My husband and I got takeout at Brawta and my meal was great, my husband's not so much.
I got the medium Jerk Chicken ($13.49). It comes with rice and beans, and your choice of coleslaw or steamed vegetables. I chose the latter.
My husband got the Jerk Pork Sandwich combo ($10) which comes with a canned drink. He got a 7Up.
My Jerk Chicken was good. It was flavourful and not too oily/greasy. It wasn't spicy hot though, so the spicy BBQ sauce I got on the side added some heat to it, which I liked. I got a drumstick attached to a thigh and an additional thigh with the medium portion. The steamed vegetables were cabbage and carrots and nicely done. Not too hard, but not too mushy. Also not too greasy. The rice and beans were also good. I would have liked more beans mixed in with the rice though. It was also not too greasy, which I appreciated, as some places make it way too oily. I quite enjoyed my meal. I gave my husband a thigh and he had some rice and vegetables and felt I had made the better choice.
His Jerk Pork Sandwich had a huge chunk of fat in it :( Also the bun wasn't toasted and since the coleslaw was wet, he said it made the sandwich soggy. He was not a fan and regretted his choice.
Service was courteous and efficient. The restaurant is not far from "Pizza Corner" (Blowers and Grafton). There are a few seats to eat inside. No outdoor seating. Street parking only.
I'm giving 4 stars based on my own experience here, with my Jerk Chicken meal. I added my husband's experience for additional information, but I did not lower my rating as a result of it.Helpful 38Thanks 0Love this 35Oh no 0 - Jacob B.South End, Halifax, NS4976Mar 7, 2020
I ordered the Yaady again from Brawta and unfortunately found the jerk chicken much drier this time around. Certainly will be back again, but not their best performance.
I found their jerk chicken to be spicy, but I have a low tolerance for spice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael B.Halifax, NS294013Jan 25, 2020
Absolutely phenomenal food, super delicious and tons of it. I'm a big eater and I couldn't finish this. The staff are warm and friendly. Can't wait to go back.

I ordered delivery from here tonight and I was impressed!
I got the jerk chicken combo with a beef patty and of course, a ting. I was in Jamaica last year and when I was there I ate jerk chicken every day, sometimes twice a day (don't judge), and there was a man on a bike who would ride by and sell us patties for $1 each and they were one of the best foods I've ever had .. so the bar is raised pretty high for me!
My quest to find jerk chicken that resembled what I had in Jamaica in Halifax has been unsuccessful thus far. The other Caribbean restaurants make it in kind of a stew. In Jamaica they use these big drums on the side of the road and they use a spice rub on the chicken and a separate jerk sauce on the table that you can add - Brawta is the first place in Halifax that does this, with the sauce separately.. it makes a difference, trust me!
The patty was delicious, it had a strong tumeric flavor which I really like. It wasn't dry at all and just very flavorful. The chicken had a side of vegetables and rice and peas. The sides were both very tasty, but the star of the show was the chicken. The chicken was tender and fell right off the bone. It was super flavorful and the jerk sauce was SPICY and sooo good. It tasted exactly like what I had in Jamaica.
I will definitely go back. Their desserts sound really interesting too. My only complaint is they I wish they had fried chicken on the menu and rum cake!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andre R.Montreal, QC511387Nov 1, 2019
I eat out daily! I had the combo plate (2 meats with a side of rice'n'black beans and coleslaw). I chose the jerk chicken (2 x 1/4s), as its a rarity to find delicious Jamaica food, Jerk Chicken. The jerk chicken was tastefully spicey, not hot. If you want hot, they have some sauces available. I have to say, this gem does a disservice to Jamaicans, as now Halifax doesn't have to travel to Jamaica for grrreat jerk chicken !!! The resto is cute and clean.

If you want good old homestyle Jamaican cooking, this is the spot for you! I had some goat curry take out a few weeks ago and it was so succulent and delicious. I asked for mine to be made a bit spicier than normal and they definitely made it so! My only real complaint is that there was too much rice and not enough peas within the rice. Also, there were sharp bone fragments in the goat. I know that Caribbean cuisine often has bone in, and that's ok, but I cut the inside of my mouth on one of the sharp bone fragments. Maybe they could check for that before serving?
Their cabbage is perfect though! I'm excited to try more things on the menu like their Jamaican soup, jerk chicken and patties. Will be back again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
