We recently hired Prorise to paint our three-bedroom townhome. The estimator did a good job documenting everything and providing an accurate quote. The painters were friendly, and the quality of the job was satisfactory. They missed a few areas but painted them after I pointed them out during the walk-through.
Here is where they missed the mark: First, the painters washed their putty knives in a washroom sink. When the drywall putty dried and hardened into small chunks, they clogged the sink.
Second, when they leave, they are supposed to provide extra paint for touch-ups, per the contract. Very little paint was left after the job, so the painter promised to return the next day with more paint. Of course, that did not happen. We texted her multiple times, and we received no response. Eventually, the company emailed us for the remaining balance, and we told them we would only pay once we received the promised bucket of paint. Surprise, the paint was delivered to us promptly.
I advise withholding any money until you are 100% satisfied and are sure you never have to deal with them.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura W.North Vancouver, BC01Sep 26, 2023
I had prorise paint the outside of my house this past summer (2023). There was a group of painters and the job was completed quickly. Only the foreman spoke English, so when he left the site we were unable to communicate with the painters. Unfortunately some paint bubbled and had to be scrapped off and repainted. The clean up was poorly done. recently I received a call from Alvin who wanted to do an inspection to make sure the job was to their high standards. I have called Alvin back 3 times (over three weeks) with no response. seems like they only call you back if you want an estimate. My paint has bubbled and cracked and I've noticed paper and tape left up on my gutters. Still waiting for a call back.

Joe and Prorise Painting has done a great job painting our home AND our office. Pricing was also competitive with other painting companies who offer upfront pricing, colour consultation and are insured and bonded. Everything went well and I knew what to expect after the initial consultation. Because of the weather, we had to push the job by a couple of days, but at least I had more time to move the furniture out of the way.

My biggest issue was with how I was quoted. I specifically asked for the bedrooms, living + dining rooms and kitchen to be painted.
On the last day, I find out the window trims were not included in the quote. When I brought this up, Joseph kept pointing out that it wasn't in my contract and was asking for another $1900 extra to do them.
My biggest disappointment is that I felt I was not advised properly. It was never brought up as a point of consideration for me when we negotiated the work. I have never hired painters before and as a lay person, was relying on his professional advice.
I wasn't even given the opportunity to consider whether I wanted those done or not. Also, at the end of the day, he came off as defensive and was not apologetic at all.
Will not recommend for this reason.
Update in response to owner's comment:
Hi Joseph. I almost believed your apology until you and Pablo kept texting me about updating my review since you guys apologized and I accepted.
I said I would but was really sick at the moment and would appreciate some time to get better.
1. You already apologized to me for not bringing up the window casings and giving me the option to consider whether I wanted this additional work as you did with the ceiling even though it was out of range of the initial budget we talked about. I never demanded the window casings be free of charge. I can post all our text messages here where my point to you was that I was disappointed because I expected you to bring it up if it were a separate item as you are the professional and I was relying on your expertise.
2. You also already apologized to me about your misunderstanding of what Pablo had told you about the review. I have it on record that he apologized to me as I NEVER SAID I was going to write a bad review if you didn't paint my window casings for free. This is very insulting - something you also already apologized for. What I, in fact, asked Pablo for was someone else in the company I can speak with as I feel my feedback was not being heard by you or him. He said there was no one else, so I said, ok then I will have to express it in my review.
3. If you post my handwritten feedback I wrote after the service, you will see that I had the same feedback about you. I had minor feedback about the paint job itself - I just mentioned there were still lines that I wasn't completely satisfied with, but were fine at the end.
I am really disappointed in you as this has just shown me how insincere you were in your apologies and how you've lied on a couple of points here. If you want to debate these, happy to produce records of our conversation to post here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi May,
When we first met for our initial meeting, we completed a thorough walkthrough together to identify all areas that required painting. You specifically told me you were on a strict budget so I customized a quote based on your needs and budget requirements to maximize your investment and to stay within costs. We both agreed to only paint the walls, hand railings and these specific trim areas - doors, door casings, and baseboards. I provided a specific itemized pricing breakdown for each item on the contract for your reference prior to you signing the contract so that you were well aware of all aspects of the project and the steps we have taken to ensure that you stay close within your budget.
Before the project started, you contacted me and asked me to add the ceilings in some areas. We agreed on the additional pricing and added this extra item into the scope of work. At no point did you mention that you wanted to add the window casings and sills.
Before the project was complete, you contacted me stating you were unhappy because you thought EVERYTHING was included in your contract including window casings and sills and wanted them painted when it was specifically indicated on your contract that these items are excluded. This could not have been true, as you had contacted me to add the ceilings as an additional item. Therefore, you were aware that not everything was included. I explained to you that window casings were not included, as this item was not specified nor accounted for in our contract to help you to stay within your budget. I explained very clearly to you that this would be an extra cost item just like the ceilings. To prepare and to paint all window casings would take an additional 32 hours of labour plus material costs, and would take multiple days with two painters to complete. You did not want to accept this as an extra item and continued to demand for this item to be completed at no additional cost.
You warned us that you were going to post a negative review because you were unhappy that the window casings were not included even though you were aware that this was an excluded item from the beginning. Because we cannot provide this service for free to you, you went ahead and posted this review when the job was still in progress and the painting team was still working on your project.
Our team has gone above and beyond to help you to ensure that you are happy and even applied a third coat of paint on all of your walls and one window casing at no extra cost. This extra would have been $800 plus 5% GST. Despite our efforts to help you stay within your budget and to offer you extra services at no charge, you are still unhappy about your window casings and sills being excluded that we cannot provide to you free of charge.
After our team painted all the areas outlined in the contract, you completed our sign off form which outlined you are happy with the clean-up and quality of the work.
Prorise’s quotes are very detailed and outlines all aspects of each job including all items and areas that are included and/or excluded along with all surface preparation and painting application procedures. Our quotes are designed to maximize transparency and to minimize the risk of any misunderstanding or communication.
We are truly disappointed by this very unreasonable review after we have demonstrated our utmost efforts to be as transparent, clear, and helpful to you as we can by delivering a project within your budget. It would have also been fairer if you had written a review once the project was completed so you could evaluate the entire experience.
I wish you the best of luck in your future home improvements projects.Oct 11, 2019Previous reviewMy biggest issue was with how I was quoted. I specifically asked for the bedrooms, living + dining rooms and kitchen to be painted.

Joseph,
Do not accuse me of slander or posting false photos. You were not present at the job site and therefore are in no position to say what happened or didn't happen. That is a photo of my ceiling, and the file's properties clearly show what device was used to take the photo, when it was taken, and where it was taken. I posted the photo to make the point that as a customer obtaining 'professional' painting services, we should not have been put in the uncomfortable and frustrating position of telling your painters that a flat ceiling should not appear textured after painting.
A project is not just the end product. It includes the process of getting to that end. The large number of deficiencies we had to point out and have corrected was unacceptable. We had to have your company in three times to get it to an acceptable state.
The hostile manner in which you have replied to my review further illustrates why no one should hire you.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Nancy Cameron,
This is our response to your review concerning your painting project at Unit 203 - 518 W 14th Avenue, Vancouver. I hope each customer can read this in its entirety to fully understand the true outline of events.
Our team is terribly disturbed by your false review with fake and incomplete accusations. All of the photos you uploaded were PRIOR to job completion. During our final walkthrough with you and our team, you were completely satisfied with the work once it was fully completed to your satisfaction after all the touch-ups/deficiencies and you and your husband Paul's concerns were addressed. In any home improvement project, touch-ups almost always take place, and this is indicated in your contract. Everything was addressed in a timely manner. As we do with all of our customers, we specifically mentioned that we would not accept payment from you until you are 100% satisfied with the work. Due to the inconvenience of timing and delay (which happens on occasion due to the nature of the season, industry, and especially backlog from Covid-19), we provided a $200 discount off your bill without you asking for it. You signed off on the Customer Sign-Off Inspection Form on October 2, 2020, and the job was deemed finished after payment was received on October 5, 2020.
This form is presented to ensure that each of our customers is happy and satisfied with the work that is completed by Prorise Painting. This is an additional step that we proudly take to provide our customers with an opportunity to bring forth any final concerns or questions prior to signing off on this final document as it represents a stamp of approval. Again, our company does not accept payment until this form is signed, which demonstrates the customer is happy with the work provided, and only after a thorough final walkthrough is conducted with the Job Supervisor.
Here are some points to address your false statements:
* Joseph did not agree to strip the metal window frames. The scope of work including exclusions is clearly stated in your contract.
* Your floors and furniture were protected with plastic and clean drop sheets. The paint splatter on the floor you have referenced to is dust and was cleaned up right after the photo was taken. This was immediately addressed already.
* The photo you posted is of a TEXTURED ceiling photo and not the ceiling that Prorise painted. Your ceilings were FLAT and we have clear documentation and evidence of your home. This is also in your contract. Why are you posting incorrect photos of your ceiling???
AGAIN, the photos you posted are images of when the job was in progress and the ceiling photos are not what we worked on. Your photos are a poor and misleading representation of the project and are not a fair display of the final results. This is malicious and unfair to us. We are not sure why you have chosen to slander our company after the job has been complete and that we had resolved all issues for you with kindness and patience. We are not sure why you failed to display final photos that accurately represent that the job was completed successfully to a professional standard. We stand by our work and customer service, and are shocked and saddened to receive such a poor recollection of the truth. We took all the necessary steps to ensure that you were happy and satisfied with the final work by presenting opportunities for you to address any outstanding concerns prior to receiving the final payment. We completed your project on budget, to your satisfaction, and we also provided a $200 discount for the scheduling inconvenience.
Your outright false accusations are slanderous and defamatory in nature, falsely criticizing our company and jeopardizing the reputation that all of our team members have worked so hard to build.
JosephNov 11, 2020Previous reviewI cannot recommend Prorise Painting. In fact, I have told many people to never hire these people. Joseph and his team over-promises and under-delivers.
During the discussion of the estimate and scope of work, Joseph said they would send two teams of two to do the work--he sent one team of two. Joseph said they were scheduling about two weeks out--more like five weeks. I specifically said that I wanted the window frames stripped. It was only after they did a cursory job of scraping that Joseph said stripping the frames was not common practice--funny, how he didn't say this while we were discussing the estimate and scope of work.
The worst was the actually painting. I have never seen a worse attempt at painting. There wasn't a single cut that was straight on either our trim or ceiling. They clearly used dirty or cheap rollers as the ceiling had fluff stuck to it and large visible roller lines. It took them three attempts to get the job done to a barely acceptable degree. I signed off on the job simply to get them out of my house.
Prorise promotes themselves as a professional painting company, but professionals cover furniture. Prorise didn't cover all our furniture--my son's bed had dust all over it. Professional bring lights: Prorise didn't bring lights, so at 6:30 on a Friday evening one of the painters was using his cell phone light to see by. Professionals cover the floors in the rooms they're painting: Prorise didn't cover my floors, so there were paint splatters all over my floor. Professionals don't leave open cans of paint directly on a bare floor, which Prorise did. Prorise painted the ceiling after the walls and I'm still finding white ceiling paint splatters on my walls. Professionals treat their clients and their property with respect; Prorise didn't treat my home with respect. - Simon B.Vancouver, BC21315Mar 6, 2017
Painting was professional quality and fast. They cared more about the project than I expected, making suggestions and going the extra mile, and making sure I was totally satisfied at the end. Expensive but worth it.
Knocked a point for pushy salesman and talented but disorganized drywaller who caused a string of mistakes and missed appointments.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Natalie V.Vancouver, BC02110Nov 29, 2016
The main thing I wanted for my home was to refresh a paint job - I wanted my then brown feature wall in my living room painted a nice grey and my light green bedroom painted back to a refreshing white. ProRise Painting and Restoration was able to do all this work for me. I couldn't have been happier with the work. Joseph came to my house to look at what the job entailed and give an estimate. He also was able to suggest some paint colours with the Benjamin Moore Aura line. When the day of the work came, the painter Alvin was professional and polite and got straight to work - what I appreciated was he wasn't coming in and out - all his gear came with him. He removed his shoes and his painting was clean and meticulous. Holes were patched and areas smoothed out.
I had a great experience using ProRise and will definitely use them for future work both inside and outside of my home.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marcey L.Vancouver, BC01Apr 16, 2016
Prorise painting made my home beautiful! I recently bought a Townhouse that required some serious TLC! Specifically, the popcorn/textured ceiling. I knew that repairing it would be a big job and I was really hoping to get it done while I was out of the country. I had got several estimates, but wasn't quite ready to hand over my keys.  Until I decided to get one more quote. That is when I met Joseph. I knew right away that he and his team were the ones for the job, he was the first person to see the potential, as opposed to just the scope of work.  Not to mention that he is incredibly organized and could present liability insurance and everything that would be needed for me to make an informed decision and the documents required by strata. The estimate was comparable to other reputable companies that I had recieved previously.  I was finally ready to hand over my keys.Â
Chivan, Joel and Paolo did a great job.  They helped my home reach its full potential and I got to have a stress free vacation, without living through renos. When I returned there were a couple touch ups that were taken care of right away.
I highly recommend this company without any hesitation.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Irene F.Coquitlam, BC077Oct 1, 2018
I hired Prorise painting for interior painting for my home. Pablo was the painter. He did an excellent job, was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. I have no hesitation in recommending Prorise to anyone wishing do do either interior exterior painting. Their knowledge and expertise is beyond reproach.
