Such a neat bakery! Everything here looked amazingly delicious. There's some seating both inside and outside and wasn't too crowded on a weekend afternoon.
The Rebel Within ($7) is worth the hype. It's a sausage, green onion, and asiago muffin with a soft boiled egg inside. It also comes with a small vial of pink salt which adds great flavor. One of the most unique and tasty pastries I have tried.
I wouldn't eat here too often because things are on the pricier side but overall I recommend trying The Rebel Within.-

1 check-inListed in Better latte than never!Craftsman and Wolves is a cute and hipster-ish cafe in the Mission that serves breakfast, lunch, bakery items, and coffee. As you stand in line to order, you'll get to check out all the delicious bakery items you can stuff into your mouth after you pay. Seriously, everything looked so drool-worthy!
After you pay, grab a seat at the counter or at the table. It's first come first serve, so when it gets busy, you might have to wait a little! They don't have waiter service, so you'll have to go up to the counter to grab your food and clean up after yourself.
Their Latte ($4) was delicious and very pretty for pictures. Their Warm Salted Butter Caramel with caramelized croissant chips ($4.50) was a delight to drink. It is in a smaller cup, but it comes with two pieces of "chips." The chips were way too sweet for me, so I didn't finish it. But I'm sure it's perfect for someone with a sweet tooth! -

2 check-insI've been to Craftsman and Wolves a handful of times now. Every time I've found it to be totally worth the "hype"--even showing up an hour before they closed and eating (see also: destroying) the last "Rebel Within" in the case was just as delightful as though it had just been baked.
I'm a huge fan of savory scones and muffins, so the Rebel and all its eggy, cheesy glory is pretty much my dream pastry. The side of Himalayan sea salt adds the perfect touch to it (use sparingly, though! It doesn't need much). I don't know how they perfectly cook the egg inside the muffin, but it's pure magic. Voodoo. On its own, the rebel is basically a meal. It paired well with an iced latte (made with Highwire espresso, yum!).
I also tried the fennel salami sandwich on garlic focaccia, another tasty menu item. The bread was perfectly cooked (I just love bread, so I'm biased here).
If you get a chance to try the matcha ginger snickerdoodle, DO IT. Just look for the bright green cookie in the case. It's a bit on the sweeter side, but matched with a cold brew coffee this is a fantastic little dessert.
The service: SO wonderful! These folks are friendly and helpful, despite the chaotic lines that can happen here during busy times. They always offer to warm up the pastries, which I appreciate. Because seriously...is there anything better than a warm pastry? I think not.
The seating: plentiful, and mostly community-style. It can get a little sardine-like in the main area during busy times but that's pretty standard for any place around town. Not recommended for kids or strollers...for the love of god. :)
This has become one of my favorite places to visit in the Mission. Haven't tried their other locations, but looking forward to checking them out. Keep being rad, CAW.-

1 check-in4.5 stars.
I've always heard good things about Craftsman and Wolves, and I finally got around to checking it out. It's pretty spacious inside, with some communal benches / tables. Of course, I had to try the famous rebel within, but I also couldn't resist getting a chocolate ganache kouign amann.
The rebel within - Absolutely delicious! I will love anything with a soft-boiled egg inside. Since I was eating it there, they offered to heat it up for me. The outer muffin was savory, light, and cheesy with bits of ham. The egg inside mine was only slightly runny, which I was okay with since that made it less messy. I saw another group nearby with a few rebel withins though, and it seems like the runniness of the yolk is pretty inconsistent unfortunately... Oh, they also give you a cute little vial of spicy salt to go with it!
Chocolate ganache kouign amann - Paradise. The outer shell is crispy with a thin layer of caramelized sugar, and the layers inside are airy and just the right amount of sweetness. There is only a small amount of chocolate ganache filling in the center though, but the entire thing was great.
It's going to be a struggle to resist coming back here all the time now! -

1 check-inTo me, runny egg yolk is a beautiful thing, so I LOVED the Rebel Within muffin. Admittedly it's pretty pricey at $7.25, but I thought it was worth it for runny egg yolk enthusiasts like myself. The muffin came with a vial of salt (either Tobasco salt or pink Himalayan salt), but I didn't think it was completely necessary with the natural saltiness of the yolk. I saved half of it in the fridge for the next day, and surprisingly it still tasted great cold.
Also tried the hibiscus/lychee mousse/earl grey cookie dessert in the case, which was light but amazingly flavorful and perfectly sweet. SO good!
I'll definitely be back for more cute pastries!-

Listed in My favorite meal: BRUNCH!LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! It is such a cute, little shop in the heart of the Mission and they serve only the most beautiful looking pastries! I came here on a Sunday morning and it was pretty crowded. We stood in line for about 10 mins, but were easily able to find a seat for 2. People are in and out of here fast so I don't think it ever takes too long to find a seat.
We ordered 4 pastries: 2 savory, 2 sweet. We were starving so this was around the right amount for us, but you could get away with just ordering 3 dishes for 2 people if you're not famished.
I can't really decide my favorite, I loved them all! We got the savory tart (carrots & savory kumquats), the quiche, the chocolate ganache Kouign Amann, and a dark chocolate and passion fruit cube cake. My tummy was so happy at the end of the meal and just thinking about it again makes me want to go back!
I do wish the rebel within did not have sausage in the batter, but we don't get everything we want. There still are enough choices if you're vegetarian! I will be back! -

1 check-inListed in Good For BreakfastFinally got to try this place when a friend and I were "bakery hopping" on our day off (we hit Tartine Bakery in the same day hehe). Of course I ordered the famous "Rebel Within" ($7.25). I also got a twice baked croissant ($4) to go to share with the bf later.
I cut into the warm muffin and was welcomed by an oozing yolk... Yes!!! After snapping lots of photos, I finally got to dig in. The asiago, sausage, and green onion muffin was amazeballs. It probably would have been tasty on its own but the soft cooked egg cradled in the middle was the cherry on top of a perfectly baked cake! I also loved the tiny container of red sriracha salt on the side.. I sprinkled most of it on my muffin and it added a small kick to it.
Later when I got back home, I finally got to try the twice baked croissant. It's a rather large size but I pretty much devoured half in seconds. It was cut in half and filled with hazelnuts and dates. It's a bit harder than your average croissant (hence, twice baked), but still delicious. My bf microwaved his half and he said it was really good when warm!
Service was actually less personable than expected (surprisingly I didn't even get a smile... /:), but i'm glad they ask if you want your baked goods heated up or not. Also a yelp tip: check in on yelp for 15% off! -

1 check-inI came here mainly just to try two things:
1. The Rebel Within. ($7.25) (Asiago, sausage, green onion, soft-cooked farm egg. w/ sea salt.)
2. Iced brew coffee. ($4.25)
I love eggs! I love adding eggs to my pizza, rice, noodles, and whatever food is out there. I set my expectation a little to high for this spot. I was a bit disappointed on how my muffin turned out. I imagined it being warm with a savory egg inside but it wasn't. Maybe I just had a bad batch..
Conclusion: I do want to give this spot another try. They also serve many pastries which they are known for. -

1 check-inCame here for brunch and although it's not my traditional idea of a brunch, it was delicious! The restaurant is set up such that you order at the front and the grab a seat for them to bring the food to you. So make sure someone from your group grabs a seat while you get in line to order your food.
Our group got several items to share including the salami foccacia sandwich, the honey ham sandwich, the carrot and cocoa muffin, the Artisan Twist, The Stone, and the dessert cup with hibiscus and lychee as well as a couple of drinks.
The things that stood out to me: the salami foccacia sandwich was pretty good. I liked the crust of the bread. The salami was a little spicy, but nothing bad. I like spicy. The carrot and cocoa muffin was moist and tasty, but in the end, nothing particularly special. The Stone was delicious. Light and soft and had a great taste to it. I definitely recommend this dessert as a fantastic final note to your meal.
The food was great! The prices were a little higher than I would expect for what you get. For a single person, it's about $20 for a fulfilling meal.-

1 check-inNope.
No idea what people are thinking at this place. Is this group delusion?
Had the sipping chocolate - more like water with faint chocolate essence. Not thick, not chocolate. Maybe it's listed as sipping because it's so bad you dont want more than a tiny sip at a time? The marshmallows that came with it were wretched.
The chocolate toast was just overpriced white bread dyed brown. I got no chocolate flavor from it whatsoever. It wouldve been better suited with just butter rather than their weird ginger marmalade concoction (two things I like, but their execution was not good).
The rebel muffin (egg in a cheesy muffin) was good but way overpriced.
The service was lacking. They gave us a number for our table but then said to wait for our drinks. We waited and waited and waited. We sat down when our food came out and the server walked up to us as we were still just standing there. Could they not bring us the drinks? Poor system there. Also, especially pathetic considering the aforementioned chocolate water aspect of the drinks we ultimately got.
We ordered two of the rebel muffins but only one came out. We told the server. I had to walk back up to the register (climbing through the poorly laid out tables) and was told that we'd only paid for one. Well, they WRITE DOWN THE ORDERS. It was clearly written down that we ordered two. In fairness, we did only pay for one, but it was still their mistake. So, I paid for another one and had to wait 5-10 minutes more to finally be able to start eating.
The atmosphere is bad. We got there first thing and it already felt messy and dirty. Like, is it just not ever properly cleaned? It was busy but not overwhelmingly packed in any sort of way that wouldve justified the shabby conditions.
It was also cold. Why was it so cold??
For chocolate go to Dandelion next door.

2 check-insI am in love with this bakery. They have the cutest interior, and delicious bakery goods. Try coming early because they do sell out fast. I had their smoked cheddar, hot pepper Gourge, and the Rebel Within everyone raves about.
I would recommend this bakery over Tartine Bakery. Their display and quality is more attractive plus their lines aren't nearly as long. They also have a tent in the Ferry Building if you're in the area.
Also, if you check in you get 15% off! -

1 check-inListed in Bake me I'm yours....., Favorite Finds in FriscoCraftsman & Wolves! ~ u r always on my mind. u r always on my mind. ~
the talent n creativity behind this ultra cool bakery n café does make them true craftsmen. from the mouth-watering decadent desserts to the pastries n breads ppl come to buy from other cities. (this chick here!) I lust (yes, LUST) after every single yummy item that's sold here.
from the outside, the bakery has the look of a hip modern hangout. its brick walls add a touch of old school charm. when u walk inside the door, u discover the beautiful high ceilings n the aroma of breads n coffee hits u by waves. u r immediately drawn to all the baked goods behind glass n wonder how many u can fit into your stomach without looking like a total pig.
yes, Craftsman & Wolves is a definite hipster hot spot. it's somewhere ppl can come read a book while sipping on a well-made cup of Highwire coffee. I don't consider myself a hipster, yet I still LOVE this bakery/cafe. if I lived in the city, I would choose to come here all the time.
The Rebel Within : some ppl may complain that the price is more than they would pay for an egg n muffin. but come on! it's a 6 min egg cooked INSIDE a muffin. where else can u get this AMAZING item??! its protein plus carbs all in one! it's also very filling n I was pretty full after finishing it.
Spiced Apple Muffin : this is like a muffin packed full of apple n cinnamon flavor. it's also good, but does need some water or coffee to wash it down.
Valrhona Sipping Hot Chocolate : even tho this seemed like a small amount, as u sip the rich chocolate, u feel it's just enough. the housemade marshmallows melted in is adds another layer to it. perfect!-

1 check-inSan Francisco remains a place where you can get the best versions of your favorite food. If your looking for a nice cafe/bakery/coffee shop that is doing something new, I would recommend Craftsman and Wolves.
Setting
- a contemporary setting with communal tables and sparse seating outside
Selection of baked goods
- really awesome selection (and tasty) bakery items. From the rebel (a savory muffin with an egg in the middle) to almond croissants. You will not go hungry
Coffee
- awesome coffee, as you would expect in SF.
Unlike some other places (like Tartine which is also highly rated) I found the line quite tolerable. overall - i'll be back. -

Um. I don't know. Perhaps the Rebel Within is an acquired taste?
We were tourists in San Francisco and dropped by on a weekday around 11:00 AM. No lineup, which was nice. I very badly wanted to try the Rebel Within after seeing pictures on various blogs (I love eggs, and I love muffins - you'd think it would be a perfect match). However, what we received was actually quite cold and very, very dense. I wasn't a fan of the flavour and taste combined, and actually couldn't keep it down. The savoury and the sweet just didn't match in this instance. Sadly, I'll have to pass the next time I'm in San Francisco.
My total for one Rebel Within was pricey (I believe around $5.00 or slightly more than that, if I recall correctly). -

1 check-inWhat a delicious bakery! They make their pastries and and desserts look stylish and classy. The French names of the pastries are a blur to me, but I had a pastry with chocolate ganache and another one with smoked cheddar. I had a coffee to top it all off. It's got a nice ambience and the pastries are not as expensive as you would think. I will definitely be coming back to try the prosciutto twist pastry and I will remember the names of what I eat.

7 check-insHow have I not written a review for this magical place? I have been frequenting this place every time I'm in the Mission - literally, if I didn't have plans to stop by, I somehow find myself wandering into CAW and getting a pastry to go.
"If I can't make it myself, I buy it."
Pretty much my life slogan, and for everything at CAW, give or take a brownie or cup of coffee, I buy it.
From the rebel within (yes that hyped up soft boiled egg in a muffin thing) to the breads, muffins, and fancy cakes/mousses/pieces of heaven, I am one happy customer. I've never been unhappy with a purchase, and every dollar, calorie, and wait in line has been worth it.
Ambiance is nice, except for the occasional scuffle with people at those picnic tables that make it hard to get a seat with your friends... -

2 check-insCraftsman and Wolves is hands-down one of the most innovative, exceptional bakeries in the Bay Area. The thought and attention to detail is truly shown in each and every fabulous baked good they put forth. While I don't come here as often as I'd like (a girl can only eat so much butter and sugar), it is phenomenal every time I come here.
THE HIGHLIGHTS.
+ The Rebel Within (a soft-cooked egg wrapped in sausage baked within a buttery, asiago-topped muffin), a bit heavy but an epic breakfast item
+ Valrhona Chocolate Chip Cookie (intense, rich, and hard to stomach alone, but magnificently done)
+ High Tea (sadly, I think they discontinued this lovely affair, but it was my first, glorious introduction to CAW, and blew me away)
I can't wait to visit their next location, and try more of the fantastic treats behind the minds at Craftsman and Wolves. -

1 check-inListed in SF Food Tour, SF - Sweet Guilty PleasuresThe Rebel Within me wants a rebel within! nomnom.
This is a savory muffin with asiago, sausage, green onion and a soft cooked egged on the inside. I definitely did not expect that! One cut and the yolk comes flowing out. I was pretty impressed with how they are able to make this dish! I did wish they warmed it up a bit, but maybe it's cuz they don't want the egg to cook any longer? They also give you a small side of Tabasco salt with it. I do think it's a little expensive for what it is though. Regardless, I think everyone should try this very creative and delicious savory item at least once. -

Went here for breakfast and was blown away by how yummy everything was.
The Rebel Within was probably one of the most amazing breakfast pastries I have ever eaten in my life. It was a muffin with sausage and onions and an egg baked inside. Super filling. The prosciutto twist was also delicious! Topped off the breakfast with a cup of their drop coffee.
A bit pricey, but so worth it!!! -

1 check-inThe Rebel Within. With a name like that, you don't even have to tell me that this was a muffin bread thing with sausage and a perfectly poached egg inside, because I'm already sold and ready to go pick one of these babies up. So I made my way over, anticipating a perfect balance of egg and bread and sausage in every bite. I came in clutch with the street parking, got in that long line, thought we weren't going to get a table but swooped right when someone left...I was feelin' good! So we ordered a pot of oolong jasmine, some chocolate pastry, sipping chocolate, and my long waited for Rebel Within. My total ended up around 25$ and I thought to myself, okay...not totally unexpected, this better be good though. We waited for our items, a long wait, but again not unexpected since it was busy. We got all our items except my Rebel and they had one sitting on the counter and I asked if it was mine. The cashier said no without bothering to check the receipt. I asked her to check the receipt and she said she did. So I stood there for another 10 minutes while that Rebel went unclaimed and I went back up and a different guy checked that same receipt and it was mine all along -___- Get it together or at the least be a little nicer instead of just trying to shrug me off. I waited all that time for that thing to be warmed up and by this time it was cold. BUT WHATEVER I was still excited. I took a bite of that thing and it was the most unimpressive thing I've ever had. Not only was it unimpressive, but I just didn't like it at all. The concept was cool, but mine was loaded with salt. Like every bite was crazy salty, insanely dry, and above everything just cold. It's not something I would get again. Their chocolate kouign amann was great though! It was soft, flakey, and the chocolate was perfect. The sipping chocolate was also great, it was thick and had just enough sweetness to it. The marshmallows that went with it were so cute! Probably some of the softest marshmallows I've had too.
All in all, not so interested in their Rebel, but I would like to try their other pastries!-
