I like walking the different neighborhoods in San Francisco. The hills may slow me down, but they don't stop me!
That being the case, it's easy to tempt me to go explore. So one day seeing the Mrs Doubtfire house did the trick.
It's a nice hike to get there. Once you arrive well it's a house. It's nice and it's big. No sign of Mrs Doubtfire or the kids. Walk around, then I'm off! -

1 check-inListed in Only in San Francisco, FREE FOR ALLThe Mrs. Doubtfire House is on the corner of Broadway and Steiner in the Pacific Heights neighborhood in The City.
In my line of work, I often get asked by tourists if I have been to two iconic houses filmed in San Francisco: The 'Mrs. Doubtfire' house and the 'Full House' house. I've lied in the past and said yes, but I can no longer live with this lie as it's eating me inside filling me with shame and horror that I must rectify at once.
So a few weeks ago during my day off, I happened to be in the area and decided to pay a visit so that I can finally lift this burden of shame hanging over me like a dark and gloomy cloud. I parked a block away and walked to the house on an overcast and foggy day - a typical San Francisco weather. Then she appeared before me where she stood like a Grand Dame of old Hollywood standing out within the the other Victorian Houses saying, "Look at me; here I am!"
It's also been over a year since Robin Williams passed away and his spirit was felt lingering in the cool and misty air. In front of the house are two trees filled with tributes etched on their bark like a tattoo permanently inked on a skin and stones filled with messages of love laid on the base of the trees. What a wonderful memorial that organically transpired and fully supported by the house's owners knowing the impact it had to all his fans. For that I commend them.
The house itself is beautiful, majestic and charming that is undeniably and uniquely screams San Francisco. As I begin to leave and walk back to my car, it started to sprinkle and felt a little sad and happy at the same time as I recall running into Robin Williams twice in my life - once was inside the elevator of UCSF on Parnassus and the other was at Crissy Field where he was jogging with his then second wife. No, I didn't ask for an autograph or took a selfie with him, but I just nodded each time and gave him a wink. These are memories I will cherish with me as it always gives me a smile whenever I think about them.
Thank you, Robin Williams. You have made a lot of people smile, laugh and cry, and I wish you were still here with us. -

1 check-inListed in Leap Year, The OddballsWhen you look at a map, the distance to this place isn't so bad. And then you see it. The hill. Oy, the hill. But I wasn't going to let this hill defeat me from my objective. And you know what? It was worth it.
It's still the same house and you'll recognize it because there are people taking picture of it. I had to wait a bit to get my clear pictures while a woman with the bright red boots got her selfies done and moved along.
Not much else here. Do take a moment to look at the stones under the tree in front. What a movie! -

Make sure to go down to 2640 Steiner. The house is very underwhelming and the house address is highly invisible

Stopped by here during my trip to SF. Very nostalgic. There were other fans outside taking pictures, too. We talked for a bit about the house looking different than it did it the movie - the house looks like it has been painted a darker color since the movie, but it is still recognizable.
Worth a quick visit, for sure. -

1 check-inMrs doubtfire house is a must see when visiting San Francisco although it's not much to see but the house it self but it's on the corner of Steiner & Broadway streets.
just standing around the house taking pictures of it brings me back to when the movie came out. I grew up watching robin Williams play this classic roll as a sweet old house sitter, and I can just see Sally fields opening up the door when mrs doubtfire rings the bell.
Such a classic movie, till this day I never get bored of watching this movie, it's sad to see Robin Williams go such a talented actor.
The house still looks as it did in the movie, it still has its Gorgeous charm it's big and it's very beautiful. If you plan to visit using mass transit you can take the 22 Filmore bus line or if your traveling by car you can gps 2640 Steiner street. -

1 check-inI remember being really sad when I heard the news about Robin Williams' death. So, one year later, when I happened to be in SF, I was so glad I could do something about that I had to go see the house for myself. At first I thought about going to see his actual living house, but then I decided it would be very creepy and invasive, so, going to Mrs. Doubtfire house was a little bit lighter.
It's just a regular house, but I was happy to see it hadn't the stairs closed as the Full House house. In front of there are rocks and trees full of messages from fans. There's something so positive about these messages that I stayed there for half an hour reading all I could (a lot are vanishing). While I was there, a group of girls showed up with flowers and in a second, a camera man that was around started recording. It was a little weird, but soon the girls were sharing stories about him and it all became very emotional.
If you have a chance, include the house in your tour, you'll be filled with peace and good memories of the all the characters he used to play. -

I heard the family that lives in the home are very understanding what this place means to people. My kids grew up with the movie and we were all heartbroken by his passing. It is very touching to see the stones left at the base of the trees in front with farewell messages and quotes from Dead Poet's Society. Please try to be respectful of the current owners privacy as I saw others taking photos standing on their stairs leading to the front door. I guess on the plus side they do not invest in a security system since there is always someone watching the house!

It's very unassuming! Easy to find (It's right on the corner). If you've never seen Mrs. Doubtfire, then this house will not make sense to you. But...if you did see the movie, then it will all make sense. We stopped by to check it out. There were a few people outside taking pictures and the tree in front of the house has been carved with names and well wishes to Robin Williams.
If you have some time to kill, I recommend stoping by this place. What would make it more interesting is if you watch the movie either before you go or after so it will put everything in perspective. -

I'm sure the owner is beyond the point of being annoyed, but that's what happens when you live in the Mrs. Doubtfire House!
We came here right after Robin Williams died and it was packed with people and memorials. I'm not even sure how the owner was able to get into and out of his house. That's how packed it was.
It's now become a tribute site to Robin Williams where those who wish to pay their respect to the man flock.
It's a beautiful home and neighborhood, so I wouldn't advise becoming a local there, but it's nice to visit if you're a true Robin Williams fan. -

1 check-inOften a rare occasion where I briefly visit a location and easily give it 5 stars.
You only need to see the exterior of the house, from there you are already down memory lane of funny moments, memorable quotes and tear jerks from Mrs. Doubtfire.
The nostalgia was worth the visit. -

1 check-inI must admit, my childhood was not filled with the constant watching of Mrs. Doubtfire, but I did watch it once or twice so I got an idea of how it's suppose to be.
This house is a house. It's nothing more than a house that is located in San Francisco, about 0.6 miles away from the "Full House" house. Parking is all on the streets and since it's residential, there is no need for coins.
The house itself is gorgeous. My cousin and I only looked at it from across the street because we didn't want to be creepers right outside of the house.
Definitely a nice reminder of your childhood hero, Robin Williams. Come here and just enjoy the beauty that is an expensive San Francisco home. -

Definitely cool to see if you've watched Mrs Doubtfire. It's easy to find and right on the corner. We walked over from the Full House House, so they are two that you can visit together. It's really not that far from Fishermans Wharf, just a 5-10 minute bike ride.

If you're visiting the city you absolutely have to stop by here. It looks exactly like it does in the movie. Fans pay tribute to Robin Williams by leaving sweet messages on rocks outside the home.
Not sure if anyone lives here currently but if so, they are very sweet to allow fans to leave flowers and notes.
The house is just a short walk from the Full House house and Alamo Square. -

1 check-inListed in 200 Reviews in 2015, San FranciscoVisiting the Mrs. Doughtfire house is something that any tourist must do when in the area. The house looks slightly different than it did in the movie, and I believe it is just the outside of the house used in the film, but it is a neat thing to see if you are a movie buff, or a fan of Robin Williams.

Very lovely. We visited very briefly because we didn't want to invade the owner of the house, although I'm sure they're quite used to it by now.
There were some rocks surrounding the trees and people had written little notes about Robin Williams which I felt was a sweet little tribute to a great man.
Honestly, there isn't much to see, but the feeling of nostalgia makes it worthwhile.
