It was most upsetting that the new casino management would not allow the poppy volunteers to be in the entrance of the casino during the 2022 poppy campaign. Many businesses across Canada support this campaign to honour the memory of the veterans who served and those who died for our freedom. Those establishments make a point to provide the volunteers a prominent spot at the entrances of their businesses to assist the Legion in its efforts to reach its financial goal. The casino, however, refused all volunteer requests to set up in their normal spot of many years (where incoming patrons could readily see them) and instead had them sit at a table off in a remote part of the lobby where only the occasional casino attendee might walk by on their way OUT of the building.
How UNpatriotic can you get? Were they afraid those few dollars donated for poppies would cut into their profits?Casino management should hang their heads in shame.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 9, 2018
Spotted this place on our way to Hatley Castle. Decided to stop in on the way back to the hotel.
We decided to just take $40 from an ATM because we needed local currency and we really didn't want to lose much money. Enjoyed ourselves, just like being in a Casino in the states, you push the buttons it takes your money ... lol. I live in Reno NV ... been in plenty of casinos.
Anyway one of us won some money, but although they had the ability to pay us out in US currency they would not do so unless we showed them the exchange slip they would have given us if we got the Canadian dollars from the Cashier rather than the ATM. Up until this time, we simply used credit cards and had no local cash. But we still had another day so we used the local currency at our next meal.
Like in local home casinos, money lasts a short time, you enjoy yourself and you head to your next destination.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Courtney L.Hillside - Quadra - Downtown Blanshard, Victoria, BC054Aug 30, 2018
Went on a Thursday, aug 23rd. Pretty busy, didn't try foods. Curious how a native minor got in... but I wasn't ID'd either.. and I'm not native.. not sure if it's a perk, or just lazy. She's my neighbour, she's like 15...

I have been gambling around the world for 30+ years and I find that places are typically hit and miss when it comes to table games. You win some, you lose some, it's the natural balance of things. However, when the win rate is less than 2% you have to consider the machines are tuned so high in favor of the house that they are basically stealing your money.
I visited this place on 3 occasions and it was always the same. Ultimate Texas Hold'em and 4-card poker. Place the bet, the dealer pulls the cards from the machine and the house wins. 1 hand out of 30 is a tie with the house and then it's back to losing. I felt really bad for the dealers as most people think they have some effect on the cards, but they don't. They just absorb punishment for the people upstairs setting the odds too high for players to actually enjoy themselves.
I will never set foot in the place again. I will fly to the mainland to go to one of the proper casinos that know the players have to win every once-in-a-while of they want me to come back.
Absolute shithole.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kendall F.Honolulu, United States599100220Sep 29, 2018
Small but nice casino! Reminds me of a super mini nice Vegas strip casino but mini! Lol. One restaurant and one bar and one poker table! Didn't get to play but I did talk to a loooot of nice Canadians! I enjoyed it!

Possibly the worst buffet I have ever had. The selection was pitiful and I was treated quite rudely by one of the staff for using my plate twice. I love tacos but this was disgraceful. The one redeeming feature was the ice cream.

Second time there and we tried the Thursday pasta buffet. You pay $10 for the buffet and then you get $10 put on your player's club card. We did not touch the pasta that was sitting out, but thoroughly enjoyed our "make it for us while we wait" pasta. Excellent customer service with the cooks - however, the servers are overwhelmed. Salad bar is good, but sparse. Soup was good (butternut squash) and the dessert bar also good, but sparse. My complaint is that you can't get a server, if you need a coffee or water refill. And you can't pay your bill until your server (who you probably didn't see, cuz they are too busy) brings you your bill. All in all, would go there again for this pasta buffet.

We went on April 28 for the $10.99 lunch. Besides a very scant salad bar and 2 soups, they had: white rice, some type of creamed pasta, cooked beets, grilled porkchops. Yes, that is all the hot entrees consisted of. Dessert was fruit, icecream, and a dessert square of some type. Very, very disappointed.

The worst casino I've ever been to
We used to go regularly but it gets worse every time
Nice ladies in restaurant and staff is nice enough
But everything that they start right they quickly screw up
So bad that we now drive to Duncan when we want to play
Need competition real BAD
Will never spend another dime thereHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jazminka T.Victoria, BC020Aug 31, 2018
It's a casino. They recently renovated, and while it looks pretty, they must have gone overboard on costs, because the renovations aren't done. They've cut back on staff and are shutting down the kitchen earlier and earlier. After 1am, you can't even gt a hotdog or chocolate-bar. Front desk staff aren't informed of changes to the restaurants. There's supposed to be a restaurant called "Chi Express" but we couldn't find it. Just hotdogs and chocolate-bars at "1708". I sat and listened to a pit boss telling a roulette dealer a fishing story, dropping f-bombs every second word... I don't think he was aware I was sitting right behind him. I suppose it's part of their move to try to appeal to a younger audience, but swearing and diminishing the offerings isn't the best move. Maybe it works on the mainland. It doesn't in Victoria.

Do not waste your time at this place. Four of us went to there Diamond Buffet on Sunday and will never return! The only time we were acknowledged was when someone found us a table. Once seated, we became invisible!!! At least with the buffet we could get our food ourselves--- although they had run out of glasses for water and soda, and was told at one point our server would bring us water--- wait a minutes What Server??? The buffet was a carvery this evening, but when my friend and I went up, no one was there. We managed to find a few dried pieces of turkey to add to our plate! We were there for at least 90 minutes, and never had anyone come to our table!!! The service and hospitality of this place is lacking--- of course the place just remodelled and it must be more interested in racking in the $$$$ to pay for it!!! Since this place is part of our community, I would think they would make more of an effort! The four of us have been passing the word on our experience to all of our friends and community! This is a NO star!!!!!
