Cute bakery with lovely presentation on their baked goods that taste good.
Got a couple breakfast sandwiches and muffin to share for breakfast. Muffin was kinda tasteless but definitely freshly made. Breakfast sandwiches needed salt. Expensive for what you get, but for what is available in Gibsons, pretty good.
Service was absent minded but they were teenagers who were trying their best.
Cozy, small place with a lot of IKEA furnishings, silverware and decor with a cabin theme.
Free wi-fi. Get the password from the staff.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Heather C.Orlando, United States2360307Apr 20, 2023
Wheat berries continues to get worse. I used to be a regular customer, but in the last five years, the place just continues to decline.
Today, I decided to give it another try, just for the sake of nostalgia. I wouldn't make that mistake again.
The staff were rude, they didn't thank me for coming in, they had to be asked to bring my hot chocolate to the table, my sandwich was not cut in half.
The ham sandwich was lukewarm. The staff never inquired to how my food was. I spent over $45.00 on one ham sandwich, four cookies, two brownies and one very watery hot chocolate.
Their prices are outrageous! The food was terrible, the hot chocolate was very watered down and the staff was rude.
The only music was nonstop, "Beach Boys". The food selection was small.
I wouldn't make the mistake of ever eating there again.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Gabriel C.Gibsons, BC16671Apr 30, 2023Updated review
Great pizza!
We moved to the Coast in 2019 from the NY area. I'm from Montreal so good pizza was part of life. We've tried so many pizzas on the Coast, in North Vancouver and Vancouver and we've been consistently disappointed,
Pizza is not on Wheatberries' menu but Gino, the owner, showed me a pizza he had made on special request. So I specially requested...
We are loving it. The garlic, onions, peppers and mushrooms were all sautéed to perfection. When we ask for sautéed mushrooms anywhere else they look at me like I'm from Pluto. Dry mushrooms taste like cardboard.
Gino apologized that he doesn't have a pizza oven but the crust was great anyway. The tomato sauce is homemade and way better than the red substance on the other pizzas.
Well...we are already reserving for Super Bowl Sunday but we'll be requesting a lot before then.
PS I am upgrading my previous review. The coffee has been consistently good lately and the music has improved: classic rock, jazz...the old Lawrence Welklike music is long gone.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jan 7, 2020Previous reviewI'm used to funky mainland coffee shops and Wheatberries is not that...Wheatberries is my coffee shop and there are reasons to love it: The staff is wonderful, they make it a pleasure to come in. The coffee is not the best but a bit above the barely drinkable you find just about everywhere (I don't like the Starbucks trend to burn the bean until the coffee tastes like turpentine.) The baked goods are great and made on the premises.
The music! Ugh! When I spoke to Gino, the owner, about the music I was told it was a geriatric population that comes in. I'm geriatric and a Woodstock generation. That generation above me grew up on Elvis not "easy listening jazz." (Jazz was never supposed to be easy.) This is my grandmother's music and she was born in the 18th century; she loved Lawrence Welk and would have bobbed her blessed head at Wheatberries.
Being old does not mean we can't be exposed to the interesting music that's coming out. One of the universals of coffee shops is that the baristas get to choose the music. Wheatberries is the reason I bought my noise cancelling headphones. If you can't join the 21st century at least join the 20th.
Gino, it's possible that your music is keeping some of the locals out of Wheatberries. Gibsons and surrounding areas are the last remaining hippie communities. Put on some Grateful Dead, some real jazz--Coltraine, Miles, Louis, Bill Evans...Maybe the tables will fill up with more aging hippies like me.
And while we're on the geriatric topic--for those of us with arthritic knees please put a step in to get down from your lovely veranda. It's way too high for my knees to handle. If you are considering a geriatric clientele you would but a low step in. - 32918449797Jun 10, 2022
Quite a big bakery with from beverages and pastries. They sell fresh bread and pastries. There are muffins, pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, and more. Friendly staff and clean place with their own parking space outside. The taste and style of the cake is more European. Simple and sweet, but tasty.

Today, I met my wife for lunch and we couldn't have been more disappointed.
We got the soup of the day - black bean - my wife got a London Fog and we split a grilled cheese and a cookie. This came to $40 with a 12% tip.
The soup was strangely bland as was the grilled cheese. The blessing is that the bowls of soup were so small.
The place seems to have gone downhill recently. It was almost empty as I remember it used to always be bustling.
The staff were really helpful and friendly but this couldn't make up for lousy food and high prices.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Crystal H.Vancouver, BC220710301421Nov 15, 2011First to Review
Almost right off the ferry, this Wheatberries is like a beacon for the driver who didn't get their early morning carb fix on the Vancouver-to-Gibsons ferry. If you're still on Vancouver time, you might be tempted to compare Wheatberries to something in Van, but that's unfair. Compared to most things on the Sunshine Coast, Wheatberries has what it takes.
They bake their own pastries (go with the oatmeal raspberry muffin or the white chocolate and raspberry scone). There's lots of coffees to choose from and while some of the clear plastic containers look a little too glassy looking (read: could be rancid, the americano turned out to be pretty decent! Not amazing, but in general, a good pull.
For the size of this location (the parking lot is large, the display cases have homemade muffins and scones, and there's plenty of seating), there's not a whole lotta selection... it's pastries and coffees, and that's really it. If you want to fill up on a big ol breakfast, you won't find it here. I'd suggest traveling down the highway another 10 minutes... We've been here a couple times for lunches, breakfast, and treats.
The avocado wraps were delicious and good either warmed on the grill or cold. Lots of veg, and not too much cream cheese. The sandwiches looked good and packed with veggies.
The breakfast sandwiches were very tasty, and hit that itch we sometimes get for them. We also bought a bag of their granola to have for breakfast with yoghurt, and it was also very good.
We shared some sweets: the turtle bar, almond tart, Belgian brownie. Besides the brownie being a little dry, everything tasted fine and as expected.
Service is good. Even the staff who didn't seem very friendly did me a favour that they don't normally do.
I would recommend stopping by if you are in Gibsons.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - K L.Surrey, BC012Nov 12, 2017
The service here was terrible. The woman who helped us didn't even greet us just a "what do you want"
The people in the line behind us greeted her with a "hi how are you" and her response was "I'm exhausted. What do you want"
No hello or anything back.
We ordered my boys the peanut butter cookie and I took a bite and it tasted stale.
For all the hype about this place I was disappointed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jena J.Vancouver, BC167821Jun 10, 2012
