I had a hunkering for a burger, so when I joined my wife for lunch near her work we meandered over here for a quick meal; that was somewhat of a mistake.

Service was not rude, but not on top of things either. The food itself was rather bland; the patty looked like they literally took it out of the freezer pre-shaped and then tossed it on to the grill for 5 minutes.

I miss In-N-Out from California.

A co-worker of my wife's told us about this French restaurant, and having had great French back in Vancouver at Les Faux Bourgois we were looking for a Toronto equivalent, and we think we succeeded.

We managed to have an early dinner on a Sunday before there was a single person there to eat, so we sat down immediately and were watched over by the very friendly staff all night. My wife and I both went with the fixed menu and enjoyed every course, from appetizer to dessert. We walked away very happy people, ready to go back whenever the desire for French food strikes us.

Quite the busy little place! Thanks to our willingness to sit in a booth by the door and the long queue to get a table, my wife and I were able to sit quickly. As all the reviews rave about the pizza I decided to go for a honey an pair affair which was sticky, but still good.

Service was friendly and managed to do a good job of keeping tabs on us even though we were in a hard-to-reach place thanks to the line.

Basically it is missing a star because while the food was good, it didn't cause me to just flip out.

Over time Romers became of one of the de-facto places my wife and I ate at when we lived in Kits. The food continued to be top notch and the service improved as time went on. Now that I have moved away it is one of the restaurants that I miss.

I'm rather picky when it comes to my burgers. Having lived in California for nearly a score makes one spoiled by In-N-Out. It also means that most burger joints in this town do not hold favour with me (let alone impress me).

Romers manages to be good enough for me to be willing to go back when I want a gourmet burger. As other reviews have pointed out, this ain't a cheap place to eat (you don't even get fries with your meal as everything is an extra). But the burger was good.

Service was okay. Overall friendly, but not always on the ball (granted, it was a busy night with all of the tables full but no wait to sit).

In other words I will go back when I get a hunkering for a gourmet burger, but I don't think I will bother taking friends from out of town there.

My wife and I found this restaurant while searching for a place to have dessert. Both of plates were very good. The atmosphere is nice inside. The biggest trouble is the slow service. Our waitress was not very attentive, although lady behind the bar was very friendly.

Apalla

My wife and I decided we were in the mood for Indian, and based on the Yelp reviews and the close proximity to us we decided to give Apalla a try for a sit-down dinner. We were not disappointed.

We had three dishes (butter chicken, beef vindaloo, and a veg dish I don't remember the name of). All three were very good. They warned us the vindaloo and they were not kidding! But they were nice enough to take it down a notch (which was still not mild enough for my wife but fine for me). Toss in rice and garlic naan and the total came in under $40 before HST which seems like a good deal to this Vancouver transplant.

Service was also very friendly and helpful. When my wife needed milk to cool off her mouth from the spice they brought it free of charge. All other requests were handled promptly and with a smile.

Overall we were quite happy with our meal and expect to go back! Only missing a star because it was not a "OMG how can they do this at those prices!" meals.

While the products carried by this shop are fine and seem to be of good quality, I take some issue with the customer service. I went in recently to buy a necklace for a friend for her birthday. While making the purchase I was asked if I wanted a gift receipt, which I did and thought was rather nice of them to offer. I left the store happy with my purchase.

Unfortunately it turned out my friend already has the necklace (which partially killed the feeling of uniqueness of the items in the store since I know she did not get it from LouLou Luv). So I went back to the store with plans to exchange it for something or at least a store credit (being a small shop I have grown accustomed to not getting refunds). But this is when I discovered their 7 day exchange policy. Now they have a sign in front of the register, which I admit I missed as the lady helping me took the purchase from me at their jewelry counter and we went straight to the register; no dawdling which would have allowed me to see the sign. It was obvious from my face when I went back to exchange the necklace that I was completely shocked to find out what the exchange policy is.

Had I been warned about the exchange policy when I said the necklace was a gift I would not be complaining. Had the lady today asked if I was over by a day I would not be complaining. But the lack of inflexibility for what seems to be a non-standard exchange (not return!) policy window, especially for something known to be a gift, begins to eat away at the few perks you would think you would get from a small, local shop: flexibility, understanding, and a personal touch to know what to tell people.

Since this might be common in small jewelry stores I am stopping myself form giving a full-on 1 star rating, but I will not be going back.

T Tea Company - CLOSED

In the name of disclosure, my girlfriend used to work here and still has several great friend who work at the shop. But even if she had not worked there and I didn't know half the staff personally I would still give this place four stars. Why? Selection and service, the most important being the latter when you want to go in and sit down to enjoy a relaxing tea.

The staff would not be friends if they were not extremely friendly, helpful individuals. I have never seen them greet customers without a smile on their face and a friendly pick-up in their voices. And they are always accommodating (tea people are just as picky as coffee people).

And obviously they have a lot of tea. And earlier this year they introduced in-house baked goods which all taste fantastic. I was always quite happy when my girlfriend brought a scone home for me at the end of the day (they are very stringent about the freshness of the baked goods, so anything that might be stale after a day are not served past the day they are made).

So what keeps this place from getting five stars? It's the lack of support for people wanting to relax on their computers there. First off, the tables are a bit high, forcing you to rest your arms on the edge of the table in order to type. That becomes painful after a while. And this is coming from someone who is 6'6" tall, so I am not kidding when I say the tables a higher than average.

They also lack WiFi. So this means you can't just sit on your laptop or tablet leisurely browsing the Internet or catch up on emails while sitting in the shop.

Huge portions of simple food is how I would describe my experience at Neighbours. I ordered the lasagna and it tasted fine while having a huge serving of it. Service was extremely friendly.

Alamo Guest House

My girlfriend and I came and stayed at the Alamo for three nights in July 2010. We actually screwed up and arrived a day early but we were happily accommodated for the evening in one of the newly renovated, higher-end suites. The other two nights we were in a standard room which had also been upgraded with a new TV.

During the whole stay the staff was very friendly and helpful. We never felt like we were putting anyone out by asking questions even when the staff was working. Things were clearly explained to us, such as when an emergency electrical problem would keep the power out for most of a day.

The location is also really nice. You are across the street from Kelvingrove Park and Museum and easy walking distance of the U. of Glasgow. And with the museum right there you can easily hop on a tour bus to see the rest of Glasgow.

Basically I have nothing to complain about. =)
