Mehmet Cem E.Manhattan, New York, United States015Mar 27, 2024I was looking for an under $200 Omakase place for my visit to NYC with my brother and we decided to go to Sushi Jin.
The restaurant is a cute tiny place with only around 10-12 sushi bar seats and a couple of tables. The service is great, very intimate and personal service without any long wait times.
This food was amazing. One of the best meals, not just Omakase, I've had in NYC. Everything was super fresh and delicious. And it is not just the fish nigiri that was delicious, the oyster and scallops were some of the best I've eaten. I've been to places like NOZ and Nakazawa in NYC and I thought this was better than both.
My only negative comment would be about the pacing of the dishes, I think they could have waited just a little bit more between dishes, it was a little too quick for me but it wasn't a big deal.
At the $145 price point this place is a damn steal, and well worth the trip to the UES if you want an amazing omakase experience

Sushi Jin has always exceeded expectations and I hope they will stay in the neighborhood. We heard that the lease is up in February 2024, and they will no longer be there. We are praying they will continue to stay in the upper east side! Please go and support this excellent omakase restaurant !

Jan 14, 2021Previous reviewWow! Simply amazing omakase! So fresh and beautifully done (takeout Covid style). Despite getting takeout we still have a wonderful experience! We ordered directly and picked up our dinner and was so pleasantly surprised by how perfect our bento box was packed. Highly recommend and can't want to order again and hopefully visit once Covid-permits!

The presentation is beautiful and the food was delicious. The service was top notch with attentive and friendly staff and sushi chefs. Can't wait to come back again!
Mar 11, 2023Previous reviewI rarely rate my restaurant visits, but I had an amazing time here and wanted to share! Sushi Jin has the freshest sushi I've ever had. I recommend making a reservation to make sure the restaurant can accommodate you as they have set seating times. The staff are friendly and attentive and I left feeling completely full and satisfied with my decision to visit. I will definitely make sure to suggest this place to friends and family and plan to return!

There's limited seats with 12-14 seats at the bar and a small side table that probably fits 4 people, so call them in advance to make a reservation. I went with a group of friends and the overall experience was remarkable. I made a reservation 2 days in advance and was seated relatively promptly. I also asked if I can book the entire place for a larger group of people, and I was told that is possible but at a later seating of 8/8.30pm, which I think is not bad.
Food was great: everything was fresh and there were so many pieces I lost count. We had 3 different nigiris with uni, which I think is a lot more generous than other omakase places. However, the unis were from Maine and not Hokkaido (IMHO the gold standard for uni) because it was a public holiday in Japan. Nevertheless, I loved every piece served that night and we also added seared wagyu A5 beef and fried baby crabs which were delicious.
I would definitely return to Sushi Jin.

Went for dinner on 4/30 for 7pm, we arrived on time and to our surprise there was no wait, usually even with a reservation you have to wait. As usual we sat at the bar and watch chef execute his omakase menu $145 per person, right before us. My wife and I make it a point to only have Sushi here as anything else would be a total disappointment.

All i can say is that chef has definitely been working hard during the pandemic to create a new menu that brings out new flavors and new techniques. He never ceases to amaze me with his knife skills, its hypnotic to watch him slice each piece of fish for each course, really its mind boggling. The skills, his knife is so sharp it effortlessly slices fish like butter, wow mind blowing. We started dinner by sitting at the bar right in front of chef. Our first course was a three way tasting of komumato oysters, uni and roasted eggplant and his version of tuna tartar with a raw qual egg. Let me just say, prepare your taste buds because you are about to embark on a flavor journey. I suggest you start with the eggplant, nice sweet roasted Japanese eggplant, slightly sweet and perfectly roasted. Then have the tuna tartare with the quail egg. Be sure to mix the tuna, the quail eggs and scallions, its buttery, dreamy and delicious on the palate. After that threesome, its all fair game. We had toro, spanish lean tuna, kumimoto oyster, red snapper, uni, amber jack, and other i cannot recall. But what I can say is that the menu chef has composed for the Omakase is mind blowing. The entire meal was more like a symphony of fish courses from the light to the fatties and it was well worth its price in gold.
We also paired our dinner with a bottle of the pinot grigio which was light and medium dry and really paired well with all of the courses. For dessert we had a home made mochi with fresh strawberry and red bean, but if you dont pick up the notes of the red bean you would think it's chocolate. Overall dinner was excellent, service was outstanding and the wine menu had a lot of variety and not expensive at all.
I cannot wait to go back to have another omakase. Chef, thank you for your outstanding menu, you really take the time to entertain your audience and watching you work is so hypnotic. Your amazing knife skills create masterful art, that is almost difficult to digest but. However we sit back and just wait for each masterful bite. Most amazing experience!Sep 20, 2019Previous reviewI have been waiting for this moment for over a year and a half. Chef Tachikawa has now re opened in manhattan in the upper east side. This is Ginpachi 2.0 ; an outstanding showman ship, his culinary skills are really amazing. This menu starts at $95 for the basic omakase, the deluxe omakase is $125 and then there is the ultimate omakase for $165. I will meet you half way and go for the deluxe @ $125 . You get 15 pieces of sushi crafted at the sushi bar by the head chef. What makes this different is that he treats his sushi menu like a wine menu. He starts you off with the lighter choices, then he goes for the flavor and eventually you end up with the fatty fish. Truly remarkable, let alone the fact that you have a perfect seat anywhere along the bar to watch and see what he does for his audience. I can tell you this is worth the price; the decor; ambiance his staff is very attentive. By the way at some point you will see that he comes out with a torch; to quickly roast small items or even fish and that was a show on it self. Over all we had an amazing time, it was better then what we had in mind. The wine selections provide enough variety to pick and choose. I have to be honest his omakase is of such high quality; that i never asked for soy sauce. On the other hand the pickled ginger was so sweet snd fresh, that i ate it even before my appetizer was out.
217567Oct 7, 2022This place is basically undiscovered greatness. While the $145 obligatory omakase might seem a bit punchy, one hardly looks for a bargain when dealing with the Picasso of Sushi. The range of tastes and textures was a tour de force for the senses. Only way to do this is at the sushi bar where you can watch the master and apprentice at work. They answered questions, taught us new things, and left a strong impression of pure perfection of the craft. Bravo.

This is an incredible quality for the price for omakase in the city, and every time is excellent. In the past we got add ons like uni from Maine () and today topped everything off with sujiko (fresh salmon roe). I think our favorite tonight was the chutoro (medium fatty tuna) or the scallop.
Today's excuse was a birthday celebration, but it doesn't take much of an excuse to come by sushi Jin.
