Steve at Merle Norman in Georgetown did my hair recently -- cut, color and style. He's really, really good! Most importantly, though, he's an amazingly talented colorist. People who really understand how to color hair -- how to mix the chemicals, how different kinds of hair are going to react, how to blend highlights and lowlights, how to fix other colorists' mistakes or deal with stubborn roots, etc. -- are pretty rare, but Steve is definitely one of them. I highly, highly recommend him.

Oh, and ask for the Olaplex treatment too. It made my hair really soft and shiny, and it enhances the color. Great stuff!

The meat is consistently good, particularly the sliced brisket. They have some unique sides, and most of the side items are pretty good. (Though the fried okra often comes out with a lot of excess oil.) The drive-thru is very slow, so my suggestion is to call your order ahead and run inside to get it if you want to take it home.

Prices are significantly lower than nearby competitors like Rudy's and Poke-e-Jo's. We can get a couple of pounds of meat, generous sides (more than we can eat), and drinks for a family of four for $35-$45 at Johnny T's. It's always over $50 at the other places. And Johnny T's meat is better in my opinion.

I'd really like Johnny T's to put a menu online to facilitate call-ahead takeout orders (check out Wix.com if you're reading this, Johnny!). Otherwise, it's good BBQ at a good price.

First visit to Voodoo BBQ, and we'll be back. The owner/manager was so friendly, describing the menu items for us and offering sample bites of meat and sides to help us decide what we wanted. I had the BBQ shrimp, and my husband had the jerk chicken. It was all prepared fresh to order. The shrimp were jumbo-sized and done perfectly -- and there were a lot of them on the plate. The jerk chicken was tender, moist, and flavorful. The sides were also nicely cooked and tasty.

The place is clean, bright, and easy to access/park. Highly recommended for a casual outing and a different take on BBQ.

I followed Francis to Shear Style, and I would follow him anywhere he goes. Francis is a master at highlights and lowlights, and he's an exceptional hair stylist. He does a better job than anyone I've ever been to except a lady at a very expensive exclusive salon who charged a full $100 more than Francis does for comparable expertise. Francis uses a ton of foils and knows how to get depth and texture in the color, without brassiness and no fat "skunk stripes" in the highlights.

Francis is new to Shear Style, and he's only there on Fridays and Saturdays.

The salon itself has pleasant, calming decor and is very clean and well maintained.
