La Fogata Mexican Restaurant

This is a great "mom and pop" Mexican place in Lynchburg, Va. It's decorated well and has the same type of refrigerator with clear glass doors holding Mexican beverages you'll find in Mexico.

The owner seated me and another group who came in at the same time. Service was good.

The last time I saw this style salsa container was when I lived in Arizona and it held a hot taco sauce. This salsa was very very good and it had a good amount of heat. It wasn't too hot, but probably on the hot side for those on the East coast.

The fajitas didn't come in strips like I'm used to. They were thinly cut slices of bottom round. Good seasoning. The refried beans and Mexican rice were very good.

This is a great place!

Wonderful food, and friendly staff! Late afternoon/early evening is best, as they tend to close early. Will definitely go again.

The lighting was not good and it was not an inviting place. The serving staff was not welcoming and our food was brought by a member of the kitchen and not the waitress. I ordered the chorri pollo and it was not too bad. The chicken had no flavor tho and the rice was very obviously box Mexican rice you can buy at a grocery store. The chips and salsa are good.

Me and my fiancé were looking for somewhere new to try for lunch and, while we love La Carreta, we decided to try La Fogata and see!

The Pro's
- Guacamole was excellent! And the chips were very good.
- My "Hot and Spicy" burrito was quite hot and spicy. It was very good!
The Con's
- My fiancé's chicken burrito, with rice and beans, was "fine." Nothing amazing, but not really bad either. And she's from California, so she knows good Mexican food better than me.
- Our waitress was fine, she got the job done, but she wasn't very welcoming or noticeably kind.
- Immediately, we both felt unwelcome and out of place when we walked in.
- Another woman who worked there came to refill our water and saw me crying from my spicy burrito (I love spicy but I am not made for it haha) and she laughed at me, which would normally be no big deal but it kind of just added to how we already felt out of place.

Overall, our experience wasn't the best. We really just wanted to leave at the end. I don't think we will be coming back but I hope others who go have a better experience!

We LOVE La Fogata! Everything we've tried there is delicious. From the chips and salsa to the margaritas and entrees, this place is the best Mexican food in town. My favorite dish is the cheese enchiladas (the red sauce is very good) and my boyfriend loves to order the hot and spicy burrito or the chimichanga. The family who owns it is so kind and you can't beat the price. We cannot recommend this place enough! Check it out!

Mon and pop's cuisine and service by her dry personality daughter who needs to improve her services. I only order their Machaca which is beef with scramble eggs. The Salsa and chips are the best, I have tried their burritos but it lack of authenticity perhaps is because I know Mexica food very well.

My husband come here at least once every 2 weeks! I don't know why I took so long for the 5-star rating. This place is hands-down the best Mexican restaurant in the area and what I often refer to as Lynchburg's hidden treasure. There are usually only a few tables filled when I'm there, but I can tell the patrons are all regulars, too. I adore how vegetarian friendly they are (vegetarian plate is my go-to), and my meat-lover husband loves everything, too! The staff is phenomenal, always friendly with quick service. Portions are generous and prices are lower compared to many other restaurants in the area. I often have cravings for their Chile releno and their enchiladas (so good). Highly recommend!

Amazing food! I love the Environment and Enchilada Supreme. The Mexican cokes are so delicious!

Let me start this review off by saying we are from California, with that being said we've had some bomb Mexican food. When you first enter this family owned restaurant, it is SO clean. You can tell they take pride in their business. The decor is beautiful, and the wooden tables are beautiful. (The pictures of the black tables and chairs are outdated).

The service was quick, they brought our drinks and brought warm chips ( ) and the best tasting salsa (has a slight kick).

We ordered horchata, and it was phenomenal. (Honestly, I would go just for a to go cup of their horchata! Lol!)

We had 7 people at our table, they managed to bring our food out around the same time so we didn't wait long between each meal arriving. It was all so amazing, I was blown away. The food was rich in flavor and had the taste of authentic Mexican food. We were all tasting one another's entrees and not one of us had food left on our plates. I didn't get a picture of the entree with shrimp, because we ate it too fast! It was cooked to perfection and will be the next thing I order when returning.

We've been here maybe 6 or more times in the last 6 months. Food is excellent and the prices are so so good! You can come here on a budget and spend less than at some fast food places but get Home cooked food - this is our constant "go to" place.
