Before changing owners, I used to eat there quite often. Now, things are a little bit different...
Let's start with the good stuff.
The ambiance, for those of you who haven't been there, is very nice and gives off an authentic Japanese restaurant feel. The interior design, along with the pictures on the wall, add to the authenticity as well. I like how it's very cozy. It's especially nice to eat there on a rainy evening, sitting by the windows and staring out into pitch-black nothingness. Quite a nice feeling~
The service is decent. After being there several times, under the new ownership, I can say that there hasn't been any forgotten orders, as compared to before. So that is a good sign. The waiters/waitresses were responsive, and the orders arrived fairly quickly. They did make an effort to come and refill the hot tea, so that's another plus.
Now here's the not-so-good part.
While their menu size increased, their portion size decreased. The udon (one of my favorites) seemed to have shrunk a little. It wasn't as "rich" as before. Albeit not too thrilled about it, it was still acceptable. I haven't had the sushi since they changed ownership, so I can't comment on that.
On the next two visits, I ordered their Korean cuisine. That was, unfortunately, a little bit disappointing. The side dishes arrived, and I was slightly confused at first. Most of the Korean dishes on the menu offered side dishes. However, we ordered 3 meals, with only one small plate of sides to accompany. On top of that, the selection of the side dishes was minimal, and the potatoes were not cooked thoroughly. Now the main courses. The spicy beef soup wasn't anywhere near impressive or authentic, but the Japchae dish was alright. Overall, not Korean cuisine at its finest.
The price is a bit high, considering the amount of food you are paying for. The bill comes out to about $11-$15 per person, usually. Unless... you order one of those more expensive combos, which can be as expensive as around $18-$20.
Verdict: I think this place offers a nice atmosphere. Overall, food-wise, the Japanese menu seems to be a better choice, as I wouldn't recommend the Korean food here. Suga is only an option if you are close by, living on campus, etc. Can't say I love this place. I've had better.
