Dr. Nyugen is my optometrist here for the last four to five years, and I can't hesitate to recommend her! I have a very challenging issue due to a botched surgery many years ago, and she immediately understood all the complexities and how best to address them. She takes great care in her work and allows plenty of time.
She also communicates with my ophthalmologists as needed, for example a cataract surgeon, to make sure they share my information and treatment details.
I also have to commend Lillian who's helped with frames and lenses. Super professional and convivial, she's picked out some really amazing styles that people often complement, and she's so helpful (everyone there is, really) when it comes to dealing with any issues with quality or having lenses sent back to the lab etc.
Finally, it's really easy location to visit with ample free parking right out front.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Staci S.San Francisco, United States443Apr 25, 2024
I have been going to this office for over 18 years. I used to see the male doctor but have been seeing Dr. Mann for years. Dr. Mann and her staff, Suzie, Crystal and Mina are all knowledgeable and so kind. I can't imagine going anywhere else. I have been a loyal customer for so long and appreciate them so much.
However, I am frustrated. They no longer have my Pro Design frames. You would think this wasn't a big deal and I could just choose a different pair but they are the only frames that really fit my face. Suzie and others there have tried so hard to find another pair that works for my small face and none of them work. I can't even tell you how many other frames they had me try on. They were so patient and persistant. They spent so much time trying to find a different pair that worked but nothing fit my face.
I know that there are cheaper options for glasses (Costco, Walmart, online, etc) But I've been a loyal customer for so many years and can't imagine not going there in the future. But if they can't get me a pair of glasses that fit me, what am I suppose to do.
Likewise, I asked about the magnetic / clip on sunglasses that I've seen that several other places have and were told that they no longer carry them. It is so strange to me that they wouldn't have at least one brand that offers them. They are so popular right now.
I love Dr. Mann and the staff but their options for frames isn't what it use to be and I'm not sure why. I truly hope they can bring back the Pro Design Frames and get a line of magnetic clip on sunglasses.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Pamela B.Redwood City, United States362113Dec 31, 2023
Changed my eye profgesional for new insurance. Was very happy to find a female practitioner so very conveniently close to me. Great location with easy parking. I've had no trouble getting appointments. The optometrist is very thorough and knowledgeable. I felt she crossed ever step to find the correct perscription and was especially careful finding the right contact fit for my vision situation. The clinic is very attractive and fully equipped. They also have an excellent selection of frames. The staff is friendly, helpful and great with assisting you with a frame selection.

I am very upset please be aware that they are crook, i went for my annual eye exam and I even did not let them dilate my eye, first of the optometrist ask me to bring the box of my contact lens so she can start of the check and start with same eye prescription, I had one of the boxes for my right eye and she asked what do I think my left eye was I told her what I think & I was not sure. after examination she gave me the same prescription that I from last year although I told her my vision has changed. after I came out her front desk person said I have to pay $65 for copay & fitting I was shocked, I said I never had to pay because my insurance pays for those, came home called my insurance confirmed what I told him called back to let him know that I was over charged , he started saying that we are premium, may be the doctors you were seeing were Costco doctor, I told him I never seen by Costco optometrist, I was furious he kept going on & on not letting me talk. worst service I have ever experienced.

Crystal, the technician is wonderful!
Crystal is truly an amazing person and absolutely much delight to work with; she is friendly, patient, helpful, cordial, respectful, and courtesy.
It's truly an enjoyable experience working with Crystal because I had many questions and Crystal happily answered all of them patiently and competently without any annoyance. Their products' prices could have been a little more competitive; nevertheless, I'm 100% satisfied solely because of Crystal's wonderful customers' services and will not be hesitant to come back again.
A BIG thank you to Crystal!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 300500402Jul 15, 2011
I don't really want to write a review of this place because Im completely torn between a totally frustrating experience and then one that gave me a brand nwe outlook on how contacts should feel. The first Doctor I met here was a nightmare. Funny yes, but a wee bit arrogant and wreaking of booze, YES. I left feeling confused and wearing a pair of VERY uncomfortable contacts that I was told I'd "get used to". Well I didn't. They hurt and he was clear with me that the Acuvue 2 brand I was used to were obsolete and pointless. So off I went in the painful "hip" brand.
I ended up going back and asking for a different doctor. She was great and very knowledgable. She immediately discounted everything I was told by the other doctor and gave me some great advice about how to care for my dry eyes. She also told me about a brand of contacts I should try. I put them in and even though my eyes were still sore - YES SORE - from the other contacts I had been wearing ... THESE FELT SMOOTH AS SILK against my eyes. That was a sign. I said yes I wanted to try them and off I went. So the bummer here was that this was my second visit for contacts. I now had to test another brand and return for a check up in a week. I did. They were still great. But then I had to wait another week to ORDER the contacts that I had said were great. Kind of a bummer to have to wait that long when I know 800 contacts delivers within 24 hours.
All in all - will I go back? perhaps I will because it's right downt he street from me and my insurance covers it. I know I can trust the female doctor there too. So we shall see! =0)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Morgan M.Redwood City, United States0154Aug 10, 2020
I have been going to Optometry at Redwood Shores (Dr. Mann) for 9 years. Dr. Mann and her staff are absolutely courteous, professional, and kind.
Lillian is extremely knowledgeable about frames when it comes to buying one from their stylish brand name and affordable collection. She always gives valuable feedback which makes it easy to find the right one in a short amount of time. Today she blew my mind when she detected the reason as to why my new reading glasses were wonky despite being professionally adjusted a couple of times. Apparently the right lens was a millimeter or two larger than the frame, so it was sent back to the laboratory to be properly adjusted.
Wishing them all the best and hope they will be safe during these critical times!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dee L.Moss Beach, United States200119Dec 27, 2018
They're great. Really are.. until they pull a fast one on you....
I went to see Dr. Nguyen this year. Previously I saw Dr. Mann at the same location and with the doctors I have an overall great experience. They take their time and make recommendations about my eye health that I have never had before.
I have had one major issue. This year I lost one of my eyeglasses that I had made in April. I had received a promotion and really liked a specific brand of lenses (Essilor-Crizal/Transitions brand). When I went to order replacements, I verbally asked for the promotion in the same brand of lenses, specific lens technologies in glare reduction/sun protection/bluelight; as I liked the technology and the feel. I'm sure they knew exactly what I was talking about since they fulfilled the promotion in April and it only referred to this specific brand/type of lens. They first told me that the promotion was unavailable, then made my lenses with a different brand (VSP/Elite brand) without telling me. In fact I believe Lillian tore off the detailed description of my new lens order in my receipt before handing it to me for that reason.
When I asked about what happened, another person told me that they no longer carry Crizal/Transitions/Eyezen brand lenses anymore. The lenses that were filled in my eyeglasses were clearly not of the same caliber, and my eyes felt very different using them.
When I complained to the brand manufacturer about what happened, they mentioned that Optometry of Redwood Shores still was a dealer of their lenses, and even a participant still of the lens discount promotions that were verbally denied to me!!
Clearly the shop had guided me away from this specific brand of lenses and their promotions, but had not mentioned this to me in any way. Delivering my prescription with a different brand of lenses without notification (equal quality or not) was not appreciated, and cost me a lot of time to fix this issue to get what I wanted. Imagine if you preferred diet coke and ordered one at the restaurant, and you got diet pepsi or diet RC cola instead? You wouldn't be happy 100% would you? Even though it's the same overall product? Being that this is my eyeglasses, this issue was compounded every minute of the day I wore lenses much different than what I ordered. It was kind of like shopping for a toyota corolla and ending up with a honda civic being delivered without someone telling you that the shop had switched product vendors...same thing... yes, but only to a degree..
If I had wanted an inferior lens + older technology, I would have just gone to Costco or Walmart Optical to get this... just my thoughts on the shop. Always a great service experience though. Thanks for reading.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Phoenix T.Burlingame, United States0275Jan 14, 2020
Susy is phenomenal. I am not a patient at Optometry at Redwood Shores, but Susy, who was my main point of contact over email and phone, spent a ton of time helping figure out whether or not my insurance covered my exam. Though in the end it did not, I am very thankful for Susy's promptness, aid, and help in then canceling my appointment. Great customer service!

I've been coming to Optometry @ Redwood Shores for years. I prefer coming here because they have a lot of advanced diagnostic equipment to assess the health of your eye. Chains like Site for Sore Eyes use outdated equipment, but at Optometry @ Redwood Shores you can do a quick optic scan of your eye instead of having to dilate your eyes. They are always on time for me and the exams are quick and painless. I'm normally in and out in less than half an hour.
I've seen many of the optometrists here, including Dr. Robertson, Dr. Waters, and Dr. Lynch and they are all great.
They accept VSP.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
