I don't give 5 stars, like, ever.
But the fact that Paper Crane is mere steps from my house feels worthy of the extra star.
This is home to the best Miso Soup I've ever tried. With its tiny enoki mushrooms, I actually look forward to this.
The jalapeño popper things are stuffed with cream cheese and spicy salmon and will change your life.
The special rolls - especially King City, Orange Dragon, and LA BBQ - are family staples.
Best sushi pizza I've ever had - just like the crispy rice/spicy salmon you sell all over TikTok - but better!
The Chicken Katsu dinner has a great Japanese curry sauce.
The best part are the little touches, the right sauces, even the steamed rice are all done so well that it feels special every time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Becky G.Maple, Vaughan, ON1391Dec 31, 2023
We recently went for lunch and I would say that overall the service was good. Unfortunately, the bulgogi bento box lunch was disappointing. The beef bulgogi tasted like it came out a soup stock. Nothing like what I expected and for that I am reducing my rating to 3 stars.
If you go for lunch you will probably get a table but the place is tiny, so dinner may be harder for securing a table.
Also, compared to other places (Kenji) nearby, this place seems pricey. But the rolls are good.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marc N.Brampton, ON094Dec 19, 2022
Always a pleasure eating here. The food is fresh, the atmosphere inviting.
I'm a frequent diner here and will make the drive to King City for it.
Sushi's always fresh with the lobster roll being our fav.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 9 - 2243872816Jun 26, 2018
I made the long trek to King City and was glad! I really liked this place!!
Location:
In the wilds of King City. Just kidding. It looks like it's located on their main street. Very cute.
Parking:
On street parking but it was a sunday evening so it wasn't so busy and didn't have to look anywhere else. I'm sure there's some cute little lot somewhere.
Decor:
Hmmm. how many times can I use the word cute in one review? It's cute. It's in one of those cute old houses that have a front porch. We sat inside
Lots of tables and chairs. Tight but comfortable. Very welcoming and lots of origami birds! :)
Food:
I got the Chicken Katsu. It was served with purple rice. Man, in Markham that stuff would be extra but Not in King - It's posh here. I guess they expect purple rice ( not that I'm complaining it was cooked perfectly!!)
I loved my dish. Others at my table got sushi and they raved to. So yup.
Staff:
I'm not sure how much nicer or friendlier everyone could have been. I'll be back solely because I need more people like that in my life!
So there weren't a lot of tables but man people were in and out all night. They do a HUGE amount of take out business. it felt like I was at THE place to be in King City.
For sure i'm going back. it was a fantastic evening! the food was great, loved the staff and it was so cute!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 2 - 146557535Jul 11, 2017
Two words - Love Boat! Actually, make that 6 words - Love Boat and King City Roll.
Ridiculously friendly service - everyone including the chefs greet you with a cheer when you enter, making you feel like a long-lost family member returning to the fold.
Fantastic sushi, this was my first experience of a "Love Boat", which is (as you might expect) a boat-shaped wooden serving errr... boat ("dish" is too small a word!), laden with a selection of delicious sushi, sashimi etc. You can order various sizes depending on how large your party is.
The King City Roll is a house specialty of deep-fried salmon, cucumber, tobiko and avocado. Just one of several special rolls available - they all looked fantastic.
Washed down with some hot sake, this was an eating experience with good friends that I'll remember for quite some time.Helpful 8Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Eugene G.Vaughan, ON1230874Mar 31, 2021
I've been on a quest to find a good backup for my main sushi place, and I keep coming up empty - unfortunately the Paper Crane is another experience down the drain.
I'm sure they try hard, and on paper many interesting options are offered, but in reality it's all about tons of rice, and upscale pricing.
Definitely not a repeat.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cassandra M.Markham, ON401435Apr 19, 2019
My Husband and I were in King City to see the Princess Margaret lottery home. So before heading home we stop by this small sushi place for a-la-carte sushi.
We were greeted very warmly by all the staff including the chefs. This place is a small and cozy with about 8-9 tables, tucked in the corner is a sushi bar with 3 chefs making sushi away. The interior has some elements of Japanese decor combined with western furnishings. Small, clean, neat cozy sushi bar.
Servers frequently swings by to check on us and fills our tea cups. Excellent service
Salmon Lover: This combo is excellent for those salmon lover that wants to get a taste of sashimi, nigiri and sushi all at once. It consists of 5pcs salmon nigiri, 5 slice of sashimi and 6pc of spicy salmon sushi. The salmon was heavenly buttery, sweet and very fresh. It's good quality grade salmon because I don't get the fishy after taste.
Spicy Double Double Roll: chopped spicy scallop mixed on crunchy batter and avocado wrapped in sushi rice, topped with salmon slices and tobiko. It has just the right of level spiciness, adequate amount of scallop and finish off with a slight of crunch from the fried batter. The teriyaki sauce mixed with the tobiko completes the roll with a tad of sweetness. Perfect scallop and salmon combo.
The whole dining experience reminds me of the time in Yokohoma, Japan. Absolutely authentic Japanese dining!Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Daniel S.Oakville, ON2132Jan 16, 2022
$$ - Cute restaurant, small space but fresh tasty food! Highly recommend the hot dinner plates. Ordered the salmon and it comes on a piping hot cast iron plate with grilled vegetables and a teriyaki glaze, served with miso, salad and rice.

We are lucky to have this gem in the area. My first taste of sushi was in New Zealand 36 years ago and I've never looked back. Paper Crane is a home run each and every time but last night's visit was next level fantastic. As always the place was packed and take out orders were flying out the door. If you want to go, always call ahead to get a table because the restaurant is not large. Staff are all terrific. Friendly attentive service is the norm. Because we come often we decided to try a few items we don't usually order. Have to highlight the Dangerous Roll - carefully kept behind its own fence! Kind of hard to eat but what a fantastic creation - it will now make it onto our regular order rotation for sure.
