Thai Son Restaurant

Neighbourhood: Mount Pleasant
My Answer is YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that some people may turn to it for a cheap meal, filled with msg, and good meat to compliment, but I love the texture of the noodles, the richness of the broth, the ability to load my bowl up with bean sprouts, and the sarachi and hoisin sauce I can drizzle to add additional flavours. It happened to be pretty chilly last Sunday and it seemed like everyone had been out golfing for a chilly 4 hours... so I suggest Pho :)
Going to Thai Son - I knew to check out the House Special Pho because it is on the LIST!~
Vancouver's 101 Best Eats Before you Die:
Item: House Special Pho
Contents: a good portion of noodles with a variety of meat including: raw beef, brisket, tendon, beef balls, and flank. It was definitely more than I had expected, but that didn't stop me. The noodles were soft but not overdone, I just couldn't stop eating!
Cost: $5.95 for Small, $6.75 for Large, Cash Only!
Broth: Super tasty, very rich, and very satisfying. Definitely warmed my tummy right up!
Service was minimal, and tea was definitely not hot enough, but I came for the pho and I got good pho!

Sad to say that when she found a strand of hair on her first bite of her scoop, it went downhill. Appetite was lost, didn't want to get it replaced and I felt terrible. Knowing that their gelato is made in house, I'm wondering what type of food and safety procedures they follow.
On a side note, I saw that they had maple loose leaf tea so I got a tea latte, which was quite pleasant. The flavour of the tea was not overpowering with nice hints of maple with each gulp. A downer was that they did not have anything tied to the full leaf tea bag and a popsicle stick was inserted through, while the cup lid could not go on top...
All in all - I wasn't too impressed. I would like to come back, but don't think this experience will be forgotten.

I was not sure what to expect when I walked into this place..... never have eaten Himalayan before. The place was empty, but slowly started to fill up. Hearing about the Momo's (no, not the one that Homer wears), I was surprised that they looked exactly like Xiao Long Bao! In fact, Momo's by definition: Steamed dumplings with a savory filling of your choice of vegetable or pork, served with tomato and cilantro chutney. Not soupy inside, but I really enjoyed dipping it into the sweet and hot sauces.
We also got the large sharing plate with vegetables, which came with daal (lentil puree), steamed rice, and roti. It may not have looked like a lot, but believe me, it was. We just kept eating and eating, but it didn't feel heavy because there was no milk products in it. We scarfed down every single bite, and I was quite pleased.
I can't say I'd come back again, even though I have tonnes of meatless meals, but I'm glad I checked this place out.

Salathai Thai Restaurant

However, I am telling you that this place is actually good! I've been here for dinner previously and the food is quite authentic. This time, I came for lunch and I was very impressed with how large the lunch menu was. Prices are around $10.00 and there is something for everyone. I ordered the sweet and sour fish, which came with rice and tom yum soup. It was super sour... not exactly my thing, but definitely had the right ingredients and flavours.
My sol (fish) was pan fried with a nice crush. The sauce was very typical, yet tasty and the veggies were made just right, with a good crunch to them, not soggy or overdone.
Service was okay........ but it was lunch period and the place was busy... there are lots of tables, but they take reservations. I would recommend this place if anyone wants some decent thai food!

The flavours didn't seem too out of the ordinary and the person helping really did not seem like she was willing to help, although she stayed patient and I felt bad for wanting to try the different flavours.
The flavours I tried included: Tahitian Vanilla - really, nothing out of the ordinary, Espresso - tasted just like it, Lemon-lime basil - as much as I love basil.. it was way too overpowering, and rum-raisin, which I ended up choosing. I like the texture of the raisin, and the rum brought out nice flavours, but I wasn't WOWed over the top.
My honest opinion - Yaletown Gelato is still better.

Romer's Burger Bar

Our burgers took a very very long time to come out, maybe because some of us got appetizers, so that is understanable. The drinks looked awesome as the mojito was large, and the beers were cheap (with a large selection too)!
Between all of us, there was definitely a huge vote towards the magic mushroom and the short rib burger. When it came out, I was indeed impressed. Although quality is definitely more important than quantity, the burger was excessively large. If it was 3/4 the size with a top quality burger, I would still be just as satisfied. The amount of mushroom was lovely and there was a good texture to it. I felt that I had a tad less brison cheese than some of my other friends who got it but it was still creamy and satisfying. The brioche was soft and greasy and my only complaint was that the beef seemed a little crumbly. Not sure that is supposed to the texture I should be getting.
We got some truffled oil fries, which were okay, as I have received better and stronger flavoured ones elsewhere. The sea salt fries were prominent, and in my opinion better. The portion was not as large as I have previously read from other reviews so I was a tad disappointed.
Overall, I was still happy with my burger and I would definitely be back trying another delicacy.

But here's the thing - they serve GOOD food.. great food I would say and at completely reasonable prices, not to mention the free music / water show across the street.
We were able to make reservations for 9:30 after the Chris Angel show at the luxor, and although the patio is first come first serve, it happened to open up before our inside dining room table was ready. The waitress was patient, polite and helpful. We all got a great view of the bellagio which was breathtaking.
I ordered the salmon that came with a bed of orzo. The portion was extremely large and the salmon was cooked beautifully. The orzo was well seasoned and I enjoyed every last bite. Watching my friends - their dishes were huge, including the size of mussels which looked like they had doubled in regular size. The fries ordered were unique, skinny and flat, something I've never tried before.
No one's bank was broken after this as prices ranged anywhere from $ 15 - $25 dollars.. and a bit more expensive for the dishes that were out of the ordinary. Everyone was completely satisfied and the hot heat just made it a perfect night to site outside.
I know people who have rituals to eat here everytime they come to Vegas. I would like to start this tradition myself the next time I come back!
Loved their variety of bagels and since i can never make up my mind, I just chose the mish mash, to complement my regular eggel. Served fresh and hot, the egg seemed a little overcooked, but I was very happy with the cheesiness and paprika added. My mish mash bagel had loads of different flavours, with the onion being the most prominent, but I didn't mind. You may not think that the bagel is very filling, but beware.... you will get full!
Bough an apple strudel slice to take home and was very happy with the overall quality and the amount of filling. The crust was not overly thick and the apples were tart and just the amount of ripeness, while still holding crunch to them. Not too too sweet and I enjoyed every single bite of this delicious dessert.
Now that Im part of the Eggel lover's club (stamps for ordering eggels), I will be back for more!!!!

Remember from the Seinfeld episode when Jerry wasn't able to get the last Babka... and then everyone else was eating them!?!?!
... sorry I don't think I saw that episode but my bf was kind enough to tell me and it definitely seemed funny!... and the only reason we got the Babka is because he remembers the show but has never seen one. However, looking at a chocolate covered cinnamon bun, how can you refuse? Served on a warm plate, I indulged in this rich and buttery pastry. The chocolate was rich and made its way inside all the crevices.
And lucky for me.. I was finally able to try:
101 Things to Try in Vancouver Before you Die:
Item: Solly's Kosher Pickle
Cost: $1.00
One juicy pickle that you can select, in a garlicky brine - who knows how long it has been sitting in there but the pickle was crunchy and oh so juicy. Although I'm not a big fan of pickles, I must say this was pretty good. I think if you pair it with a smoked meat sandwich, it would be the perfect meal!

At 12:30, we were seated in a half full restaurant, watching one server do all the work. She did good considering she was running back and forth taking orders, serving food and all the little tasks in between. I decided to stick with what was a popular pork curry. It came with a salad that was loaded with a little too much dressing (reminded me to thousand island).
When the mains came out, I was overwhelmed with how much I was getting. On a large oval plate - half of it was consumed with white rice, with the pork cutlet on top, while the other half was the curry - rich, buttery, savoury curry. It was soooo delicioussssssssss. The creaminess of the curry mixed with the rice was pure satisfaction.
With the portions that were presented - I packed up the rest and got an extra meal out of it.... what a bonus! I can't wait to come back again!

Not going to lie, the shell was too hard, and over chewy. I didn't like it. I pretty much opened the shell and licked the jam off it and that was it.
Reminded me of the macarons I wouldn't want to share with my friends because they just didn't turn out. Luckily, I have supportive friends who will eat and give me constructive criticism... and I don't charge them.
