My wife's side of the family is up in Northern California to celebrate my niece graduation graduating from UCSF School of Pharmacy. This makes 3 out of four family members and relatives that have graduated from UCSF School of Pharmacy. The only one not is my daughter who graduated from Northeastern Bouve School of Pharmacy.
We decided to get together for dinner near our hotel. We've eaten at Hong Kong Ocean Seafood several times. The food was very good. The seven of us to eat there tonight.
All the dishes were very good. The stirred fried Chinese broccoli was the exception. They added sugar to given it a sweetness taste to it. It was not necessary. It made the dish taste a bit weird for me. I didn't expect that.
The service was below average. We ordered extra lettuce for the lettuce wrap. All through the dinner, they never arrived. Yet, they charged us $6.00 when it came to paying the bill. We complained about it. The head waiter took the $6.00 off the bill.

Dimsum with a beautiful view! Prices aren't cheap though, since you are paying for those views.
Seriously, this restaurant has the best views I've seen yet for any Chinese restaurant in the bay. It's located right along the water in Emeryville. I really enjoyed this location because it was nice to go for a walk along the water after stuffing myself :D
I came by for dimsum Saturday morning right at 10:30 when they opened. We had a large group of 9 and were able to try a variety of items from the menu.
You mark what you want from the menu and they'll bring it to you. We tried a variety of items and in general everything was pretty solid. My favorites were the wu gok (fried taro dumplings) and the chang fun with crispy shrimp, but I feel like you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Prices are very expensive here. Even basic dimsum fare like siu mai costs $8.85, and one order of har gow costs $9.90.
Because we had a larger group, that helped even out the costs a bit and our bill came out to $33 pp after tax and tip.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2024
I made a reservation through OpenTable for a party of 6 for a Sunday dinner. The food was mediocre, but the service was awful. When we were trying to order, the server kept talking us out of the items we wanted. He gave his input at least 5 times, telling us that it was too expensive and/or he didn't like it. The food took forever to come out and in the end, they forgot one dish.
The views here are beautiful though, and the dining room filled up very quickly.
We were looking for a venue for a potential wedding reception but given the horrible service, there is no way we would be having it here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 13, 20241 check-in
We were seated quickly, and the availability of parking outside was convenient. The view of San Francisco from the East Bay side was stunning. Among the dishes we tried, the baked pork bun was a standout with its fluffy crust, and the siu mai was delicious. The steamed pork ribs were tender and easily came off the bone, though the sesame balls weren't my favorite. However, the coconut jello with sweet taro paste was a highlight and definitely worth trying. It's worth noting that there's a 16% service fee added to each bill.

I can't say enough about the wonderful solution of dim sum that they offer as well as regular entrées for dinner. In case you don't know it they have full dinners at this restaurant and are equally known for their dim sum served day and night.
The atmosphere is always lively, and the view is $1 million view watching the sunset over San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. There's plenty of help here to make sure that your order gets to you quickly and there's a flurry of activity of other people that are joining you in your epic delights .Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 1Nov 8, 2022Previous reviewNick was our very ambitious server. There were 4 of us and we got in at a table right next to the window so we could watch the sunset behind San Francisco while we ate some of the best dim sum outside San Francisco.
They are Zagat rated and also Michelin rated. That should tell you something about what to expect when your food arrives.
They're always busy and it's fairly large inside so it's easy to lose yourself in the menu while selecting your array of foods to have for the evening. This is totally my go to place for dim sum I don't have to make the long drive to San Francisco anymore. And the selection is so superior. So many different items to choose from all I can say is look at the photos we posted and that will give you a good idea of the things I've had this night and many other days.
I highly recommend you go to this place and make sure you get a reservation and if you want to watch the sunset weather permitting make sure you get a window seat.Oct 24, 2021Previous reviewGreat experience. Perfect table. This is a return visit to see if the service and quality are different in the evening during the meal service.
The evening service was very pleasant. I came with my lovely wife and daughter. We were seated right away by the window. Bonus. Looking out over the San Francisco Bay to the city and Golden Gate Bridge we caught the sunset. Magical in this Michelin Rated eatery.
We ordered too much. At least 10-12 of our favorite items. On purpose. We love left overs from here. As the food arrived we were not surprised to see the same quality of items. Purposely I reordered a couple comparative orders to my last visit. It was delish. And our table service was just right. Though busy, we had no problem getting extras like soy sauce and drinking water refills. We always had service with a smile.
The only differences that were surprising were minor. There is a open designer wall between the window tables and the main room. I noticed the waiters would step over and through them to serve window tables. Not very safe. The desert called Imperial Osmanthus Jello is one of our favorites. It comes out on a long rectangular plate neatly arranged with an orchid on it. Stunning. This time a simple kitchen plate killed the presentation. Finally. I ordered Steamed Pork Ribs ... and got the item above it Braised Chicken Feet with Abalone Sauce. I should have sent it back but I thought it was ordered by my family.
Still, it is great food and selection. A bit pricey, but worth the trip. Service is always present and plentiful. Recommended.
Call for a reservation. They are busy.

Dynamite view.Aug 15, 2021Previous reviewHaving been in Emeryville many times now on the bay I don't receive notice this restaurant but I never really stopped in to taste it and the name was intriguing. It was called the Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood Restaurant. I always thought that the outside was very Asian and design and that the inside facing the bay must be spectacular. So I decided it was time to take my wife for a special lunch after church.
I was told to arrive about a half hour early because it's very busy there but when we got there was only about a 12 or 15 minute wait not bad at all and it was very busy. Plan wisely dimsum finishes about 2:30 in the afternoon so called four times. We went inside our number came up quickly to our surprise and numbers given at the door so you know your order for being seated. And we were quickly taken to work table with a spectacular view of San Francisco in the San Francisco Bay.
As we enjoyed the view out the window we got our cheat cheats to tick off the items that we wanted to order for dim sum that day and we are no strangers to dim sum. Our family spends a lot of time eating our favorite foods and this is one of them. We also are familiar with so many of the restaurants at San Francisco we have a comparative. That and the fact that I also lived in Hong Kong for well made it interesting for me to see how this compared to it.
Our server was Nick. Since we were new here we had many questions for him and he did not Tire of our questions at all. There are so many new things every time you go into a restaurant you're almost at the mercy of your server to keep you informed. But Nick was very very helpful. So not only in this is a great tip did he show us to the places on the menu where we would find our favorite items also brought a special menu that had pictures of each of the items for the lunch service. What a great help it should come immediately with occidental's when you're not really sure what you're reading.
We ordered quite a bit of food because half of it was going to go home with us for dinner this evening. So we had the poached beef tripe the chicken broccoli with oyster sauce the vegetarian dumpling the chives and shrimp dumplings steamed dumpling with pork fried shrimp and peanuts we had the sticky rice with pork dried shrimp and dried scallop in a Lotus leaf also the semi the steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce the baked BBQ pork buns the Imperial osmanthus Jell-O.
I can tell you from experience that the quality of this food and the level of service that I got at this restaurant was Superior. The flavors the sauce is the texture the tenderness the succulents the wonderful blending of Asian exotic flavors was a thing that made my heart so happy. Everything was perfect.
We grabbed our to-go bag and headed out I happen to stop in the hallway and look at the pictures of the chef that they had sitting on the wall. Here's the part that caught my eye. They had five certificates of fine dining from the Michelin. Yes I said five. No wonder the food was so good I wasn't the first went to notice that this was exceptional cuisine. Michelin ratings are extremely hard to get. The last rating that I saw there maybe more but the last one that I saw was 2016 but that wasn't that long ago and the quality doesn't seem to have diminished to me. I highly recommend you go in and enjoy their astonishing menu. And it was very clean.

This is what East Bay can offer. I wasn't overlay impressed with their food, but the view is stunning. Eating, chatting and taking a look at the view. It makes the whole experience worth it. Their shrimp dumplings are too sticky to the paper and they all broke when I used my chopsticks to pick them up, and their chicken feet are in the smaller portion. Compared to some great dim sum places in SF, this place is definitely not my favorite, I haven't tried their seafood, probably won't come back unless my friends really want to come for the view. People here are efficient and nice. Also tips are automatically taken.

One server was specifically the most welcoming and kind, and his name was Alan! He kept cracking jokes, especially to my parents during our dinner. I loved how yummy the food was as well, because he kept recommending dishes to us to try! We usually order the Peking Duck and the fried shrimp, but Alan was so helpful to let us know about all the Weekday Deals and the best dinner entrées and desserts to order! I do love coming here when my family visits Berkeley & Emeryville!! I would ask for Alan, if you get the chance. Also, the restaurant is located by the water, so sunset is so beautiful here! There's also free parking, by the way!!

I learned today that the restaurant is under new ownership and that their operating hours had changed.
I was here for an association banquet. I was very impressed by the quality of the food.
My favorite dishes were the Barbecue Assortment Platter, Chinese Broccoli & Beef, Salt & Pepper Fish Fillets, Pea Sprouts With Tofu Medallions, and the Mango Sago Dessert.
My least favorite dish were the Mandarin Pork Chops.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 24, 2024Updated review
This is the place you would take your non-Chinese friends to... or your family for special occasion meals. The decor is good and it's very clean. The main floor has amazing view of the bay and the two bridges.
The food is expensive , but sooo worth it for the quality. It's always delicious.
Service.... Well it's better than most dimsum place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 12, 2023Previous reviewThis has been my "go to" restaurant whenever I have out of town guests or if it was a traditional Chinese event to celebrate (I.e. Chinese new year). The food is always yummy and the service is considered quite good for a Chinese restaurant. Most importantly, it has awesome views of the two bridges.
Went recently for dimsum with my relatives who were in town visiting. Their basic dimsum was still the high quality I remember. New for me to try this time was their abalone tart. The abalone was perfectly cooked and super flavorful. Highly recommended!! - Feb 24, 2024
It has been two weeks since my experience here and I am still angry. I'm angry because the service was the absolute worst.
We pre-ordered and had a reservation for 12 people. Our total order including wine would have come close to $1000. It took 30 minutes for the first dish to arrive. Agree another hour and 15 minutes we had five dishes out of the 9 total dishes we were supposed to get. Steamed fish was the ninth dish. We waited another 45 minutes and nothing came. This is after asking our waitress four or five times. Finally I went to the hostess to ask for the manager. She pointed me to the manager walking up the stairs who looked at me and then kept walking up the stairs. So I ran after her and I told her our situation. She basically said too bad. And turned her back on me and went into the office. What the Hell.
I went back to the table and then the waitress came out and said oh by the way we are out of chow fun which was an as on dish for the kids. Are you kidding me?? And by the way, no other dishes came out since I went to find the manager, which was another 15 minute. So it was an hour since our last dish came out.
At this point we decided to leave And I worked with the waitress to deduct what was missing. We still ended up paying $700 which is bull crap. 3.5 hours of our lives wasted.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 3
