I love the little individual thin crust pizza's here, but I hate the crowds and service on Friday's and Saturday's after 6pm.  I'm not sure about how busy they are at any other time.  For me, it's not worth driving out to Ossington Ave from Lakeshore and Bathurst when you get in the mood for their pizza with the uncertainty of how it will all play out.

This is the advice I got, but won't take:  Go earlier than you are plan to eat (about an hour or so), and to get your name on the waiting list. Then go over to Salt or one of the pubs in the area order a drink and relax. Libretto's will call your cell as soon as your table is ready.

Really?!  That sounds like a plan if you want to squander your money and productive hours away doing something you can do for free at home, all the while waiting to eat pizza.  I live in Toronto, not New York.  New Yorker's indulge in this weekend past time all the time, and think nothing of blowing $300 on food a drinks before making it to the club to blow another $300 on drinks.  I've been there, and done that...so no thanks.

Update: April 4, 2012

Tiffany's on Bloor St. W. was very gracious about my complaint.  I saw all the complaints online about the Somerset mesh designs by Tiffany and knew that I didn't want that particular product anymore (as beautiful as it is).

I met with Jessica today at the store and both she and Natasha helped me find a pendant and necklace I loved, AND I was given the new necklace and pendant as an exchange at the full value of the 3 yr old product!

Can't get much better than that.  My faith in great customer service, and Tiffany & Co. as a brand has been restored.

This review of Tiffany's jewelry is long overdue.  Three years ago, my significant other and I went into Tiffany and I chose a mesh pendant with diamonds and an accompanying necklace as my birthday present.  The total cost was about $850.00.  I have worn that pendant probably about 8 times, and each time I have had to have it professionally polished at Tiffany's because I am unable to get the tarnished brown look  out at home using regular silver jewelry polish.  Not only is the mesh pendant tarnished looking after every wear, but it also has a darkened, uneven colouring to it.

Check out my pendant after a recent cleaning and one wear: http://goo.gl/83bDX

The internet is littered with people who have purchased Tiffany jewelry and are unable to clean and polish it themselves.  Strange.  After spending so much money on an item of silver one would expect to be able to take care of it without always having to be inconvenienced taking it in for cleanings (they are not always free).

The cleanings for this pendant at Tiffany's takes an hour.  They say they are ultrasonically cleaning it, and maybe they are polishing it too.  Who knows.  I get a different story every time; including my skin reacting with the high silver content and altering the colour, the amount of nickel vs. silver...blah, blah, blah.  I don't care.  I should be able to wear the pendant several times without having to professionally polish it.  End of story.  Anything less is cheaply made jewelry.  Tiffany's quality control department should get their act together, as well as their social media department.  I'm not the only one complaining about expensive jewelry that functions worse than costume knick knacks.

Perhaps they should give me my own high grade ultrasonic machine, and high grade silver polish so that I can clean their pendant myself after every wear.  None of my other silver jewelry (purchased from other sources) requires such exhausting efforts.

Either that or buy this pendant back from me at full price Tiffany!

Went here for their Groupon $99 deal.  That is six 5 minute laser hair removal sessions for $99.  Of course the hair removal sessions were spread over 6 months.  After the last session, the female attendant burned me slightly, and even after all of that time and patience, only about 75% of the hair growth has been reduced.

Glad I didn't pay more.  Obviously laser hair removal requires much more time and effort in the goal of ridding oneself of unwanted hair.  However, you wouldn't know that with the information you get from the people who work at Bellair.  They encourage you to keep coming, and attempt to pressure you into more ridiculous deals, such as 3 body parts at a time for six sessions at $400 or more.

If the laser treatment didn't completely work at $99, why would I want to pay $400?
Do your research and skip over this place.

I've eaten and ordered from the Host at the Prince Arthur location many dozens of times, however tonight's food was a unpalatable mess.
We ordered through Orderit Canada, and what arrived was the food you would expect from a strip mall buffet: Kesri Pillaw (boring yellow coloured rice), Tandoori Murg Chicken (red brushed chicken with no flavor what-so-ever), Khandani Nan (doughy tasteless flatbread), and Lamb Roganjosh (a thin, unsavoury curry sauce lacking in the right balance of sweet and salty spices).

We called Order It to complain, and The Host as well. Incredibly, the manager - Indrani said that she hears about these horrible complaints "everyday"! She also said that we should complain about it on dining sites so that the owner wakes up to the cheap Indian labour that he is hiring.

An expensive waste of money on what use to be one of Toronto's best quality Indian restaurants.

Chefydrew's International Cuisine

Went here to eat tonight after reading some of the reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon.  I am from the Caribbean and have a hankering for good oxtail and jerk chicken once in a while that is not by my own hands or that of my kinfolk.

Chefydrew's does not satisfy the palate.  My companion had the lukewarm oxtail and it was just ok.  Missing was the cloves and pimento for added taste, slow cooking till the meat fell off the bone, and the butterbeans near the end for finish.  There was no love put into the oxtail.

My jerk chicken didn't fare any better.  Again, lukewarm chicken drowned in a spicy sauce.  The same jerk sauce you can buy at any grocer and cover your baked chicken with at home.

The rice and peas were "brown rice and three peas", then an assortment of brightly coloured vegetables on the side.

Even the introductory garlic bread that Chef Drew himself raved about and gave us was lackluster and I wasn't inclined to have more than a few bites.  After all,  I didn't go there for garlic bread.

Overall, a good place to eat if you don't know any better, but we are STILL on the hunt for a restaurant that serves awesome oxtail, and jerk chicken under one roof.

Bianchi Brothers Auto Body Ltd

Update - 1/23/2012
So I had my car's rear bumper replaced by Umberto Bianchi just a few days ago under insurance.  I have to say Umberto was quite the aggravator.  What was supposed to be a simple matter of either repairing, or replacing the part, became something else.  Umberto was supposed to liaison with the Adjuster to get the ok to do whatever work was necessary, instead he kept calling me and asking me what I wanted to do?!!!

Having discussed what I wanted to do several times with him already, I was not sure what the guy was getting at.  Ideally, I wanted to have a OEM bumper installed if the original could not be repaired.  From what I was able to deduce, he broke the brackets taking off my original bumper to repair it, and then he could not put it back on safely.  So apparently that's why he kept asking me what I wanted to do without admitting to being at fault.  Was I was supposed to dig into my pockets to pay for his error?  I decided to ignore him for the three days he kept calling and leaving messages, and had my broker refer him to the Adjuster's supervisor.  In the end a new OEM was put on at no cost to me, and my car was in the Bianchi Bros. shop for five days (while I drove an insurance covered rental).

Not only that, but the space that my car was being serviced at some point something was pressing into my driver's side door and created two small holes in alignment in the paint.  The irony of this is that it happens after I've had my BMW for almost 4 years and gone out of my way to avoid door dings by parking behind God's back!

Overall, Umberto Bianchi talks like a pro (and talk he does... he's unnecessarily pretentious about the crap he knows), but behaves much the opposite.  I wouldn't recommend taking your car to this place unless you like to deal with uomini stupidi.

Umberto was very good in explaining his estimate of my vehicle's bumper damage.  Whatever the customer chooses in terms of paying for the work done, one thing is true...they can't say that the choice they made was in ignorance.

See my updated experience with this ridiculous man and his business.

Ate at this Yorkville sushi joint this evening.  We made reservations early, arrived on time and were seated promptly.  However, we waited 15 minutes before we had anything to drink, or were served.  At the point we were finally served we just ordered everything at once.

Pros: great "ninja roll" - absolutely delicious.

Cons: too small of an establishment with a busy, pretentious crowd
           overcooked teriyaki salmon and chicken
           poor, inconsistent service

We are not very likely to go back here to eat at all, unless we go for lunch and only order the sushi or sashimi.

Update - 11/6/2011
Ok so, I drove my car out to Mississauga on the QEW, 427, and 401 today.  Now at speeds between 115km - 120km and over 130km, the steering wheel, and the floor boards at times are vibrating!  I don't intentionally speed for no reason, but on a stretch of highway with no cars late at night I felt I had to put the car to the test.  These mechanics at Active Green & Ross have no idea how to balance the tires on a BMW properly.  I had these same tires on my car last winter put on at Active Green and Ross on Dufferin and the car performed just fine.  Now I will have to go to my BMW dealer to get it done correctly.  I want a refund from the Active Green and Ross on Kipling!
---------------
UPDATE Nov 7 2011.  Soooo, wrote an email that got sent to the owner of the store, and he was pleasant over the telephone.  He listened to my car's symptoms and agreed it was a wheel balancing issue.  He will be mailing a refund to me.  Now I can use that refund to have my BMW dealer balance my tires for $149 + tax.   Sheeesh!
---------------
UPDATE Nov 11 2011.  Went to my BMW dealer, and they determined that the problem with the steering wheel vibration had to do with the "spacers' that came with my winter rims NOT being installed.  I called Active Green & Ross and asked about the missing spacers.  After a back and forth telephone banter, I realized that the spacers were given to me in a little box by Active when they switched out my winter for summer tires.  I alerted the BMW dealer that the spacers were in a small box in my trunk.  While the rims and tires were now being properly installed with the spacers, I received a call back from the owner of the Active shop.  He said he was sorry about my spacers, and that some guy who had put on my rims forgot to install them, and still didn't seem to know that they were missing when I came back the second time for what everyone thought was a wheel balancing issue.  So the owner fired him on the spot and then asked me if that made me happy?!

Seriously?!  That just goes to show that all kinds of Tom's, Dick's and Harry's can work on your car without knowing WTF they are doing.  Your life is literally in their hands!

Long story short.  I left the BMW dealer with my winter tires and rims properly installed, plus a free car wash for a bill and a half, got the Active refund of $50, and now my car handles like gold.

    11/4/2011 First to Review

I've used these guy at this location to switch out my winter tires to summer without incident.  They charge $80 a season to store the tires, also no problem.  So imagine my surprise when I went back to have my summer tires changed to winter.  They weren't busy the first time, but had me book an appointment for 2 hours later anyway.  So I went back had the tires changed, and balanced (or so I thought).

They charged me for the balancing, but never did it.  I realized that after I got on the highway, and was doing over 100km in my BMW.  I felt my steering wheeling wobbling and vibrating to no end.

I booked an appointment a week later (only time I had available) and they finally did their job, and balanced my tires.  For my troubles the dude at the cash register gave me $20 off the next time I come in for them to do a another shoddy job.

Imagine if they did this with everyone.  They would have no business.  So really, since I'm a woman I kind of feel targeted.

I've got my eye on them now.

Went to the self-check out lane at the Metro in Liberty Village at 11pm. There is a person who stays on as an inspector of sorts to guide you through and help you with your inevitable mistakes (or attempts to get free stuff).  It's one person to about 4 self-checkout stations.  We had a lot of items, and there weren't many people, so as novices we decided to have "fun" with the self-checkout.

What ghastly experience!  The automated female voice and the weight scale were asynchronous at times, and led to a lot of annoying moments.  We missed out on the opportunity to get more savings on our fancy breads, because we didn't tear off and scan the $1.00 off coupon.  On top of our self service, we were still charged for all the bags used, and had no discounts for next time for our free scanning and bagging.

So tell me what is the point in self-checkout?  If you had one or two items I can see it being faster or even more efficient.  However, where are the incentives to serving yourself?  No discounts, no coupons, no free bags?  As well, I have a sneaking suspicion that Metro will eliminate the express check out person (and other cashiers) until there is only a couple if this proves to be a successful endeavor.

Don't use self-check out unless you like to serve yourself in public places and still get charged for it.

Copacabana Brazilian Steakhouse

My girlfriend and I ate here on a Thursday evening last week.  Not terribly busy, and the weather was great, so we sat outdoors.  From our vantage point we could clearly see the aged cover band on the stage playing a variety of forgettable tunes. When the live DJ started spinning soulful housemusic, the evening got better.  As a matter of fact "Boris" the DJ (who I ended up knowing) made the experience at this place bearable.

We went for the food, and what we got $150 later (food, alcoholic drinks, and tip) was the memories of delicious slices of picanha off the skewer, and little else.  The salad bar was large, but had wilted lettuce in the salads, and creamy stuff in most of the other items.  When it was time for the meat, most of the cuts of meat we tried were either overdone, lacking flavor, or just weird (cheese dripping through a hunk of beef was just gross).  One round of picanha steak was medium rare and tasted "off", so we left the unpalatable offender alone.  The manager came to ask us about it, but she didn't do much to rectify the situation, and we never heard complaints from the other patrons with seemingly insatiable appetites.

We had a much tastier experience at Copacabana in Toronto last year.  Same owner I hear, so if they are reading this, they really need to get their food act together. Torontonian's are much more demanding when it comes to gastronomic delights, and they won't hesitate to use social media to tell about sub-par experiences.  Oh, and bring Boris to DJ in Toronto as well!
