Zellers

Generally a 3.5 Star experience but they carry Pizza Pockets in their freezer section so that gets them the extra half star!

For years I was a single mom.  For a growing family, and a limited budget you need to be able to have less expensive options, but not necessarily cheaper quality, otherwise you're rebuying items before they grow out of them.  Zellers always gave me those options for the kids from underwear to outerwear.  And shoes.   Housewear, toys, electronics, groceries and a Restaurant!

Ultimately you are going to have an experience where you go to Zellers and not find a single thing that you want or need on that day.  It happens.  But most of the time, you will go in and find what you want and at a really great price.  Recently there have been some great sales on womens wear with additional markdowns on items already on sale.

And don't forget the Pizza Pockets.  mmmmm!

The Sony Store

Perhaps the key to shopping for electronics, so that you don't feel like the sales people are inundating you with information, is to have done some research prior to your visit, so that you have some of your own information and a bit of a clue what you are looking for.  If you are just browsing or unsure of what you want or need, the sales process can undoubtedly seem a bit overwhelming.

Last time we went out looking for a new TV, this is what we'd done before hand.  We considered the size, our needs, our wants, our budget and tried to narrow it down to some specifics.  We looked at some other shops were we could also compare different brands for price and quality and ultimately had decided to go with Sony brand.  So we went straight to the source.

We told the sales person what we were interested in.  He asked us some great questions which helped narrow things down even more and in quite short order we'd settled on a model.   Offers for peripherals were made, but in a helpful and friendly way; not a sell.   If only I could make such easy and great decisions about the things that I eat, I'd be a zero-stress lady.   At least I have something lovely to look at to watch movies, tv, or play some video games.  I can even hook my computer up to when I need a big screen for photo or video work!!!

So near and yet so far!!! Close to Highway 1 @ First Avenue, and close to Boundary Road.  Yet seems like it is in its own remote little corner of Kootenay St, tucked in behind the new Vancouver Police station, car dealerships, and primarily industrial space.  A lovely and very large newer building; it is bright and sparkling and  well stocked.

Some say their sandwiches are the best thing since sliced bread.

Some say they carry meats and cheeses and other grocery items that you will find no where else in Vancouver, or certainly not this caliber!!!

I think it is a great place to go on adventure, or find some special ingredients from time to time.  Bring cash or debit.  They accept no credit.

Very clean and well organised.  Nicely decorated - it almost feels like it is part of a chain, but I don't believe it is.  Run well.

Decent food.  They are fast with the coffee in the morning and that's important.  Thus far, we've only had breakfasts at this place.  Lunch and dinner still on the to-do list.

Wait staff is experienced.  A-OK for a meal to start the day.

A brilliant butcher shop that has been around forever.

We generally get smaller orders because there's just two of us and we don't have a lot of freezer space.  We have been considering getting something that would provide us with more freezer room, but that's another review.

Anything you need for any type or style of meat, you will be sure to find something here.  Fresh, tasty, and reasonably priced.  Service is great and very quick.

Burger craving hit me big time after viewing one of MarcD's photos recently.  You know those cravings?  The one where you are so sure that the hunger will consume you from the inside and turn you inside out unless you get a big juicy meaty cheesy burger soon?  That kind of craving.  Yah.  So rather than implode and turn in on my self like a dying quasar, I called up Burger etc for a take-out order.

It was delicious.  Every part of it was tasty and full of flavour and apart from the fact that I almost dislocated my jaw eating the gigantic thing, it was perfect.

Macaroni salad was very nice.  Egg-y and creamy with just the right amount, and size of veggies.  I"m glad I decided to try this today.  The cheeseburger platter is a great meal.  (Pic:  http://www.yelp.co.uk/... )

Used this service several times in the past few weeks for trips that originated in Burnaby.  Seems like no one wants to pick you up in Burnaby except for Bonny's unless you have a corporate account.  Too bad.  Not that I had any affiliation with any Vancouver based cab companies but it was frustrating calling some of the bigger names and finding out they weren't available even though I am 1 (ONE) mere block from Boundary on the Burnaby side.

The first few rides were scheduled pick ups.   Called the dispatch, she was friendly and receptive and professional. Cabs arrived as scheduled.  YAY!    The final time was a last minute call and the cab arrived so quickly that I received a phone call to say it was at the door  and had to scramble even more to be ready.

Decent service.  I will continue to call them when I need a cab in Burnaby and I might even see if I can arrange Vancouver service as well as it seems like cab service in the Lower Mainland is a crapshoot and a potential for disaster.  I'd rather avoid mixing diaster and moving vehicles whenever possible.

Thanks Bonny's!!!!

Kal Tire

Threats of a Snowmagedon sent me and half of the City of Vancouver on a quest to replace tires that were questionable.  Points to Kal Tire for accommodating me during such a busy time.

I've been to this location before to work on a tire that had a slow leak.  But I don't know if you could call me a customer at that point,  because they wouldn't let me pay.  That's right - THEY FIXED IT FOR FREE!!!  I hadn't purchased the tires there, so there was no reason for them to do so other than an extreme measure of goodwill, which is rare to unheard of these days in businesses.  So points for that, as it definitely made me interested in bringing my car here to purchase replacements.

They gave me the informed sell, not a hard sell or an up sell, but they definitely wanted me to be well informed about their products and services so that I could make the best decision.  I'm now the happy owner of some lovely Nokian All Weather Tires.  I'm confident that these tires will take me on some great adventures throughout the province.  And they will also mean I'm safe on my travels around town during the approaching Snowpocalypse!!!!

A lovely and intimate theatre.  I wouldn't say there is a bad seat in the house.  Everyone has a great view, even the balcony seats.  Only downside to the arrangement is if you are in the balcony, and the person in the row behind you isn't careful with their legs, you might get kicked in the head.

It was my first visit to The Cultch.  It was much smaller than I'd anticipated, but in the theatre world, this isn't a bad thing. The production we saw wasn't the greatest, but that isn't the theatre's fault.  I'm eager to return to The Cultch for other offerings in the future.
