I got the almond chocolate croissant, it was flaky and buttery. There was a good amount of chocolate in it. The price was great too especially because it was under $7! Unlike at other places.
The red bean bun was good and not too sweet, but there was a bit too much red bean compared to the soft bun.
The coconut almond twist is a favorite of ours and never fails. We can make it last three days. The glaze on top is sweet and pretty.
We also got a mango tale bun, but the mango custard inside looked a bit split. Overall, it was tasty.
It can get packed during a rush hour, but as long as people remain in a line it will be ok. Some guy was in training but the line still moved fairly fast. Recommend here! They also have drinks.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 19, 2024
Quick bite to eat while waiting for another restaurant at UTC. I visited on Saturday around 1 and there was a small line but not too bad. Ate my hot dog bread while waiting outside for my water. Drinks took a little longer, maybe 10 minutes.
I don't think they bake the bread fresh, just a storefront and a drink making area. But the bread tasted fresh enough to me!
No inside seating but I'm sure you can find somewhere in UTC to sit.
Overall, just alright. It's a really small store so not really giving cafe vibes. But since it's not really destination-based, it's also hard to get to since parking at UTC is a hassle. Not bad but not blown away.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 27, 2024
I've been to other 85 locations before so I knew what I was expecting. It's a cute little shop in UTC that offers pastries, desserts and beverages. I love their taro bread roll. It's very filling and perfect for an on the go treat. I purchased a few goodies to share and enjoy too.

I'm a fan of 85C and its hard thinking about giving this franchise less than 4 stars, but the location is so small and just feels very makeshift compared to other locations :( The drinks taste fine - nothing out of the ordinary - whereas the bread options are severely lacking even during the late morning or early afternoon. You might not find what you like, even for some of their staple items like the milk pudding bun.
Queueing up to order or pay is also confusing, it's not clear if it should wrap along the bread or start in the middle, so easy for ppl to get confused, I can't imagine what it's like if it got busy here. I'm just not excited to go here compared to the Balboa Ave. location, which is way closer and more spacious with seating.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 745361052Jan 9, 2024
I've definitely had a better experience here than most, compared to the other reviews. I've been to locations all over California and Hawaii and I think this location is up to par on drink quality and cakes and breads. Everything has always been fresh. The only downside I've noticed is that they don't always seem stocked up, no matter what time of day I go. It is a smaller location so not having full stock really does show. Otherwise my experience has always been great. Staff has always been pretty fast, even if the line goes outside.

Service is extremely lacking. Staff get orders wrong and then when asked to redo them correctly, they will complete with attitude and a scowl. When I am paying $6 for a drink, at least serve it correctly and with a smile. Staff who can't provide courteous customer service shouldn't work in the service industry.
I won't be back...lots more options available (Wushiland boba is less than 200' away).

This 85C doesn't seem to have much variety of bread circulating throughout the day compared to other 85Cs. There is also a small selection since the shop isn't that large. The quality of bread across all 85Cs has gone down over time (increased prices and smaller portions). The pastries at this bakery are average and taste the same, consistent in quality compared to other 85C bakeries.
I like the taro bread since it is dense and the filling is 9/10 times packed compared to other bakeries like Sunmerry bakery. I enjoy grabbing a bread here and walking around UTC mall.
Workers are friendly at this location even though there's always a line. I am not sure if they still yell out "FRESH BREAD" every time but that's something I always enjoy at 85C.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 18, 2023
Their pastries are great. The service is always friendly at all the locations I have been to. The bakery is on the smaller side, but clean and stocked.
The thing that stops me from coming more frequently is all the plastic packaging. They didn't have everything in plastic before and you could just get all the pastries in one bag. It's so wasteful to have all that plastic packaging.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 2, 2023Updated review4 check-ins
Not sure why I even bother coming here again! So disappointed in the last time. It's a hit or miss. You come and it's fresh and other times it's old. But when you're desperate you'll do it... we need an 85° in north county San Diego... *sigh*
I get my usual milk bread, taro bread, and a cream filling bread. The milk pudding bread was definitely not fresh!! I think it might have been a day old. The bread itself is not its usual soft stretchy bread but instead it was harder and flakier. The milk pudding inside was hard and stuck to one side. It wasn't soft and stretchy with the bread. I had many fresh ones before. Taro bread was also old... man. Not sure if I came too early and they used day before left overs?! I did see a new batch on the cart but they weren't putting them out. Or next time just go get those and forget whatever is out.
Go to the actual store on Balboa or Mira Mesa instead of this one!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will reach out to the store to resolve this and we will be in touch with our trainers so they can coach the bakers at this location. We look forward to improving your experience.
Oct 27, 2022Previous reviewLocated in UTC, this location is very small, probably 1/4 size of what an 85 should be, but it's in the mall.
I came here after dinner at Hadilao, wanted to get some sweets after a burning fiery hot pot. Everything was out, which I guess is a good thing. Still had my favorite little bread with cream filling though. I got some cake slices in their cake display window. The bread with cream filling, very consistent. Very good. As for the cake slice... it was super dry! Disappointed in their cakes. Paris Bakery have better cake slices.
