The first time I saw Half Baked Cookie Company was from a youtube video that highlighted pies in Vancouver with unique flavors. I saw on their menu that they had chocolate haupia pie. Haupia is one of my favorite Hawaiian desserts, so I knew I had to stop here during my Vancouver trip, despite it being kind of far and out of the way.

I stopped by for a slice and got to talk to one of the owners. He mentioned him & his wife went on a trip to Oahu and tried chocolate haupia pie from a shop in the north shore and knew they had to recreate it for their bakery. I wish it had slightly more coconut flavor but it was overall very delicious and on par with the chocolate haupia pie I tried at Leoda's pie shop in Maui.

I have already been craving for cookies for a while. I have never tried Half Baked Cookies before, so I bought five different flavours from them last Sunday before they closed for their summer break (between August 22-31). They will reopen on September 1.

The Google rating of the bakery is very high! 4.8 stars! That's why I had to try their cookies at least once. I got five flavours: peanut butter, chocolate chips, chocolate, oatmeal and pecans, and toffee butterscotch. All of them tasted excellent! They were very addictive lol I saw their online photos that they used to sell matcha cookies but I didn't see any when I was there. I hope to buy and treat them next time.

All of the cookies tasted great! Of course butter makes cookies great!

The server/owner was very friendly. The bakery has a decent size. They sell cookies, pies, coffee beverages and etc. Their pies are very popular. Probably more popular than their cookies. I should try their pies at least once. I will wait to try them when they reopen in September.

      COVID #16

It's the old expression: glass half empty or half full

      Pessimism versus optimism

So is it half raw or half baked?

      I'd say it's the latter.

      Optimistic.

Optimistic that after you read this, you're coming.

Optimistic that you too will enjoy it

Optimistic that you'll try more than one item.

Optimistic that you'll come for seconds on another visit. I know I am.

Optimistic that you'll be gaining a bit of weight. Pfffffffttttt.....

      (Optimistic) Tasting notes:

Haupia pie. Made famous by Ted's Bakery on Oahu's north shore. Yes, I tried that one too. This (optimistic) one is a bit more coconutty, IMHO. Still very good tho. I'm not aware of any other place in Vancouver that does this pie. Missing Hawaii?? Come here.

Lemon raspberry was my favourite so far.

This is - the little bakery that could!

Located in an outta of the way part of town on the eastside of Vancouver, I was fortunate to have some business to take care of close to this bakery.

The owner was very informative & helpful.

Selected the award winning - Island Time (coconut shortbread crust, topped with exotic passion fruit & creamy coconut custard) & the Chocolate Haupia pie (Hawaiian style pie with dark & milk chocolate, creamy coconut pudding, & topped with fresh whipped cream).

These pies were exquisite, so delicious & fine tasting!!!

Half Baked Cookie Company is a must stop if you're in the area! Well worth the trip!

This is a tiny bakery so I highly recommend you pick up & go.

I will be going back to try the cookies next time!

Please note that pies are rotational & seasonal - so if you're interested in something specific, perhaps call ahead to check on availability!

Delicious food. Tried the cheese scone and it was amazing. Also had the banana cream pie. It was so good. Another good bakery in Vancouver. This place is not far from my house so I'm thrilled to find another good bakery nearby.

We passed Half Baked Cookie Company several times during our stay in East Van. Finally, we decided to stop for a morning bite on our way out of town. I thought the idea of a "microbakery" was so cute - and the interior of the shop is just that. A small case in the front displays a variety of cookies, scones, and pies. A larger kitchen area where all the magic happens is just behind the counter.

Not being from the area, I didn't know anything about the bakery before coming in but soon learned some of their background from the friendly counter person/owner(?).

They have been open for about two and a half years, starting with a home-based business and moving to wholesale. Once they opened their retail location, it did so well that they discontinued the wholesale side of the business. No, they do not bake micro pies and teeny tiny cookies. I was just a tad disappointed about this until I tasted the baked goods I purchased: a light, tasty cheddar/rosemary scone, a crispy coconut cookie, and a decadent millionaire bar featuring a shortbread base topped with dulce de leche and chocolate. Whew! Good stuff!

I wish I hadn't waited until our last day in Vancouver to visit - I would have come back for a slice of their award-winning pie or a London Fog. This will definitely be bookmarked and added to my list of mental favorites for our next visit!

I like this tiny and cute bakery so much. I needed a few minutes to decide..I wish I could have 2 pieces really.

As first timer, I picked banana cream pie. The custard inside was so delicious. The bottom pie crust was very hard and the plastic folk was almost broken. It looked like there was a layer of something(caramel? Something brown) beween custard and pie crust and it got frozen in cold case. When I put into my mouth, it was ok though.

For drink, I had London Fog and already sweeten by vanilla syrup. I should have had just coffee. Too sweet for banana pie.

I've heard of this place for a while and not till this year I decided to give it a try. This place definitely keeps me coming back especially when each week they come up with different flavor pies (they do cycle through some here and there). I've never really been a pie person. But I always have a sweet tooth. The first time I legit walked in wanting a cookie given the name I expected some bomb ass cookies. It lives up to their name. Their cookies as bomb ass good and it keeps be coming back again and again. My favourite ones and strongly suggest others to get is the matcha white chocolate chip cookies and their Malaysian Malt cookie (if you like the malt chocolate you will like this one). The pies that I've tried out here were the matcha cream, london fog, milo and hong kong style milk tea. I love all of them. Yes I went for all custard cream pies. Best in town by far.

The place is small and can be easily missed if you happen to be driving down naniamo street. Due to the pandemic they only allow 1 person in at a time. This could mean a small wait time outside. I don't think I ever waited for more than 10 mins outside. They also don't allow you to take any photos in the store. Parking is all on the street. Lucky for me I live in the neighborhood now so I get to have a nice walk there and back. Makes me feel like i'm working for my treats (feel better to indulged in it after).

Overall, it's one place that keeps me going and I strongly suggest others to try it out. I recently told a friend about it and she lives in Coquitlam. She told me it was totally worth her drive.

Best pies in town! And so cheap! I got a season special, pumpkin haupia, today. Three levels of goodness (pumpkin, coconut custard and pumpkin whipped cream with coconut shavings!!). I've also had chocolate haupia, matcha red bean, espresso cream, Hong Kong milk tea, island time - all of which I loved. The island time is my fave for that summer light refreshing dessert. The crust is always flaky and the filling is like mousse, melts in your mouth. Whatever flavour you get, you will get a concentrated taste of that flavour which is why I love these pies so much. I just found the berries and cream to be a little soggy, probably because it's loaded with fruits on the bottom. Not a fan of shortbread but I've heard they're amazing. I LOVE THE DROP COOKIES. Matcha, butterscotch and oatmeal are all my faves in that order.

Pumpkin haupia. Amazing for coconut and pumpkin lovers
      Oatmeal, Matcha, butterscotch. Freakin delicious
