I've been thinking about an epic cake for my dad's birthday all year and when the time came...I almost forgot! Simply Frosted does custom cakes and they usually require a 2 week lead time for cakes per their website. I was just under that time frame when I submitted a request for a quote and they were able to accommodate! I had found pictures online of an F1 car style cake that I wanted. It turns out that they had done an F1 themed cake already and shared that picture with me. It was perfect! If you have something in mind, definitely give them a call, not all pictures of their cakes are up on the gallery.
It was easy to communicate via email with the team on what my requirements were. I had to prepay before the cake was started on and this was done via e-transfer. The day of pickup, I received a call letting me know when they would close so I could pick up before then.
The cake was amazing! Everything was up to spec except for one little mistake where they printed "daddy" instead of "dad". Not a huge deal but I did notice that. The cake also tasted great (double chocolate!) and had a great sponge. We were given verbal instructions on how to store the cake so definitely ask about that if you aren't sure.
Lastly, on the price, I did do some searching to see what the going rate was. It was similar to other bakeries and not as jacked up as the ones that are downtown Toronto. It was still in the hundreds so not cheap by any means but well worth it for how it looked and tasted!Helpful 18Thanks 0Love this 18Oh no 0 - 184531863Mar 29, 2019
Such a cute little bakery!
I got a few cupcakes from here for my brother's birthday and they were DELICIOUS!
We got 2 Double Chocolate
1 Birthday Cake & 1 Brownie
All of them were so tasty! I can definitely tell the cupcakes were freshly baked, and the frosting was decadent and full of flavour. Usually cupcakes typically have a heavy buttercream frosting, which I'm not a big fan of, so I was so glad when I tasted these ones.
The brownie, was chocolately, dense and had a sprinkle of nuts inside of it.
I will definitely be coming back! :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Prachi S.Greenwich Village, Manhattan, United States4144Jun 11, 2019
We searched/ googled this bakery for bday cake order and we were extremely happy to get beautiful cake made for our baby birthday

Tried the regular strawberry cupcake here before for $3 which was delicious so I decided to order 36 mini cupcakes for a team treat. It is $35 for every 24 mini cupcakes so in total it cost me around $52.50. You are allowed a maximum of two flavours and it has to be the simpler ones i.e no fillings inside. I got vanilla and red velvet.
Service was kind and friendly, the order was ready in time (I ordered 4 days in advance by the way), and there are care instructions that come with every order.
The cupcakes were a hit! They were very moist, not too sweet and very flavourful. My team loved them!
I would love to come back again for future orders/try their other flavours. If you are in the South-East Scarborough area, I highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dilanee S.Toronto, ON251303424Jun 18, 2016
Love the cakes they make! My friends got me the ombré buttercream cake and everyone at the party fell in love. Definitely will get cakes from them again!
4 stars only because the cupcakes that they make are way too sweet! It does taste good, but super sweet! Also, this place is a bit on the pricy side but it's worth it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alexis C.Toronto, ON902318Oct 12, 2017
Amazing amazing and delicious!
I ordered four cupcakes for my boyfriend's birthday. I ordered over the phone and the person who help me over the phone was absolutely amazing she answered my questions about flavours she didn't rush me.
When I picked it up the bakery wasn't busy I was help right away and my cupcakes looked absolutely fantastic. The lady gave me instructions about when to serve the cupcakes so they taste extra moist. I will most definitely be ordering my birthday cake from them.
The flavours I ordered were double chocolate strawberry, birthday cake and Oreo. My boyfriend's favourites are the double chocolate and the Oreo.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 28, 2015
What can I say. Their cupcakes and their yummy. Got half a dozen for $16.50
I like red velvet the best but that may be biased since they can make red velvet out of anything and I would like it.
They have a loyalty card program where if you buy 9 half dozen cupcakes then you can have the 10th half dozen for free. I don't think this card is very useful in my opinion. By the time anyone ever reaches the 10th half dozen cupcakes they would have tapped out from diabetes or something if you know what I mean. The only way I see anyone getting to the 10th dozen is from buying them as gifts.
There are other goodies here like brownies and cookies but their main focus is cupcakes hence their name. For the price, the cupcakes here are pretty good but I still think I would pay a bit more and get the ones from the Old Firehall Confectionery.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Donna J.Scarborough, Toronto, ON724335Oct 28, 2017Updated review
Higher priced and lower quality. Went in today for their 5th anniversary 'party' today and the place was quiet as usual. The flyers said they would have samples, prizes and more in store, but all they had were mini vanilla cupcakes out, and you could earn a single raffle ticket if you spent more than $10. Okay, this wasn't NOT what they had advertised, but it was a bit of a letdown. Nevertheless, on to the cupcakes.
I ordered a half a dozen, usual price is $16+ tax (comes out to about $3 a cupcake). I thought it was okay value a year or two ago when I got 6 cupcakes for about $13, but it's getting a little out of hand now. I never loved their cupcakes, but they did have a nice variety. I tried two of the cupcakes I bought today, the pumpkin spice and the lemon drop. Their cupcakes always just seemed like empty sugar to me, but these ones were different. The pumpkin spice cake part was good. The icing, however, tasted like plain butter with a little hint of brown sugar. It literally just tasted tasted like butter on a pumpkin spice loaf. I'm not sure if my palette has just refined itself, but I don't understand why everyone is raving about these. They look nice, but they don't taste it. The lemon drop was just plain white cake with the same sort of very plain buttercream and a drop of lemon curd in the middle (which I'm not sure if they make in store or not, as it had a strange chemical aftertaste).
Service isn't the best either, they're just trying to get the job done. Didn't have a smile, or any small chit chat about which cupcakes are popular or anything like that. Really put a bad taste in my mouth.
tl;dr: Quality has gone down. Time to find a new cupcake place for the East end.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 24, 2017Previous reviewVery cute! Been here a few times as I frequent the area often, and they usually have the same featured cupcakes on display. One of these is enough for a simple one-person dessert, as they tend to be very sweet and indulgent, what with the soft cake and the thick frosting.
Usually I get the Dulce De Leche, Chocolate Macaroon and Salted Caramel (which, true to it's name, is very salty and very caramelly). I have yet to try the double chocolate cupcake, which I've been eyeing for awhile, but these make for great gifts or party favours and are priced very reasonably!
Worth a visit if you're craving a cupcake while in this corner of town! :) - Kat M.Toronto, ON156109193Jun 16, 2013Updated review
Once a small business operated out of the owner's own kitchen and now a full functioning bakery, I knew I had to reunite my taste buds with the cupcakes I fell in love with two years ago and check out the new store.
The bakery is located in a small plaza just off of Lawrence Avenue in Port Union. The interior decor of the cupcakery is very classy + boutique style, clean, organized, and has a glorious display of their freshly baked cupcakes. In addition, they also offer cupcake parties held in a separate room at the store although targeted mainly for young children (but I'm sure adults are welcome too).
The customer service is excellent - very friendly and efficient. The owners (both sisters and both very passionate and talented) greeted us right away and explained all the flavours they had on the shelf that day.
The cupcakes are much larger than they were from a few years ago but that is not a complaint, simply an observation. The prices of the cupcakes are comparable to other cupcake shops selling at $2.85 each. Recommended flavours:
strawberry & cream
vanilla cake with strawberry filling & topped with strawberry buttercream.
The cake is actually light and fluffy and the strawberry filling & buttercream makes it a wonderful summer treat.
oreos and cream
vanilla cake (with crushed oreos mixed into the batter!) and oreo cream cheese buttercream on top
This cupcake is perfect for those that want a heavier dessert with a good balance of chocolate.
pistachio
pistachio cake with light pistachio buttercream caramel bar-bits
Very moist and good for anyone that is craving a change from your typical cupcake flavours. This one is definitely a new favourite of mine.
Overall, I am glad to see the business is flourishing and that their cupcakes are still just as good as I remembered them a few years ago. If you are a lover of cupcakes and like to indulge, this place is definitely worth visiting and trying a cupcake...or 12.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Aug 25, 2011Previous reviewSimply Frosted Cupcakes is a small, recently opened side business run by a very nice lady by the name of Vanessa. I was introduced to her cupcakes by a coworker who had ordered them for her daughter's birthday and brought in left overs to work! After tasting the "cookies & cream" cupcake I fell in love. This vanilla based batter, mixed with crushed oreos and topped with cream cheese frosting also mixed in with crushed oreos was an absolutely delicious creation! It wasn't too sweet and the cream cheese frosting was perfect. I was immediately hooked and knew I had to have more!
I must say, in terms of taste, these cupcakes by Simply Frosted Cupcakes are definitely one of the best in Toronto - and I have been to many cupcake shops in T.O.!
Unfortunately, there is no website up and running yet but contacting Vanessa was pretty easy. I just e-mailed her (simplyfrostedcupcakes@gmail.com) the details of my cupcake order for my bridal shower and she was very accommodating and friendly! She was also very flexible in the pick up date and time of the order and method of payment.
Below is a list of the flavours...
Caramelo-Butter peacan cupcake with caramel filling and banana cinnamon frosting
Lemon Drop- Lemon cupcake with lemon filling and lemon frosting
Nutty over Chocolate- chocolate cupcakes with chocolate peanut butter chunks and peanut butter frosting
Cafe Mocha-licious- chocolate cupcake with nutella filling and mocha frosting
Pretty n Pink- Vanilla or Chocolate cupcake with raspberry filling and cream cheese frosting
Oreo & Cream- Vanilla cupcake with chunks of oreo cookies and a oreo cream cheese frosting
Coconut- Vanilla cupcakes with coconut frosting topped with toasted coconut shavings
You are able to customize any order.
**Each order must be 1 dozen of the same flavour**
I highly recommend this business! Great customer service and delicious cupcakes! The prices are VERY reasonable too! - Miss Lady ..Toronto, ON725814042Sep 28, 2014
La meilleur cupcakerie in Scarborough!!
My favorite is the triple chocolate. It's chocolate icing was a cross between mousse and icing. Sooo good. The flavour reminded me of Fudgee-Os.
They have a nice shop with a lot of selection. Some of the options I saw today included: banana cream pie, double chocolate, Chocolate cherry pie, toffee caramel crunch, lemon pie, strawberries and cream, and pumpkin cheesecake.
They also had cake pops and chocolate coated marshmallows and sugar cookies. I had the cookies and cream cake pop. That was quite nice. Also not too sweet.
They have a lot of variety. Price is $2.75 per cupcake. But the sugar cookies are grotesquely expensive at $3.00+ for one. I lost a little respect for the owner when I asked for the price of a single square plastic container instead of the round one with no extra ribbon etc., and she said over $5.00. Over $5.00 for a square plastic when it actually costs her just under $1.00 each to buy them? That price mark is so insulting to the customer. The cupcake itself is not even that much money!!!!
Other than some of her unseasonably marked up goods, I'd recommend the chocolate covered marshmallows.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
