My wife and I had a wonderful evening here. The food was excellent, the best we've had in recent memory. We followed the recommendations of Ryan, our server, and Will the extraordinarily gracious manager who guided us well and took great care of us through the evening.
We even managed to have a nice time with our 10 month old in tow. Somehow the acoustics made it possible for us to hear each other talk without feeling like our baby was disturbing other diners.
We look forward to returning soon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 13, 2024Updated review
This is one of the few restaurants in DC that has a happy hour from 4-6 pm even on a Sunday. Menu's not extensive and prices although lower than the regular menu versions are still about the same as other less expensive restaurants. Food quality however is consistently delicious and presentations is good. We had fish tacos, tuna flatbread, and crab cakes and 2 beers at $6 and $7. About $90 for two people before tip. Only thing that made this a 4 star rating is they charge a fee if you use a credit card - surprising for a restaurant of this calibre to do this as it is a practice not usually seen in the US and even overseas for the last few years.

For the first time decided to order takeout instead of dining in. Had two 3-course lunch of clam chowder and squash soup, sword fish and fish taco, and for dessert key lime pie and flourless chocolate cake. Everything as usual is delicious. In particular the clam chowder - nice smoky flavor and so chockfull of clams and fried oysters - best chowder in town. The squash soup is tasty and smooth although portion control seems a bit off - is it supposed to be a cup and not bowl size? It's about half the amount of the clam chowder. The fish taco has two pieces of fish but just one small taco shell - would be better with a second shell making it easier to wrap around. All in all however we enjoyed a really delicious meal. Even the flourless chocolate cake - I generally am not a fan of chocolate desserts but would definitely make an exception for this cake. Since restaurant week is actually on for two weeks this time, might just go for another takeout and try something else on the menu next week.

Recently went after not going for year and it was still great! Good quality food. Good service. I did not regret spending the money or the time. Keep it up Black Salt!

The restaurant itself seemed well-equipped, with many of the workings expected from a restaurant of that scale and level. The ambiance was particularly enjoyable, creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere for diners. On the positive side, I appreciated their eco-friendly approach with the use of nice reusable towels instead of paper towels in the bathroom. It's a small but significant step towards sustainability.
Unfortunately, the most disappointing aspect was the food. Despite high expectations, the dishes turned out to be flavorless, lacking the taste and excitement one would anticipate. Maybe it could be that I tend to enjoy foods that are on the more extreme side in terms of seasoning, but I just found it to be a bit bland overall.
Funnily enough, the chips from the children's menu, that came with the chicken tenders, were the most flavorful.
In terms of service, I have to give credit where it's due. The staff provided good service, attending to our needs and ensuring a pleasant dining experience. They helped to recommended dishes and were courteous and efficient, adding a positive touch to our visit.
Ultimately, we ended up going to a different restaurant to finish the meal in search of something with more flavor.
Although I stumbled upon this restaurant on Google Reviews with high ratings, I have to respectfully disagree. The food, unfortunately, did not justify the price, leaving me feeling dissatisfied. While the ambiance and service were commendable, the lackluster flavor of the dishes overshadowed the overall experience.Helpful 0Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 20, 2023
Nothing but good things to say. A bit off the beaten track but worth the trip. We checked out happy hour right before dinner. Oysters rockefeller was excellent! Adies mussels were good. Calamari was a good portion. Drinks were good and not watered down. Staff were extremely nice and inviting. There's a fish market up front and the restaurant in the back. Not too big but intimate. Try sitting in the Cafe to have access to the happy hour and dinner menu. I will be back to try more things!

Yes. Yes and yes!!Nov 1, 2023Previous reviewWhenever I am in DC!! Neighborhood gem. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Excellent selection of wines. Including some really hard to find Chablis's. We always follow our Servers recommendations and don't be afraid to ask for items up at the market. New Chef is not only maintaining my high standards but has exceeded expectations my last visit. I think the food and service were great. The restaurant atmosphere and decor were not. For the prices they charged I would expected something nicer. Interior is in serious need of some updates..

I went here for my birthday and had a great time!! The service was wonderful! The food was amazing, and it was a very fun, bustling scene! The food was actually too good! I so overate!! I enjoyed everything, starting with the delicious selection of bread. I loved my lobster appetizer and greatly enjoyed the calamari for the table! I should add that they offer both clam chowder and lobster bisque, which both looked great! I then enjoyed a most unusual presentation of crabcakes! I got the butterscotch dessert, and they also brought me a special treat for my birthday! They also printed on all the menus a birthday message for me, which was a nice touch! It was definitely my type of menu! Lots of unique dishes and plenty of lobster! And they did an excellent job with my Long Island iced teas! Always, very important!! :) A wonderful restaurant that I would highly recommend!!

This place is so cute. Bar area was really busy. And they do have dining room that reminds me of Vintage style. Menu was well curated and service was great I got tuna tartare. Was great. And octopus salad. No complains. Crab cake sandwich was delicious. Followed by great desert. Chocolate mouse i believe with ice cream. They had many different oysters and more interesting dishes. I will try to next time. Friendly bartenders. Parking - street. Wasn't too hard to find. On sat late afternoon.
