this at all. You can still change the order whose sushi should be made to serve the meals to all the tables in a balanced order, or tell the customer about your kitchen's situation (sushi takes xxmin right now) etc. plus again, sashimi is just cut raw fish. We don't understand why it took 1hr 30min to come out. I would say it is a poor service and management not caring about customer's side. Not all the customer order kitchen menu, and no one expect waiting for 1hr 30min to eat at a restaurant with this service especially at this price range.
As for the food itself, it is okay. 3 pieces of sushi in my plate had too much wasabi... I wouldn't spend this much money for this quality again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Norm A.New York, United States048Mar 5, 2023
Was traveling through town and wanted to stop for quick meal. Pompous employee said they couldn't accommodate me as they needed a reservation. This is not New York City, London, Paris or some other big city restaurant where reservations are set months in advance. But the way they acted was very inhospitable. Glad I am spending my business expenses elsewhere.

I am always looking for authentic Japanese restaurants and Sushi Masayuki is as good as it goes in GTA West.
Pro-Tip: Do request to be seated at the Sushi Bar when making a reservation. Sushi Bar area seems to be reserved for their loyal customers.
Most items are seasonal but you can assure their freshness. You will be paying a premium for the privileges but well worth it if that's what you looking for.
Service is polite and courtesy. Just like the authentic Japanese hospitality.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0
