Always Helpful Movers

Using Always Helpful Movers was honestly, the best cross-country moving experience I've had, by far, and my family and I have moved quite a bit. Thank you John and the team for making the trip to Florida to move our belongings!

From the beginning, I interviewed several movers in the Kansas City area to move my family and I to Florida. We had a home's worth of items to move, and found Always Helpful Movers based on reviews on HomeAdvisor. I called them up and scheduled a time for them to come out and walk through the house to provide us with a quote on materials, moving fees, insurance, etc. John showed up to provide us with a very detailed quote, and answered my many, many questions. ***(Please note that I did a heck of a lot of homework - asked all the questions about fees, storage, fuel costs, insurance costs, packing and packaging costs, etc. I was very diligent and made sure I had all my answers before selecting a mover. It was very important to me that I fully understood all the services and rates they offered, and I made sure John and the team understood my expectations and what I was looking for. Doing my homework helped make this experience better for me, and I'd recommend you do the same. Ask ALL the questions, and make sure you fully understand the services that are being provided so you and your selected moving company all have the same expectations.)

The quote John provided me was the lowest quote from the 4+ moving companies I interviewed. While that was very appealing, it was the customer service that really sold me. I appreciated that Always Helpful Movers made it a rule for their workers that they wouldn't cuss or talk crudely while around customers, they would respect our property and treat customers with respect. I have worked with many moving companies in the past that did not share these same values, and as a young female in charge of the move, I didn't feel respected in past situations. (I've had past movers eating, smoking weed on the job, speaking crudely about one-night stands on the job, etc.) Always Helpful Movers made me feel confident and respected during my cross-country move, and that is what really earned them this top review. This was apparent in the way they explained things to me, in how they spoke to me on the phone, in how they called me to let me know if they were running 15 minutes late, in how they updated us on prices and fees, etc. From day one, they showed me respect and never made me feel uncomfortable. Thank you for that.

On the packing day, a team of six men came to my house and packed up all the items remaining. They took great care in helping me keep a full inventory list, by numbering and labeling all items according to my color-coded system. They were careful and respectful to my property, and even put down plastic and mats on the carpet so they wouldn't track dirt into the house. They were kind, respectful, and got the job done very quickly. Come moving day, they came to my house to pack everything up into the giant trailer. Again, they covered the carpets and got the job done quickly. When they left with our items, I knew exactly who on their team would be delivering our goods, when they would arrive, and helped me to feel very informed. We purchased the highest insurance as a peace of mind, to ensure all our items would make it safely.

My husband met them in Florida for the arrival of our items, and the two-man team did a great job unloading our items into two separate locations. They were quick, respectful, and worked with my inventory list to make sure everything arrived, and to make sure everything was unloaded into the right spot. They re-assembled any furniture (like couches and bed posts) in the final destination, and made sure everything was to my husband's standards before leaving. One thing that I really appreciated was their attention to detail. When re-assembling the bed post, the movers weren't able to locate the screws and hardware that should have been sent with the bed. Instead of blowing it off and saying "tough, good luck fixing it!" like other movers have in the past, John went to Home Depot to purchase the correct hardware himself, and came back to reassemble the furniture. That kind of care and respect for our property truly impressed me.

When all was said and done, the quote they provided me was spot on, and that was the amount we paid. All items arrived exactly when they said they would and arrived in great shape - nothing was broken or destroyed - they took great care of our items. (I think perhaps I noticed a few scratches on a picture frame, but for moving an entire house and having that be the only damage - I'm really impressed.)

Ultimately, it was a great moving experience. We learned a lot about the process and about good service by working with Always Helpful Movers. I am sad they are only local to Kansas City, as I'd love to be able to hire them for all future moves - I don't think anybody else will stack up.

This company was hired to load our long distance move. This load was totally boxed and ready to go and this load took 9 1/2 hours which was over what they had bid along with we had to help load. Also we provided tons of padding material to be used (instead of buying it from them). We were told all of it was used and then we were charged for paper padding. When we unloaded we found 4 boxes of padding never used along with lots of items damaged/broken. We've reached out to this company for resolution several times via email/phone with no resolution to date. We do not recommend this company!

I chose this company based off a recommendation I received from my sister. From initial phone call I felt this would be a great company to work with. When my June 1st move date arrived it was a totally different experience. The mover were 15 minute late. The first question they asked me, What would you like us to place on the truck first? I thought they are were the professional. Jessie and the other coworker proceed to yell at each other in my apartment. They were arguing over who knew the most. Jessie was using profanities. I finally called the office to complain and I did get apology from the office. I have a 1bedroom apartment and it took 5.5 hours for these two to move me. They sent out Dylan and he did give me a slight discount. I think they could have did more. The price they quoted over the phone was $540-$640. I paid $560. It's not my fault you sent me two new movers. Jessie stated he been with company for 4 weeks and the other one for 4 days. I used YOU MOVE ME for my last move 2 years ago and had a GREAT EXPERIENCE! My sister recommended that I try Always Helpful Mover. I thought I would give them a chance and they the stated they are faith based. I think they should look for those qualities in their employees as well. Jessie has a potty mouth. First and Last time Customer!

I called this company as it was a locally owned business and not a national company (and it had been in business for many years). The movers were punctual and did a good job. However, the bid that the owner gave when he came to the house was almost twice what was quoted initially and I had not changed anything to be moved on my end of the contract. Be wary of the bid for this company!

Long Distance (Out of State)
Words can not express the gratitude that I wish to express to these movers. They went above and beyond their services for me. I am a very sick person that needed to move to a place where I can receive the care that would help provide a better quality of life. There was a lot to pack and unload and these guys stepped in and made it possible for me. Don't know how I would have done it without them. Very professional, caring and reasonably priced. Will use again and highly recommend them. A blessed experience.

One of the worst moving companies possible.

1. Move was originally scheduled for 9 am. The movers called about 5 minutes before 9 to inform me that they would be about an hour late. Called again about 5 minutes before 10 to say they would be about 30 minutes late. Finally showed up at 10:30.

2. Even with three movers, the move took a lot longer than intended. I was moving from a studio to a one bedroom. It took nearly three hours for them to move a twin size bed, desk, shelf, couch, and dining table. At one point, I was so frustrated with all the talking they were doing among each other I began moving my things down to the truck.

3. I called twice before the move to request wardrobe boxes (once three days before the move and once the day before), which they said they would provide free of cost. On the day of, the movers did not show up with them nor did they know they were supposed to have them. We all then proceeded to wait an hour for another man to show up with them.

4. The movers showed up a whole 45 minutes after we did at my new place, and that was not including the 15 minute detour I had to make before leaving the city. I understand they were driving a truck, but an HOUR EXTRA COMMUTE?! And of course I still had to pay that. When I asked the driver why it took so much longer, he said that they had to stop to use the restroom on the way.

5. THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU AN ACCURATE QUOTE. On the phone when originally booking them, I was told $1080, which was understandable for a move to St. Louis from Kansas City. The day of, they showed up with "travel fee" that I had not been told of before for an estimated fee of $1250-1300. The movers called the office where the owner rudely spoke to me saying "we are not moving you for free" when all I was asking was why I was not informed of this fee beforehand. Once reaching St. Louis and getting unpacked, the movers called back to the office and put the phone on speaker. The total came out to $1570. My mother spoke to the "boss" who addressed her in the most demeaning and belittling way possible, asking if she could even read the contract. They refused to even acknowledge the $1250-1300 quote they had given us only a couple of hours before. Just absolutely ridiculous.

Overall, I do not recommend this company at all. Please go elsewhere.

I absolutely hate moving with every part of my being, but I'd move again next week as long as these guys are in charge of the job. I cannot say enough good things about them! They are true professionals with excellent work ethic who will take utmost care of all your possessions. They took on my long distance move very last minute at night after I was completely abandoned by another moving company. Always Helpful movers took my things across 3 states and not one item was broken, damaged, or even scratched. They wrapped everything carefully even when on a time crunch. John's entire staff is amazingly professional and kind. Both managers that worked with me were excellent. They always answered the phone when I reached out, very responsive and attentive. The young Nigerian and Cameroonian movers, Tom, and the adorable Joseph were all so hardworking and efficient! They never took any breaks and worked tirelessly so the jobs were done in record time. I am immensely grateful I stumbled upon this company, they took all the stress out of my hectic move and I will use them again in a heartbeat for any future moves!

Best movers we have ever used!

Victor, Curtis and Steven were so great to work with! We loved working with these guys! They loaded up everything extremely fast, but were still very careful with the items. The three of them knocked it out in no time! When they unloaded at the new house, they were very careful not to damage any items or walls. These guys were nearly sprinting to get all of it done - which saves me money so I'm very happy! Once they arrived, it was a very stress-free experience! Thank you for your hard work!

There could be a few improvements around the scheduling piece, but everyone I talked with was very nice! The move itself was a little behind on the start time due to a hiccup they had that morning with another move, but they called me as soon as they knew so I could plan accordingly. I appreciate when people are honest and sincere! They more than made up for it in the actual move process.

I would highly recommend these movers to anyone else and will certainly be spreading the word!

DO NOT use this company unless you want to be ripped off. My family and I will never use a moving company again after this VERY negative experience. I called Always Helpful Movers to set up a time to get a quote. The Owner John came out to do a walk through. I told him we had two 16 foot trucks booked bc my husband didn't feel comfortable driving a 26 foot truck. I told him we needed a 26 foot truck and someone to load and unload. He said that they have a 26 foot truck and a team that could do that. He sent me quote. I also had a couple other companies get me quotes. John called me twice to see if I were going to go with them. That should of been a red flag. My husband and I discussed the quotes and went with Always Helpful Movers bc they are supposed to be Christian based. Based on that we chose to support them even tho they were a few hundred higher than another company. We sent them the deposit, contract, as well as the insurance money. Shortly after they deposited the check I would receive phone calls every couple days from John as well as different employees asking when I was going to pay the deposit and other questions. I had to inform them they were calling the wrong client and I was not going to Green Bay but Bemidji MN as well as my deposit was paid and cashed weeks prior. I confirmed every time they would be there at 9am on moving day. John said yes 9am start and done at noon. With all the mistakes we started to worry but already paid the deposit and didn't want to lose $2100. I had to call the day before to ask a question about the balance and was told again 9am start. John sent a group to our house on moving day an hr and half late with a pick up truck and trailer. My husband called John about how we were supposed to have a 26 foot truck and they were supposed to be there at 9am not 10:30am. John said all our stuff would fit in the trailer and if it didn't he would send another truck over. It didn't all fit bc we needed a 26 foot truck like I said at the beginning. We were planning on leaving Kansas City no later than 2pm. The first group loaded and left. John never called so my husband called him and was told he was unavailable. We had to wait an hr for someone to bring another trailer to get the rest about 4pm. We didn't leave our house til 6pm to say our goodbyes to our family. We finally got on the road to drive 6.5hrs at 8:15pm. We got into Minneapolis at 4am after being up at 6am since we were told a 9am start. Two days later they came to deliver our stuff to our new house. John sent us a bill for $2400 when it should have only been $1753. John's estimate was way off and we could and should of went with another company that was $1000 less instead of trying to support a Christian based company. We reached out to a few people who have used his company before and they had the same complaints about the drastic difference in price. He estimates low to get the business and springs the bill on you at the end.
