Well this was an exercise in frustration. I've been to this restaurant a number of times over the past few years and we decided to return on a recent arrival to Provincetown. The food is fairly good here. We had a delicious order of ham and cheese croquettes and a lovely pizza. The baked baguette was serviceable with a nice whipped herbed ricotta and honey.
The problem we had was not with the food. Rather, the service was extremely problematic to put it mildly. The issue centered on an apparently unadvertised policy the restaurant has that if you want to order more food this is strictly prohibited (except for dessert and beverages). Just 45 minutes into the meal we were told by our server that we couldn't order more food and that this should have been explained to us. The server went back to speak to the manager and then came back and said we could order more food but that we needed to understand in the future this would not be permitted. We had to order everything upfront, no exceptions and don't forget! We paid the bill and walked out.
I think I should just let this story speak for itself. This is the first time I've ever experienced something like this at a restaurant and hope that it is not a new COVID era policy that other restaurants would feel the need to adopt. It's an extraordinarily patronizing "policy" and the server carried it out with an astonishing lack of self-awareness. In the end this creates an experience for diners that negates all of the wonderful and delightful reasons we like to dine out.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Brian,
We're glad you enjoyed your food and are sorry the service was not what you expected. It's pretty standard for restaurants to ask guests to place their order all at once. Also, I was personally upset to learn how rude your party was to our staff. They work hard to provide each guest with a great experience. They don't deserve to be mistreated.

Outstanding.
Finally made it here yesterday during a lovely happy hour on the patio. Oysters are one dollar each between 4 and 6 PM. Lots of interesting cocktail choices along with wine, beers and locally made ciders.
I originally wanted the "bartenders choice" cocktail but it was not available. So, I went with a traditional Manhattan. It was perfect and quite strong. I couldn't order another one because I would have fallen off of my chair, taken a nap in the back or, perhaps, just died on the spot. I'm such a lightweight.
We ordered a dozen oysters, shrimp ceviche and a stuffed clam. The stuffed clam was ordered a bit later since we observed said clam delivery to other tables (and it looked amazing!!). We were warned that it takes a little bit of time to prepare (it does), but we just wanted to sit and relax on the patio.
Everything we ate was outstanding. I wish I had more room in my gullet to order more. There were several other delectable options on the menu that were very appealing.
The inside of the restaurant is really, really nice: slightly quirky and very cool decor...but the (front) outside patio was where we wanted to hang. Great people-watching spot; especially during a busier week in the summer.
Excellent quality food. Terrific service. I will be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Herbert F.Joshua Tree, United States01May 2, 2023
Lovely; however, perhaps no pizza should be burdened by molè, hominy, and shreds of chicken, no matter how well-intentioned the recipe is -- pizza is a resolved issue. Wolfgang Puck went far enough with caviar, smoked salmon and creme freche. That said, good drinks (ice cold martini) and kind people. Humus is good, atmosphere convivial, lighting pleasing.

I really loved this restaurant far more than I expected. The cocktail menu is very solid (the First Spaniel is dangerously tasty, as is the Eventide), and will run you $13-15 per drink. And the "tapas" style ordering allows you to try a variety of dishes.
We were 2 women and ordered 4 things total: the croquettes, the torn burrata, the duck confit pasta, and the short rib lentil risotto. Everything was exceptional, with the burrata and the pickled peaches really resonating for me. The croquettes were perfectly fried and buttery without being overwhelming, somehow. And the short rib just disintegrated under my fork, it was so tender. The confit pasta was interesting--I think they used curry in the sauce, which lent itself to a very academic, tasty-but-unexpected experience.
Total came out to $90 per person after tax and tip, including the 4 entrees and the 3 drinks. Service is super friendly--despite the fact that we arrived 25 minutes early for our reservation, they scrounged us a seat at the bar to get a drink while we waited for our table. And ambiance is top notch!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Food: inventive, creative, beautifully presented and damn good.
Service: awesome, attentive, multiple servers are quick to clear a dish, bring fresh plates, chase you into the street to return your forgotten sunglasses. We sat at the bar and our bartenders name was Mikey. Great guy, very knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, friendly, can shake a cocktail like no other and just adorable.
We will definitely return. I highly recommend.
Reservations go quickly, plan ahead! (Though bar and some patio seating available upon walk in). But there was a line at the door 15 mins before opening (including me). Its that good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 27, 2018
Love the food and the drinks. One of the best places for a special night out in Provincetown.
The drinks are just well thought out and balanced. However the night we had three cocktails...each was ever so slightly different. I imagine bartender #1 went home for the night and left us with a different person. However, the slight inconsistency was not a deal breaker, just noticeable.
The menu contains some creativity and ingredients seem fresh. My only gripe is the portions versus cost. Order the potatoes bravas as an appetizer and prepare to feel a little more than mildly disappointed. The portion sizes resemble more of what you might expect at a tasting and not particularly substantial even as an appetizer.
Especially if you do the math. Take the cost of half a potato, sprinkle some key seasonings (marginal cost), the electricity and labor for chopping about 7 or so cubes and place on a small plate. Ok. How much would you think that is worth? Ok. Close your eyes, don't look at the menu prices.
Just enjoy the late night ambiance, the taste of what is on offered, and the crazy hilarious wallpaper in the bathrooms.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 25, 2018
This restaurant offers an energetic vibe, while offering a comfortable historic nautical ambiance. The food is inventive, truly unique and wonderfully executed with many options. The small plate offerings presents a perfect opportunity to share and develop your own tasting menu The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining options. We went multiple times and both were equally pleasant.
Back to the food...we tried many items from the clam dip, shrimp ceviche, roasted eggplant, Ham & Cheese croquets, Burrata w/Watermelon and various pizzas. EVERYTHING was spectacular, unique and inventive. My one caution..if you are a "meat and potatoes" type eater this place may not be for you but for the "foodies" it is paradise.
Lastly it was apparent that the alcoholic beverage were created by a talented and educated mixologist. We tried too many (no driving involved) to note and they were all extraordinary and utilized exotic ingredients. We look forward to going back for another great dining experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Murrisa G.Houston, United States4105205May 23, 2022
Food and service was impeccable! I had the mezcal flight and ordered a pink grapefruit soda to enjoy between sips- perfect way to cleanse your pallet. Burrata salad was the perfect cold temperature and creamy consistency over pesto and peaches. The fried Cod was lightly battered and perfectly seasoned with a slightly sweet cold tomato and onion medley...absolutely perfect! A must try place while you are in Provincetown!

Absolutely horrible experience. I've eaten here five times in the last few years and each time it has gotten worse. I keep hoping the last time was a "fluke". Nope. The menu is over complicated, overly seasoned and the portions are not even shareable despite their description. Three of us walked in to be seated at a coffee table. We couldn't even eat comfortably because we had to hunch over the coffee table to dine. If you don't have room in your restaurant don't take the reservation. Three of us end up spending $330 on food and drinks and left hungry. I'm literally following it up with two slices of pizza which are better than what I purchased. A pasta dish was served with spicy sausage that made it unpalatable. The short ribs were served on a " risotto" made of lentils that was just nasty. The "grilled" octopus was so charred I couldn't even eat it. The pizza was covered in an oil slick so we packaged it up to dry with paper towels later. $330 for three people and I think I had 9 ounces of food. Complete waste of time and money. There are a dozen other restaurants that you would be better served at and for less money and receive better service and food. Check out their "not recommended" reviews for a true vision . My guess is they subscribe to Yelp so as to hide those reviews. Others are definitely from friends of the owners and employees.
Oh and you can ignore the owners 1st response and now his second response calling me "unhinged". He couldn't find fault with the facts so now it becomes an attack. He is basically berating the patron rather than owning up to the issues just like his manager did when I did try to complain and was told we "were lucky to have been seated at all". I didn't make the reservation, which was made earlier so we didn't just " come in". That was his friend who he then had post a review to counter mine.
I wish I had taken photos of the food before we mostly abandoned it. If two people cannot eat from a "shared" bowl, it is not shareable.
Other comments from my table about the food:
Grilled Octopus: "Tastes really burnt"
The "divine" ham and cheese croquettes: "Is there even ham in these? I taste a faint flavor of ham. They taste like Trader Joe's".
The risotto: "What is this texture? Doesn't taste at all like risotto. That's cause it's lentils and not rice but yeah, it's off."
Garlic Shrimp: "Is this all the bread you get?. I like Ross's so much better! How do you share this?"
Try it. Go in. Get one item to start and see if it is small, overpriced and not at all tasty.
And as for costs: First of all, who said 2 ounces? BUT..... I had to go home and make an ACTUAL short rib meal to get rid of this experience. Short ribs are $9.99 a pound. With carrots , onions and demi glace, to prepare the whole meal cost me $18. It fed THREE easily. And it was 5 times the size of what we were served.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
