A Living Social deal for a Brazilian led me to Studio Vis-A-Vis. It's located close to College and Ossington and was easy to get to by TTC. When I walked in, my coat was taken and I was checked in within 10 minutes. There was no attitude regarding me being through Living Social (as I've had at other establishments) and I sat to await my appointment.

My aesthetician, Florbela, came out, showed me to the room and left to let me disrobe. The room was small but clean. As I waited for Florbela to come back, I tried to calm my nerves at the pain I was about to inflict on myself.  When she came back, she chit chatted with me while she got everything ready. I did enjoy the convo; it helped to keep me at ease. She used both soft and hard wax which I appreciate, because hard wax is essential for sensitive areas. We were over in 45 min;  Florbela was extremely thorough and I was as smooth as a baby's bottom when we were done. They had cream to get off the excess wax; I liked that there wasn't much wax leftover on my skin so cleaning up was easy.

I was pleasantly surprised by Studio Vis-a-Vis. I would definitely go back there when I'm thinking of getting another Brazilian.

Note: If you're prone to ingrowns, this is one of the few Brazilians I've had where I haven't had any.

I had a piercing that closed up on a recent vacation. I originally had it done at New Tribe but since my last experience there wasn't the greatest, I was looking for someone new to stab my body part with a needle. Using my trusty Yelp app (shameless plug!), I saw that Exotix had stellar reviews; also, Six (owner and piercer) was a Now Magazine "Best Of" winner several times. So with those in mind, I emailed to find out about booking an appointment.

Six responded right away. We discussed my options and he let me know the potential price and when we could meet for him to take a look. He let me know that sometimes piercings could be reopened, even if it appeared closed to me. I didn't know that so learning something new made me feel more comfortable choosing Exotix.

I went in the next day and didn't have to wait long for Six to appear. He was very professional and after studying the piercing, realized it would have to be re-pierced. He was meticulous at getting my piercing straight, and explained each step while he was doing it. It hurt like hell for me but he made sure to make it as smooth and quick as possible.

The piercing itself was more than other places I had checked out but Exotix uses internally threaded titanium jewelry. I constantly lose the beads on my piercings so I was happy to pay more, knowing I'm getting top quality products with my piercing.

When Six was done, he explained the aftercare and let me know that I could call anytime if I had any questions or thought anything was wrong with the piercing. I left there happy, confident--which is a lot when you're also in a bit of pain! Exotix will be my no 1 choice from now on for any other piercings I decide to inflict on myself.

Update - 2/9/2012 2 Check-ins Here
I recently went into Rosco Travel to get information on changing some more Trinidadian currency. I was told by Sarah to give my name and number and someone would call me with information.

By the next day, I still didn't receive a phone call so I called in. I spoke to a gentleman who let me know that I could get it in 1-2 business days as long as I called him the following morning.

When I called the next morning, Sarah answered the phone telling me I wouldn't be able to get it for a week because they couldn't order it. I asked her why she took my number and never called back. She proceeded to tell me that she may have taken my number but she's so busy that she can't be expected to remember to call, especially since they don't have it. We went back and forth for a few minutes before she claimed to have a customer and hung up on me.

As a result of SARAH's rudeness and her boss's wrong information, I wouldn't go back there. Unless the anger I'm feeling completely takes over...I'm hoping for Sarah's sake, it doesn't.

I have had to use Western Union a bit for the last month to send money to people in Trinidad (cue the Island music reference). I couldn't send large amounts online and found this location was close to work. I called ahead to find out when it would be open and the lady also allowed me to find out how much it would cost to send money for that day. It was cheaper than using Western Union's website so I was happy.

When I walked over, my transaction was done in 6 minutes. That included walking in, getting set up, handing over the money, getting my transaction receipt AND walking back out. I was so shocked, I didn't know what to do with the rest of my lunch hour.

They also carry currencies for smaller countries. When trying to get Trinidadian currency, the major banks gave me a 3-business day ordering period. Roscoe had quite a large amount on hand and gave me 1-business day period to order more if I needed. Their rate was also lower than the banks. I plan on making myself a regular here.

I can`t really say much about Metro Dental that others haven`t already said. From reception, to the dental hygienist to my dentist, Dr. K, I was made to feel extremely comfortable. The receptionist handled my insurance claims so everything was instant. The dental hygienist gave me recommendations on more comfortable tongue rings (most dentist just tell me to take it out so it was nice to have an alternative rather than judgment). Dr. K takes her time to make sure you understand everything she is doing; I like that she`ll let you know exactly how something is going to feel. Which alleviates anxiety when my eyes closed and foreign objects are going into my mouth...which only happens at the dentist. I swear!

Fishbowls full of alcohol with a rubber alligator swimming in it that you get to keep. If this was the only reason for my review, they would get a 5 out of 5.

Actual BBQ food. Decent. Kudos to having 3 kinds of BBQ sauce on the table so I can suffocate my wings in smoky sauce.

Jalapeno poppers did not taste good. And when I decide not to eat free food, that's saying something.

Bouncer holding open the door for my drunk friend who couldn't open it: also great.

$18.96. That's what my bill says. The only word I can think of is dumbfounded. Dumfounded at how the small amount of food I just consumed came up to $18.96.

I ordered a small pasta. I didn't realise that the size was the equivalent of a kiddies meal. It was bland, no seasoning no flavour. My 12-year-old self made mac and cheese that tasted better and THAT came from a box.

I also figured I'd get a slice of tiramisu. I finished it simply because I paid for it and not because it was good.

Now you're caught up to where I am now, still staring at my bill and wondering why I was charged 12% gratuity to create a grand total of $18.96. It was just me with my kiddie bland pasta & my sh*tty cake. Every time I pass there now, I'll think of all the things I could've bought or the other places I could've eaten at for $18.96.

I went here for a friend's birthday. I had never ventured in but by the happy hour Bay street crowd plus the Yelp views, I was intrigued. Maybe with their extensive beer menu, I could find a beer I truly like.

I made a reservation through Yelp and Open Table. The restaurant called me the day of to confirm and even handled my time change and various requests with ease. I wish I could remember the hostess's name but she was great. Plus her tattoos were awesome!

My friend was literally in awe that I thought I might see a tear trickle from his eye. The beer list amazed him. He even found a beer he didn't think he would consume outside of the Netherlands and got that far away look like he may have died and gone to heaven.

We started our meal with the Kobe beef tacos and they came out quickly--literally so quick, our waitress hadn't even come back with our drinks order yet. Very impressed by the speed.

I ordered the Steak Frites and it was delicious. My friend kept thinking there was something wrong when I was eating slowly but it was so good, I didn't want it to end. The fries were good but nothing special compared to other places I've been.  I really liked their house-made mayo and stopped short of licking the metal container in came in. My friend ordered a side of mashed potatoes that I wasn't too fond of. It may have been too much sour cream but I wasn't a fan.

I was also impressed by our waitress's knowledge. She suggested an ale that perfectly complimented my main dish. My friend suggested cider for me and I enjoyed it a lot.

Appetizer, 2 ales, 2 ciders, meals and dessert = about $120. A bit pricey but around the same level as most high-end restaurants. I may not have found the beer to convert me on this trip but the food was delicious enough, that don't mind giving beerbistro another attempt to convert me to a beer drinker.

I was surprised with a trip here for my birthday because my friend had heard that it was a good burger place. We walked and were instantly greeted and asked if we had any questions. Feeling extremely hungry on the streetcar ride over, I asked for the double double and an order of fries.

The first bite of my burger literally made me think, "OH MY WORD, I would sell my momma for this burger". It was incredibly juicy and tender. It was a bit greasy and messy but I'm a firm believer that some of the best foods have to be messy. Only thing I didn't like were the fried onions I had added to my burger. They didn't taste too different from warm regular onions and weren't worth the $1. The fries weren't anything special but I was too in love with my burger to care. The bread was a bit soggy to from the grease but compared to the taste, it's something I can live with. My friend laughed that by the time he turned to ask how I liked it, I was done my burger and looking at my greasy hands like I was in awe of what I had witnessed. Maybe I was.

When we arrived the place was empty and we were able to sit at the tiny booth they had. I love the other recommendations of sitting outside and I definitely plan on going back to do just that.

I'm not a fan of Moxie's. Why? I'm not a fan of any restaurant that serves food and has low to no lighting. I feel like the darkness is that I don't see how bad the food is. Thankfully for Moxie's, I don't need to see it; I can just taste how bad it is. I've ordered their nachos and they were bland. I ordered a pasta dish and it was average. I've had dessert and even though the white chocolate brownie was okay, I've tasted better elsewhere. I've tried various items and just realized that aside from drinks, they will never be my first pick for going out to eat. There is only ONE item on the menu I like and that is the avocado spring rolls. So much so that the last time I went there, I asked for 2 orders of it as my main.

This one in particular is annoying because it's one of 2 restaurants in Yorkdale that is underground, so no to little cell service. It's hard to tell a person to meet you there and then get a table while you wait.

Sadly, certain friends of mine always seem to want to go here. That's fine--as long as they know that we'll all have to meet beforehand and walk over and that I will ALWAYS eat spring rolls when we go.

I met the lovely Steph C for lunch last week. I walked in & instantly felt like I was in a cafe in Europe. Just felt that way for me.

The place packed up pretty quickly yet I was impressed at how quickly we were served. Our waiter gave us time to talk & didn't overly check in on us.

I ordered the club house panino & I loved it. I ate as slow as possible just to savour the taste. The multigrain was perfect; just the right amount of grain and not too dry. The side salad lists that it comes with a "simple vinaigrette" and it was just that, simple. It didn't have enough dressing for my liking and I would've liked a bit more flavour. Also the lettuce pieces were big; listening to someones convo and trying to shove lettuce into your mouth is awkward. And cutting your lettuce or taking several bites of one piece looks weird.

All in all, the food & experience was good & we both got back to work in sufficient time. The food is a little on the pricey side, closer to sit-down restaurant prices than a lunch-grab spot. Still, I would def try this lunch spot again.
