I was pleasantly surprised to see this room after a few weeks staying at Hilton Garden Inns and Hampton Inns.  I'd highly recommend it, and the location is awesome - you can be most places in the city in 15 min, but more importantly, it's only a 5 min drive from the airport (especially handy when Air Canada delays your evening flight so it almost becomes a morning flight...).  I like how big the rooms are, and loved the 7th floor east-facing room to watch the sunrise (but they have great blackout drapes that actually overlap so it's not like some hotels where you still get the sliver of annoyance, i.e. light).  The hotel overlooks Circle drive but you can't hear the road at all.

I'd definitely stay here again when I'm next in Saskatoon.

it's not bad. the entry area is nice - with a good fireplace, and the breakfast is good.  The parking is safe and I really appreciate that they changed the elevators to require a key when you want to go to your floor - as a single woman traveller, this is awesome.
However, I wasn't a fan of the old decor, with a couch that had seen better days, and a desk chair that has seen so many seated at it that it had lost most of its padding.

The sheets and the room were some of the cleanest I've seen in a while, so it balances out.

As for the area, I lived 5 blocks from here for two years and never, ever had an issue with safety. In fact, it's probably one of the safest areas to be in, in Calgary.

The Beechwood is on par with any Fairmont resort.  Exceptionally clean rooms, great linens & toiletries, good amenities, and the location is hard to beat if you are in Worchester on business. I've been here for two separate business trips and have not been disappointed.

The in-room computer system? genius! They have a decent hotel business centre that is well stocked so you can print out your boarding passes for the plane before you leave.  It's the little things that really make it worthwhile to stay here!

I wanted to love this place. I've eaten here each time I've stayed at the Beechwood, mainly because it's a food desert outside if you don't have a car, and why go outside when it's cold?
While the food is done well, it is definitely not cheap. This is food made for an expense budget.  You know, the one where you eat the free hotel breakfast, scarf down a sandwich for lunch, and blow it all on dinner.

It's never been busy in here the three times I've had dinner here, and breakfast is definitely never busy either (the continental setup that comes with the Beechwood stay is ok; I've not tried the other made-to-order items).  In fact, I've been here for dinner twice where I was the only guest having dinner - and it was dinnertime.

Odd, I tell you.

And they hit it out of the park again! These guys take the time to care - they found a burnt brake light bulb - and changed it for me for FREE!  Yes, I know it's hardly a big-ticket item, but still - they cared enough, and realized it's the little things that matter.

Seriously, the service guys here are so awesome that I'm tempted to ask to have them act as my sales guys when I decide to get a new car - I know they'd never steer me wrong.

Never, ever, thought I'd be a fan of a Service Department - but here I am!  I've taken my little Toyota to about 4 different dealerships in 3 cities in its lifetime, and this is the best service both I and it has gotten.  Cary in the Service Dept does go above and beyond, and their mechanics do a great job of checking *everything* - yes, Toyota has a checklist they go by, but the Service guys will also go through the list with you, and explain it if you want to know (I often do...).  They are also more than willing to drive you anywhere locally, and their labour rates are cheaper than most other dealerships I've been to.

The Noodle Box - it's the type of place to come to with either a huge appetite, or the willingness to pack home leftovers. It's even packed at 3 pm on a Wed! But don't let a lineup deter you - those cooks are fast!
However, I'd never argue that the food is completely true-to-its-roots: while the thai green curry is awesome, you have to ask that it's served on rice rather than with the Noodle-Box-standard rice noodles.  It doesn't have the depth of flavor that you might at a Thai restaurant (and this location seems to still be working out the kinks in theirs - it's not as good as some of the other locations), and the chicken is hard to find in the meal, but for $10 and a quick carb hit, it's hard to beat!

Serenity, in a coffee shop. Often elusive, rarely maintained. Trafiq's got it though, along with great bakery delights and a decent chai. Gorgeous decor, big windows to let in light, it's the type of place I can easily spend an entire afternoon in. Decent wi-fi, quiet customers - you can get work done here.

Andy's Appliance and Refrigeration

Getting someone to come in, on time, without cancelling or not showing up, and charging me the price they promised, is SURPRISINGLY difficult when dealing with appliance repair.

After having two other companies in Vancouver scheduled to come see my dryer, and having both repairmen not bother to let me know they'd be late (or not come, in one case), I was ready to take my dryer apart myself.  As a last-ditch effort, some Google-fu and a Better Business Bureau logo convinced me to phone Andy's Appliance and Refrigeration.

Andy showed up on time, with his son, and they charged a flat fee of $80 + HST (no matter how long it took to diagnose) to troubleshoot the issue.  He didn't pull punches and told me how much it would be to fix, and that alone made me happy.  He could've fixed it piece by piece, charging me bit by bit, but he was honest and clear.

We need more repairmen like these guys.

Friend: "I'd like a milkshake"
Waitress: "I'm really sorry, but I can't get you one.  We don't have any milk.  And my boss won't let me buy more milk because he wants to do his trip to the discount grocery store".
Friend: "Really?  What if I bought the milk?"
Waitress:  "Sorry, I know it sucks, but he'd get mad."

It got better.

Friend goes to the washroom.  Realizes that no stall has toilet paper, so she texts each and everyone of us to bring her toilet paper.  Waitress lets us know that they don't have toilet paper either, but that she stole a roll from the men's washroom.

It has the *strangest* decor though, and wasn't the 'cool diner' that we hoped it would be, despite being open since 1927.

Beautiful location - you half expect to see a bridal party making their way through the vines overlooking the valley.  The villa would be a spectacular place to have a weekend wedding, and their tasting room is just wonderful too - they have a medieval-styled room just off the tasting room that looks like it would host a great meal.

It's too bad I love the place more than the wines - they aren't bad, but none of them ever stand out for me, at the price point they've chosen.
