Very unkind staff and unreasonable membership rules and cancellation...
My mother and I both had a unpleasant experience with the gym. Would not recommend joining.

I went in TIME and. I signed up to be a member. I was told that it was my trial, then they told me that I owed them $40 because they need a 30 days notice. No thanks! Be careful and read the fineprint people.

I would give them -3 rating . Two weeks after my membership ended & I decided to go on a month to month basis due to upcoming move , they said they have to charge registration fee & card fee (!!!!!! ) I said I have my cards !, it's not missing or lost , but she said" sorry ma'am your card is no longer active nor good "since my info was wiped out (!!! ) & for all the work they have to do , I have to pay

I contacted the manager hoping for some leadership & customer service knowledge ( assuming she has minimal knowledge & clue joe to keep the clients ), but no , she repeated the same jibberish reasoning as to why I have to pay all these added craps for month to month basis (!!!)

I strongly agree with the previous poster! That place is something else! You walk in there looking for a membership and they are all smiles, but when you want to cancel and stop your membership, they are soulless b!tches who will avoid you to no end.

I signed a 1 year membership with them, when the 1 year was up...I noticed in my bank statement (a couple months later) they were still taking money out of my account....I went there and asked why they were doing that...and she said I had to sign some papers to "stop my membership"....why do I have to sign papers to "stop my membership"? (that's friggin retarded!) I signed with a 1 year membership...that's it...one year...not endelss....holy cow!

I signed the papers to "stop my membership"....but they were still taking money from my account...I called them, I went in to talk to them, and each time they told me they will deal with it ASAP and stop taking money from my account....but they continued to do so......finally the last time I went in there to talk to them...they told me there was another paper I had to sign to stop their transactions from my bank account.....SERIOUSLY?! That's so wrong!

This place is so wrong on so many levels! I have heard so many stories from so many women who have been ripped off Fitwells....not being able to stop them from taking money from your bank accounts or credit cards.....this is how this place makes their money....buy ripping women off.....they don't empower women, they rip them off!

I had a freind who went here and she had the same problem...they wouldn't stop taking monthly payments from her, and her membership was long over....they even threatened to ruin her credit.

This place should be slapped with a huge fine for being so ignorant....better yet, they should be forced to shut down!


If you are looking for a good gym, go to Club 16....Affordable, great staff...my 1 year membership was up just last January...and i didn't need to sign any papers or nothing to "stop my membership"...i didn't renew...but they stopped taking money from my account....it was that easy!

I WILL NOT give any stars if I allow to! One star is for the equipment & location only.

I tried the free section and decided to join the month to month terms. It was a bad experience I never had before. The girl helping me to sign up was very rude and impatient when I questioned about the detailed charges that I have to pay. The trainer right next to her got the same attitude. They only emphasized that they were helping me out and didn't show any appreciation for the business. I ended up very disappointed and left.

Their manager called me next afternoon while I was at work. She started defending her staffs and when I told her that I was at work and cannot talk to her for such a long time, she ignored what I said and kept complaining about my comments on their service.

I quite like the location of the centre as it is very close to my house but unfortunately their staffs are very impolite and no knowledge of sales and services at all. It is a disaster for the owner to have staffs like these. They are kicking the business out even it is already at the door.

Awful people. They are eager to have you sign a contract but when you need to cancel they charge made-up fees on top of the monthly fee. If you try to set an appointment with the manager so you can get some explanations, she doesn't show up, she doesn't even have the decency to let you know she will not be there, and this after accommodating her schedule. I've cancelled my credit card as I have no hopes of having the money back. They have the most unprofessional staff I've had to deal with in a long time. Avoid the place, unless you want some unpleasant surprises on your credit card.

This is the only place I know that charges you 120% of your monthly membership fee for one late payment. Nobody bothers to inform you that your payment has not gone through.
I do not recommend this place.

Fitwells is still charging my credit card even though I canceled my membership back in october AND paid in full to cancel. I have a membership cancellation saying I owe $0 but they don't seem to care about that and yet they STILL charge my card without my authorization. Thank goodness for credit card protection. This is the worst gym and they try and steal money from members that cancel.

I will give them 0 stars but it is not an option. Same thing happened to me, I tried to cancel my membership and I couldn't, I had to pay a whole year without been using the gym. After that year they keep charging me by month because automatically the membership change to a monthly basis membership. I have to go today to sign something to stop that. I hope this is going to be the last month I am going to pay.
I will never go back and I do not recommend this gym at all!

Wow. I joined Yelp just to warn you...

I have heard bad things about Gym memberships so up until a couple of years ago I didn't sign into any contracts and used pay per go at local gyms. Eventually I joined Fitwells and almost a year later I regret I had ever stepped foot in this soulless abyss. The owner and the staff seemed friendly enough and the gyms equipment and amenities were adequate. The price seemed fair too. That is about the only positives I can extract from my loathsome experience from there.

Make no mistake, the owner is a pitbull. The moment I mentioned I was moving across town her demeanour shifted. The false smile she had worn all along seemed to transfigure into a cold scowl. I mentioned it in passing a few months before I was scheduled to move but even so she became rude and cold. Finally when it came the day for me to cancel my membership I brought in my new lease, my bank statement and phone statement(with account details,) I also brought in the receipt from the movers. She casually disregarded me. She gave me a form to fill out and told me that I would need more information. When I asked what else I would need she turned away and told me she was too busy. She told me to mail in my information.

I sent the information back with the filled out form and a statutory declaration. I waited over a month in which time I was billed again, despite the fact I couldn't get across town to go to the gym. Eventually I called, I was put on hold for over half an hour, so I decided to go into the gym. The owner apparently wasn't there, but they told me that my cancellation form and evidence hadn't arrived.

So I restarted the process, now almost two months had passed. I collected all the information again, this time I delivered the information by hand. They told me I would hear back ASAP.

A month passed...

So far I am still locked in, I have driven across the City from West Van three times. I have made countless phone calls and emails, I have contacted a lawyer in coquitlam who said if I employ his services he will definitely be able to remit my contract but it's going to cost.

/Rant.

Please, please, please don't support bloodsuckers like Fitwells Gym. There are plenty of other gyms with comparable rates that won't stick you with a two year contract with no exit clause and aggressive methods of retention. My husband and I have since purchased a second hand treadmill.
