We stayed at a dog-friendly AirBnB over Thanksgiving and found this nearby dog park. The parking lot was a little difficult to find as the ground was covered in leaves, but we figured it out. This was one of the most fun and nostalgic dog parks I've ever been to - the entire dog park has obstacles and materials made from old McDonald's playgrounds, like from the 80s and early 90s. It was a blast from the past and very fun to identify which items I remembered. The pups both loved the park - there were tennis balls everywhere and it was surprisingly clean.

My kids like this park but I see SOOOOO many hazards and broken down areas.... The smaller park next to it is in TOP SHAPE.... But the older kids area NEEDS TO BE UPDATED BADLY!!!! Need to be redone and fixed.... So many broken pieces- slides are awesome but THIS PARK NEEDS SOME ATTENTION!!!!

They don't make playground like they used to, and they certainly don't make slides as tall as Duke Parks duo slide tower. It's all the kids talk about these days, "Duke park has the best slides ever!!" [from the lips of 3 & 5 years olds]. Oddly enough, the 2-5 year old play ground isn't where the young kids want to play, they're all about the 5-12 year old area, and who wouldn't be. Duke park is home to two separate play structures, the 2-5 year old area houses one structure with three slides, climbing steps and a boarded up fireman's pole. The older, 5-12 year old area draws in the crowd. With two adult and two bucket swings, a odd looking seesaw and climbing wall, and every assortment of hands on climbing paraphernalia: tire ladders, spider webs, swinging rope bridges, fireman's pole and of course the two massive slides.
In addition to the playgrounds, the park has a tennis court, covered picnic shelter and tons of additional picnic tables with trash cans and grills scattered throughout the park. The large area is hilly with lots of trees, although the playgrounds themselves aren't shaded (important to note during summer heat!). But you will find a drinking fountain, as well as male and female bathrooms, on site. Although the park has a lot of green space, you wouldn't be able to play an organized sport here, too many trees and hills. But, a great place for kids to just run wild. if you're here on Wednesday nights shortly after 6pm, you'll see a bunch of people running through the park as part of the Fullsteam Run Club.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Crystal C.NC, United States02Jan 15, 2022

This is a fantastic park to take kids from toddler to elementary age. There is two equipment areas. One is smaller but provides a variety of things for play. The other at the top of the hill has a nice toddler area and then a bigger area with a very unique duo slide tower that even my 19 month old twin girls were curious about. Definitely recommend checking this park out.

Huge park with lots of space for children. Definitely great for bday parties and cookouts. The location is nice and the children seem to love it. I usually come here on the weekends to let the children run around.

Best park we've been to in Durham so far. Swings, water fountain, restrooms, picnic shelter, LOTS of slides (including two huge covered slides), rock climbing walls, and various other means for your kids to have fun and let out some energy. Downfall is the traffic noise and that the bathroom has no lock. Not a deal breaker but would rather not worry about someone barging in on me while I'm in the bathroom with my son. Totally worth a trip there though if your child is feeling restless!

One of the best kids playgrounds in Durham, located just north of the downtown area. It's also a pretty large park, with close access to S Ellerbee Creek Trail which winds around to the old Durham Athletic Park. Beautiful part of town.
