Wow been trying to get here for yrs. soooo finally made it to celebrate our 49th Wedding Anniversary! Conveniently located with parking lot right across the street. We came early so no problem being seated in a friendly welcoming dining area; also seating available outside.
Must say ALL our selections as pictured were high quality fresh ingredients, with great presentation & succulent flavors. What a thrill to taste this escargot; impeccable in preparation & flavor. Lucky they had the fresh morels with a divine sauce & pastry. The bouillabaisse broth was the best I've experienced since being in France. I'm a calamari fan & this was properly spiced to my taste & pan fried (not deep fried) to perfection! No doubt we will return to experience other menu offerings.
Wish they had hours of operation & the menu posted online; altho think it may be a changing menu due to availability of fresh ingredients!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Terell W.Lynden, United States488831Sep 3, 2018
Absolutely authentic French cuisine. Be warned, when you first walk into the restaurant it looks worn down and sad. That being said a second glance will lead you to the dessert counter, and you're probably going to stay because the desserts look THAT good. This place is run by a husband and wife duo, the wife is the waitress and the husband is the chef. Be prepared for an experience, a well worth experience. Everything we ate was delicious, from the bread, to the mushrooms, to the calamari and paella. The food was 5/5 for sure. Dessert - imagine being in a bakery in Paris, and that is the level of decadency. We enjoyed 5 desserts for our party 4. The mousse, pecan tart, and crepe brûlée were our favorites. But all were delicious! Highly recommend this place, and it's always nice to patron a small family run business!

After an epic battle for a weekend parking spot, and a frolic on the beach, we were in desperate need for fortification. When my tres chic Maman had previously visited - we had tried Vancouver's Les Faux Bourgeois - and fallen in love. So, with delight we spotted the patio of Le Vol Au Vent.
As we sipped crisp wine (and delicious fruit sodas!) and gazed out at the sailboats drifting by, it was almost hard to remember that Whiterock was not located in Nice.
The menu offers several tempting choices and I would like to return to sample more offerings. I had the crepes with frites and they were quite good. The thing I most enjoyed was the simple salad and vinaigrette accompanying my entree. The seasoning was simple but special! The proprietors are darling and the service is more personal than at most establishments.
The desserts are extraordinary looking. As you will see by the photo, they sell themselves. I don't know if it was due to being satiated by my dinner or just palate preference, but I was not wowed by the deserts. I had the lemon meringue and found the lemon was not very tart and the pastry was lacking compared to my Mother-in-Law's. The coffee on the other hand was worth a return visit alone and this is from someone who is not addicted to the stuff...
This place is definite 'date' and 'show-off-to-guest' material or great for just a drop in. In the words of Ahnuld: "Ull be back".Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Andrew H.Surrey, BC161103Jul 1, 2019

I have been frequenting Vol au Vent for years. The personalized service, impeccable cuisine and French atmosphere that will make you forget you are not in France. Highly recommend this, leave your preconceptions at the door and enjoy.

Unfortunately, this restaurant has closed for good as of February, 2020. Michel and Nana are retiring and the spot will be transformed from a lovely cozy French Restaurant to another Sushi place. Au revoir, my friends! You will be greatly missed here in White Rock!
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 13, 2016Previous reviewThis has become a favorite restaurant for us as a couple and to take another couple to for a treat. Cozy and casual, sometimes a bit too crowded if it is a busy night, but the food has always been wonderful.
We feel that we are almost eating in their kitchen with Nana and Michel. Every dish we have tried has been great.
I can tell that some people will not like the ambiance due to the closeness of the tables to each other and the lack of servers buzzing around you as well as the laid back service and décor... But for us, it works every time.
The menu is limited but there are always fresh special items available in addition to the regular dishes. Lots of dessert options which greet you when you arrive (and I always stop to inspect them all!).
Works for us every time. Call ahead to reserve for dinner as often we have been in the area, stopped in and found there were no available tables. - Riz K.Vancouver, BC7101321Jul 7, 2016
Came here with a party of two just for appies and some drinks we were greeted by the hostess/waitress who sat us on the patio which overlooks the ocean it's a nice patio but white rock definitely has better we ordered the French onion soup and escargot with pomm frites(French fries) the escargot was the best I have ever had it comes in the shell(which I was told was the authentic way) with LOTS of butter, garlic, and herbs with a little bit of bread it was perfect the French onion soup however was ok I wish it had more cheese the fries looked amazing however were not super hot and crispy I think they may have sit for a few minutes before reaching our table
The ambience was ok Its definitely not as high of level as the food that being said it's also a really small restaurant which does feel cozy almost like a cafe in Paris the service was not that great I think it's because it's really busy in summer and there was only one hostess/waitress who I believe is also co the owner along with the chef who I believe to be her husband there was one point I had to wait at least 20 minutes for a beer and there were many times when I couldn't get the waitress's attention I definitely think it would be nice if they were to hire help during these months in order to give us a higher level of attention but I guess the food and location is good is enough of a reason for people to return
Overall I would return I wish we had more time to stay for dinner as the food that was being brought out looked amazing there is also a lot of menu items that are hard to find in Vancouver such as frog legs, duck pate and othersHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Debra T.Seattle, United States14932225Nov 17, 2017
We drove up for a romantic lunch here... Sipped chilled Veuve that paired beautifully with our 3 small plates: Duck Pate, Toasted Goat Cheese over greens, and escargot! The owners are wonderful and their love of food shines thru! We can't wait to come back for restaurant week in January!

Had dinner here tonight and it exceeded our expectations. Really good honest high quality food prepared and cooked with the utmost care; with attention to textures and presentation. The paella we ordered came with more variety of sea food than was advertised and it was excellent. Amazing variety of in house made desserts. The almond tart was superb!! Disregard the slightly dated look of the interior and STAY FOR THE FOOD! Merci
