I introduced my cousins to something new for them - Japanese BBQ. We went to Gyu Kaku in Richmond Hill for dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed everything!
Their Supreme option includes 72 items, including raw and cooked items. We tried a little of everything and it was all good!
We started with some lighter items, including Miso Soup, Edamame, Seaweed Salad, Gyoza, and more. It was a good introduction for my cousins, with no cooking, yet.
Our table cooking started light, with Calamari and Shrimps. From there, we moved on to the meats, including the Prime Kalbi Short Ribs, Duck Breast, Filet Mignon, Pork Belly, Garlic Shoyu Chicken, and more. We even had some veggies in the mix, before finishing with dessert. It was all good! My cousins loved it!
Our server, Ian, was outstanding! He explained everything quite clearly, always with a smile, and checked on us frequently. I have no idea why his name tag said Trainee. It should read Trainer!
A big thank you to Ian and Gyu Kaku!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 24, 2023
Just had one of the best service and food at Gyu-Kaku. Right from the start, the host and server (Kai) were so very accommodating, personable, and kind! They explained everything and took care of everything we needed to make sure we enjoyed our dinner the whole time (sometimes we didn't even have to ask)!
We did a la carte and the value set we ordered also was so delicious and well marinated. The cuts and the quality are better than other Japanese grill places we've had. The value set was definitely more than enough for 2 and has a really good variety of meats and sides.
The night ended with s'mores and what a better way to finish the dinner on a sweet note. I would definitely come back for the food but most especially the service!
(We also showed up 1 hour before closing and were well accommodated right away until closing!)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 2, 2022
It's Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ. Consistent food excellence for a long time, attentive servers with very very very polite manner, and with a nice restaurant environment, I do not need to say much about it. Just see all the photos posted so far, you can tell the dinner was totally worth it.
Unlike AYCE places, here at Gyu-Kaku focusing on quality, not quantity.
Aside from the bench by the window was a little cramp, everything was pretty good. It's a pricy place with a reason. Recommended.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jan 8, 2023
We reserved a group of 8 ppl for our family dinner on new year eve, the place was clean and cozy.
The service was very attentive and fast, all foods were in good quality, we had a great experience there.
1 point is for the seating, although we managed to squeeze in , it's not very spacious even with 3 kids.
Other than that everything is great.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 3, 2022
There is plenty of parking be it basement or ground level.
There are 2 entrances here, one under the bridge and the escalator/ elevator is the entrance facing Hwy 7
The restaurant is decently sized with 3 main sitting zones but like all restaurants these days, short staffed. Had to wait 20 minutes for the staff to clear off a table (40% full)
Really felt sorry for the waitstaff as they were all doing triple duty and kudos to them to retain their cool.
The food delivery was 'ok' and can only assume the kitchen staff is in the same situation as the wait staff.
The salad was a little plain and the 3 sauces came in handy, edamame is what it is with a sprinkle of sea salt. The meats were ok but the marinated variety were a little on the salty side.
The encounter was a pass but the downfall was just the industry standard of lack of staff and overly salty meats.
Will try out some other shops to give others a tryHelpful 10Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Aug 29, 2023
We didn't get to dine here due to the lack of service. We got seated after 10 mins waiting and then after waiting 15mins, not one server bother to come by the table to ask if we're ready or gave us water, we got up and left.

We did ala carte so we get to order the meats under the 2nd and 3rd tier buffet option like the Harami skirt steak. Harami, Sirloin and Kalbi were the best ones.
Their Gyu-Kaku salad is also very good. With this ordering approach, our bill came up to be a little around the $50 buffet option.
Good to try. Similar to other bbq places though I'd say this is better.
90 minute dine-in limit if your group opts for buffet. Not worth it unless you go for the 2nd or 3rd option, hence just ordering what you want seems better for us.
Watch out for your orders of shrimp. They give you 3 pcs instead of 4 pcs. They may be doing the same with order items so be aware. Write down your orders and check them as they come.
With such a seemingly dishonest practice, I give it 2 stars instead of 4.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 164673359427Apr 14, 2022
So excited that Gyu-Kaku opened a new location in Richmond Hill.
The interior is clean and spacious. I dropped by for lunch and the restaurant was not busy. (You can also made reservations via OpenTable)
There was only 1 waitress during lunch hour. I found service was efficient and friendly.
Special menu available during weekdays lunch hour. Pretty good value with sets from $13 which included soup, salad and a main.
We ordered the BBQ set for 2. But there is also set for 1 which you can pick 2 or 3 meats.
Food is quite good. The set has enough varieties: 3 beef cuts, shrimps and mushrooms medley.
Great options if you just not in the mood for AYCE or just want something light.
I will be back for Happy Hour.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Julius C.Markham, ON377132Jul 1, 2023
Usually in my opening statement I would say where do I start but this time I like to say how do I end. For the price we paid for $56 pp the basic you'd expect the least a decent cut of meat not just disregarded trimming off the butchers block. I have high expectations considering the average price for AYCE BBQ is $45.
The first round came and meat looks decent, I noticed when came to our 3 or 4th order the meat came smaller and smaller and tougher and it's was also heavily smothered with some sort of sauce which basically I'm not a big fan.
Servers are very caring and helpful, service is good, I would say this was an experience that i should had let it passedHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 28, 2021
Usually a huge fan of gyukaku but this location wasn't it... paying a premium for low quality meat... Ordered the set for two for $95 which comes with
Miso Soup x2(2/5) mediocre tasting
Beef Sukiyaki Bibimbap(3/5) nothing special
Gyu-Sushi 4 pcs(3/5) tough meat with overly seasoned rice
Napa Kimchi(3/5) it was average
Garlic Shio Cabbage(2/5) unappetizing
Gyu-Kaku Salad(1/5) no just no...
BBO ITEMS
Prime Kalbi Short Rib* Sweet Soy Tare(2.5/5)
Harami Skirt Steak* Miso(3/5) usually my must order but for some reason it wasn't good at this location...
Filet Mignon* Salt & Pepper(2/5) it had a bad taste
Umakara Ribeye*(3/5) this wasn't bad.. it had a sweet and spicy flavour to it
Pork Belly* Shio(3/5) pretty fatty
Shrimp Garlic*(4/5) fresh shrimps
Broccoli w/ cheese(3/5) very heavy but interesting
Overall the service was amazing but quality control seriously needs to be improved...Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
