I enjoyed the company of well-behaved kittens in the Feline Cafe.
This is my first cat cafe trip in a while. In order to make a visit, you'll need to book a 45-minute time slot at the top of each hour (the remaining 15 minutes are for the cats to rest). The time we booked was for 1 pm. One ticket was $18.08, taxes included.
When we arrived, we had to take our boots off so as to avoid any salts from harming the cats. The cafe is divided into two parts: the cafe portion where you enter, and the room with the cats that you enter through the cafe.
There were a total of 7 cats when we visited; I don't think any of them were over a year old. As you can guess, cats from the cafe get adopted on a regular basis. During our visit, the cats were either taking their afternoon nap or relaxing. This made it very easy for us to pet them. We noticed that they were more playful during the 2 pm timeslot.
After the session, we're given a complementary drink from their selection. I got myself a lavender London fog, which was a great choice. They had merchandise to sell, featuring masks and mugs. They also had a fundraiser with secondhand books that are donated to them: $5 each, $12 for 3.
Overall, it's a good experience. I'd recommend anyone who hasn't tried a cat cafe to come here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sara K.Markham, ON1151401Sep 26, 2021
Wow! What an interesting concept. Drinking tea with cats is a novel idea. I had a great time hanging out with cats. I was initially worried that the cats would be sleepy since i réserved a late time slot. That wasnt the case. The cats were playful and loved being petted. I paid 20$ (for 2 people) for 45 minutes with the cats.
Afterwards i got a chai latte and it was good but very sweet. I also bought vegan egg replacer and vegan jerky.
This establishment deserves more recognition. Where else can you play with cats, drink tea and buy speciality food items??! Its a really great idea and its executed very well.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Omer H.Ottawa, ON100247351Nov 24, 2017
My daughter and I love cats, but the whole family is allergic. I had a kitten when I was younger, but had to give him up when my allergies became unbearable. When I heard about the Feline Cafe, I knew I had to visit with my daughter. We popped an allergy pill before leaving the house. The visit was better than expected, and I wanted to stay longer than we did. I don't think the smile left our faces the whole time we were there. The cat room was full when we arrived. We waited patiently for the room to clear out a bit before spending time with the kitties.
Snacks and beverages were very good, and the service was friendly and efficient.
I'm already planning our next visit!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mimi J.Ottawa, ON1775502297May 17, 2017First to Review
I was SO excited to try out Ottawa's first cat café! I came on Sunday afternoon, but unfortunately, there was only 3 cats out (1 was shy and hid, 1 was sleeping, and 1 was half-asleep). To be fair, a lot of the cats were already adopted, so the café is in the process of getting more cats! I will go back once they have more; at least 5 or so active in the main area!
You have to purchase a drink/food item, or donate at least $4 to get in.
Only 10 people at a time can go inside, so I got a tea and had to wait for about 15 minutes to get in; you can see through the glass doors and windows how many people there are. Some were sitting close to the cats, and others were sitting on the tables further away chatting with each other.
You can also sit in the area without the cats which is very spacious. Their décor is very modern and clean and comfortable.
Two of the cats were on the highest shelf; one was sleeping, and the other was half-asleep (kept opening and closing their eyes). One of the other cats came out occasionally from the back, but was very shy.
Overall, I am sure it would be a lovely experience with more active cats once they warm up to human contact. It was still lovely being able to watch them, and of course pet them (I was able to pet the two on the top shelve). It's also nice since you can talk about the experience with the others that are sitting close to you who are all waiting eagerly for the cats to come down and interact with the humans!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Astrid L.Colchester, United States01637Aug 22, 2019
My kids had told me that visiting a cat cafe was on their summer bucket list. We were visiting Ottowa from Vermont, and I was thrilled to find a cat cafe in town, not far from our hotel.
The menu for the cafe is quite limited (and entirely vegan), but we all had teas and paid the small fee ($3 with a purchase, $4 without) and went in to visit with the kitties. They do have a 40 minute time limit, and a limited number of people are allowed in at a time, which makes sense, or they might just be swarmed.
The group of kitties there during our visit ranges from older cats (some a bit grumpy, others happy to be pet) to what looked like at least one and maybe two litters of quite small kittens. Most of them spent the majority of time napping (and one of the rules is not to disturb sleeping kitties), but a few were out and playful.
My kids had a lovely time, as did my mother and I, and we had to practically drag my daughter out without adopting a cat (or two!). All in all, more than worth the visit!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ed M.Omaha, United States2166298Oct 28, 2017
My friends and I stopped by here in the middle of a rainstorm and had a blast. Perhaps, the timing allowed us to avoid any congestion other reviews have mentioned. We mostly had the place to ourselves.
Regardless, I'd never been to a cat cafe before, but the rules struck me as appropriate for protecting the cats. Don't pick them up, only one in the doorway at a time, etc. A lot of them are kittens and are up for adoption at that, so a whole stream of strangers set the stage for their human interaction.
The menu for the cafe is limited but ridiculously affordable for the opportunity to hang out with cats coming along with the price tag. I expected a separate fee or at least a time limit but wasn't confronted with either. Instead, I bought a hot chocolate and gained entry.
Most of the cats themselves were sleeping but docile enough to allow for doting. Two really young kittens would make sporadic, but rather energetic, entries into the room. They would bat something around or playfully attack each other and then vanish through one of the cat-sized portals to a cat-only resting room. This all despite being "forwarned" that there weren't "all that many cats" at the moment because of so many recent adoptions. Many adoptions? That sounds like a success story to me!
I'm not sure how long we were there, but I definitely enjoyed it. The only reason for 4 stars is that I think that some sort of time constraints should be introduced. Perhaps, something easily renewed when the cafe is slow but that keeps the door revolving when it is not. Maybe, 15 minute intervals and a sign-in system?Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Ed, thank you so much! I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit. We only use our time-limit system during peak times, but we definitely have one in place. We have a numbered waitlist and we enforce a 20-min max when it is busy.
Have a great day and hope to have you visit again soon!

I truly enjoyed my tea, grilled cheese and chocolate bar, and also playing with the kittens. Will definitely go back there again.

Cute cat cafe.
The drinks at this place were really good (latte and peach tea).
The staff was also nice with the orders and telling us personally about the cat names and their habits!
However there were only 5 cats 3 of which were sleeping and one was completely scared of any interaction. Which isn't bad but it would definitely be a more fun experience seeing a couple more cats running around and playing.
The place is a bit small so it can't fit a lot of people and if you come at a busy time the wait time might take a while.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christianne C.Ottawa, ON59189126Jun 14, 2017
So my hubby and I decided to check this out one Saturday afternoon when we were in the area. When we walked in the place looked simple and a little dated. Many people were standing around as seating is limited and only so many people can see the cats at once. So we bought coffee, chai and cookies, the lady behind the counter gave us a piece of paper with a number and we waited... and waited.. and waited... ok the system to see the cats is no good and you may wait a long time to see only a few cats because the others are hiding/sleeping. There were lots of teens in there for over 30 mins taking continuous selfies with the kittens. We finally got in to see the cats and only saw 3 (the others were hiding and with good reason due to those teens). Anyways it's a good cause, trying to find homes for these rescues but the execution is lacking. My recommendations:1- time limit to spend with cats to allow everyone to see them. 2- better ticket system. 3- the gf cookie was ok (but please use separate tongs for gf and non please). Coffee and chai... not so good.
Unfortunately we will not be back. If I ever want to see cats or adopt I'll go to the store or shelter.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Christianne,
I appreciate your feedback. We have grown a lot since your visit and I'm happy to let you know that we have improved many of the issues you raised. We only use our time-limit system during peak times, but we definitely have one in place. We have a numbered waitlist and we now enforce a 20-min max when it is busy, that way everyone gets a turn to see the cats. I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your beverages. We have upgraded quite a few of our ingredients and menu items. I hope that you decide to give us another chance.
Thank you and have a great day.
Josée
