tried the AYCE finally on a monday.. it was just OK but a great deal nonetheless.  very greasy but prepared well.  i think they said it was pollock as the AYCE special which didn't taste the greatest. will have to try the halibut though one day.  the chips were good though!  also had a small order of coleslaw which was deelish as well.  great value since it also includes a pop for just under $10.

didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised!

felt like i was transported for sure once walking through the doors and into the dining room.  its decked out a la middle eastern flare.  they have high and low seating.. ie more on the floor.. or normal height.. me and my friend also sat on the same side of the table which was more of a bench vs. the other side which is basically a tree stump chair.. u'll know what i mean when u see it!  lol

the menu can be broken up into 4 main categories.. the 'all you can eat option' for $18.. the tapas section.. the roti (wraps) section.. and shakes and desserts.

we originally came in thinking we'd try the wraps but then went for the $18 option upon recommendation of our server.  it comes as a meal with your choice of any 2 options (about 10 meat and veggie options to choose from) and roti and a bunch of other sauces, rice, salad, etc.  the great thing is when you are done you can have any more of anything you already had, or try anything else off the list of options.  so its a great way to try a bunch of diff things off their menu!

i had the lamb and the chicken masala.  both tasted great and the chicken masala was like a variation of butter chicken (but not as good).  i also tried some 'peas and cheese' (similar to the indian dish called mutter paneer) which was also amazing.  for that price i definitely thought it was a great value and worth the cost cuz you could eat until you were stuffed and try so many diff things.  and its better than an actual buffet cuz it all gets served to you!

one annoying thing was the sound of the blender going off every 5 minutes for when they made shakes at the front of the restaurant (they also have a strong takeout business it seemed).  also the bathroom is in the side hallway past the dishwasher folk.

will come back to try the wraps or have them as takeout for sure!

Solly, but i have to say that your cinnamon buns are amazing!  definitely some of the best in town!  they are about $2.85 each and you can get a side of cream cheese frosting for an extra $1.25.. and if you buy 6, its no HST.. so 6 came to just under $25.  prolly not something ur gonna spend the moola on everyday but definitely worth indulging in once in a while ;)

will have to come back for some of the other great goods they offer such as the bagels and some breakfast options.

a must visit for anyone with a raging sweet tooth!

be forewarned that the prices for some things can be relatively high though but worth it once in a while.

their chocolate desserts were divine.. one comes as a 'cadeau' so basically looks like a chocolate present wrapped in chocolate.. u gotta see it to believe it!  their triple chocolate mousse cake was pretty awesome as well.

got a vanilla macaron as well and it was the best i've ever tasted so far.. would definitely come back for those.

i also had a latte which was really good.

great dessert place surrounded by some good restaurants (Kobe, Coast and Italian Kitchen are all nearby on the same street)

All hail to the Kingyo!

really good place for Japanese tapas.. serving you great food the likes of what's served up at Guu and Hapa

some faves: pork belly, ebi mayo and the boneless wings that come with 3 diff salts from around the world!

wasn't a big fan of their bowls

reasonably priced food that is delicious if you find yourself on denman st.. its close to true confections if you fancy yourself some good dessert after.

Guy Fieri has eaten at Jethro's.. and now so have I!  It was on his recent DDD visit to Van.  His 'autograph' actually adorns the wall close to the wall above the entrance.

The place is located on Dunbar and 16th.. got parking right in front on a monday morning which was sweet.. they are open 7 days a week which is another plus.  We came at a sweet spot for timing.. around 945-10am.. cuz after about 10 min there was a lineup out the door!  there's not a lot of seats in there but totally worth the wait if there is a line!

I got the La Nina bennies which come with hashbrowns.  I also ordered a side of Chorizo sausage which was just astounding and bursting with flavour.  Jethro's lost its 5th star cuz the poached eggs were overcooked and the yolk didn't spill out onto the plate as expected.  Otherwise the tex mex chilli in the benny and the corn cake it was sitting on were all diviiiiine!

also on the table was a Papa's Benedict which kinda disappointed and was bland.. there was an expectation of maybe sour cream and bacon bits as it did tout itself as a 'Potato Skin' benny.

Drinks and food were 'cheap' for the quality you get!  Total bill for 2 bevvies, 2 plates of bennies and a side of chorizo sausage was about $30 plus tax and tip.

Other folks' food that I spied, including the pancakes for instance, looked eye-popping good too!  i'll be back for sure!

came here for a Bday.. we had the entire section to the left when you walk in the front door.. so literally near the entrance.. wasn't bad to get in and out quick..

the concept of this place is that its a supper club.. don't see too many out this way compared to in the east, i.e. Montreal for example.. so basically you have dinner and then at night it turns into a 'club'.. the restaurant opening was actually featured on the show The Opener on the Food Network..

kinda looked over the menu and nothing looked great on there and it seemed overpriced.. also saw what a few other ppl had ordered and weren't that impressed.. so me and a friend went right to having drinks..

all the shots were really good.. i liked their take on the King Kong and Superman shots..

so eventually they started clearing all the tables out of the entire restaurant.. they had a DJ that had been spinning all nite.. he started his set with a lot of 80s music.. there was actually a stagette there that nite dressed in 80s swag so it was quite fitting.. altho the inebriated bday boy wasn't enjoying it and kept asking the DJ to step it up a few decades.. eventually he played the good stuff and it ended up being a really fun nite

friend had a bought a groupon for this place.. supposed to be 3 courses for 2 and a bottle of wine.. reg 90 something, for $50

had always been curious about this place so was excited about finally trying it out

it was totally dead on a monday nite.. we were the first ones to arrive for dinner.. other than us only 2 other pairs came in after us the entire time we were there.. because we had first dibs we took the table up front by the window

the funny thing was people kept walking by and sticking their hand in the fire thats just outside the window.. so the ppl watching aspect was entertaining

k so back to the meal.. i think they totally effed up.. they served us some other groupon type special.. the Hero deal or something?  so basically we got a 3-4 course tasting menu that normally costs $55.. and we shared THAT between 2 people.. i think we also got some bread which we paid extra for and maybe some drinks.. so i paid an extra 30-40 bucks or so for tip and extras.  so 80-90 something total all said and done.. but wait i thought we had a groupon??  which is supposed to give us a deal and not just be reg price??  we ended up paying whatever all the stuff was normally worth and they treated it like more of a gift card.  we also didn't get our bottle of wine!  me and friend didn't figure all this out til afterwards.. total 'blonde' moment.. but figured ah well anyways.  i would never come back here to pay regular price again.. nothing there is 'worth it'.

the portions were incredibly tiny as you can guess.. and to split that meal between 2 people we were unshockingly still hungry after and popped into earl's yaletown afterwards.. lol..

overall a dissapointment
