DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT get an account with this credit union under ANY circumstances. If you fall on hard times they will pounce like a shark that smells blood in the water.
I have an account with them so that I could get my car loan away from Capital One. Boy that was a big mistake. Getting an account with them. One day I went into the branch to get my paycheck cashed and the branch manager here in nashua, New Hampshire took the check away from the clerk and began looking it over to see if it was fraudulent. He refused to let me cash it. Before that the clerk was looking at my check anyhow to see if there was some reason he could refuse it as well. Anytime I go in there they look for a way to refuse me service. They are simply awful!
Now I get direct deposit to another bank - Discover Bank. I never use DCU to put any money in any of those accounts. I just keep the accounts open for the sake of the car loan. Recently I asked to renegotiate my car loan - because a woman hit me and it reduced the value of my car and DCU refused. I thought maybe they would help. Instead they told me they would only offer me a settlement or arrange to have the car repossessed.
They are very toxic. They also said if I miss one payment or cancel the insurance due to being laid off they will come and pick the vehicle up. When I asked about the arbitration agreement in the contract they ignored me and said I had no rights.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John D.San Francisco, United States4374663Mar 22, 2024
Horrible customer service. I submitted a secure message via my account with them online and they literally never responded.

I am a depositor at DCU, went into Nashua office to get some temporary checks and they got my address wrong. I hope the regular checks I ordered have THE CORRECT ADDRESS.
Now I have to go back to the branch to hope they got it right.
Very unprofessional.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Fransau M.Snellville, United States0810Mar 11, 2024
While DCU is great in some areas, but not so great in the areas that truly matter. I've been with DCU for over 15 years and have purchased at least 6 vehicles using loans. That was a very smooth process via phone. However, I've found it very frustrating when every time there is a matter that requires urgency, I'm required to print, fill out a form, and send back via snail mail. DCU is a DIGITAL CREDIT UNION with NO walk-in locations. There is absolutely no reason why every form and process should not be digital or at the very least able to send via email. Over the 15+ years I've seen very little progress as it relates to process, technology, and advancement in banking. Especially compared to other credit unions and banks.

Bill Payer has been down for the past 3 days...October 29, 30, and 31. Lots of people are trying to pay bills. I keep getting messages thanking me for my patience. However, I have run out of patience. I'm sure DCU won't pay late fees due to their bill payer being down.
I've been a member for 40 years. I have seen a decline in service and moved most of my money out about 5 years ago. However I kept my checking account. Now I will move my checking elsewhere.
I'm done.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - bibhas s.CO, United States01Apr 11, 2023

I have to join those who have a negative view of DCU. I've been a
member since 1979 when I started with DEC in Merrimack NH, at that
time the DCU services were great.
Moved to the west coast in 2020, and have seen the gradual decline of
DCU, most recently with their updated online system which supposedly
was to make it more modern (whatever that means).
Most banks' online systems can manage the financial accounting aspects
of accounts, what differentiates them is the ease of use of their User
Interface. This is the primary interface customers have with their
banks in a high percentage of cases, especially if a branch is nowhere
near.
DCU went from a very user-friendly fast online system to a slow
clunky system, that seems to have been designed by engineers, rather
than by people with user experience. Some may say "You're just an old
fart having a hard time switching from "the old to the new". Not So,
I use the latest online systems and apps, and can tell good from bad.
In my view, the online DCU system has gone from an "A" to a "D-".
One rarely changes the format of the account download feature as many
people keep their own account information on their own spreadsheets.
So I was not too happy to see DCU change their "*.csv" download
format. But wait, they've added 235 character jumble of upper and
lower case letters called an "ID" to the download. Who in their right
mind, would think that a user has a need for 235 characters of
gibberish? Please fire the outfit, that's designed this horrible
system.
Lastly seeing the overall 2.7 rating of DCU, it astounds me that
management has not been proactive in stemming this decline. It would
probably benefit DCU, to have the current incompetent senior
management swept out. When you go from a "Good/Excellent" rating to
"BAD!" it's extremely difficult to claw your way back to the top! From
a soon-to-be former member.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tyler B.Gilbert, United States12431Jan 27, 2024
If I could give -5 stars I would. The absolute worst possible financial institution I have worked with in my life. The lack of intelligence of their customer service team is almost impressive. They lie to you, they mislead you, they put you on hold for extreme periods of time, and generally have a dismissive, disinterested attitude. I am embarrassed I even considered using this credit union. Avoid them at all costs or you will regret it.

Just trying to call customer service, not only once but three times. It's so confusing and it doesn't help with anything at all. When you agree to get a call later on, gives you options to schedule an apt next week when you really need help right away. Really!!!!!?????
1am a banker too and I know how and where to get help, and still I am struggling. Can you imagine other clients what they go through???
This is ridiculous! I scheduled a transfer fron
DCU acct to my other bank for October 11th,2023 . The money was taken from DCU acc on the 10th and today is 11th ,7:28 pm and there is no money in my other bank. Where is the money ,which is disappeared for two days??????Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jack B.Buford, United States09Jun 7, 2023
DCU loses another 20+ year member.
BillPay Failed: after DCU converted their IT systems, multiple mortgage payments missed (I paid late fees).
CC Pay Failed: DCU VISA autopay transfer from Checking to CC failed two months in a row... I didn't catch it in time.
Even though it was a DCU to DCU technical failure, they reported it to the credit unions (over $7) - the only bad mark I have in 25 years.
I called them, multiple times, escalated to managers. The answer was "sorry, we have a new policy... we see the autopay transfer failed but you are responsible regardless". Filed dispute, nothing matters. It wasn't insufficient funds, either (I was over-paying).
I used to recommend DCU to everyone. Now moving my finances (and $100k) to another credit union. The member service just isn't what it was in the past, and the new interfaces are okay if they work... but Transfers and Autopay HAS TO WORK. When AUTOPAY doesn't work your credit score is trashed?!? JUST NOPE.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1
