Best Chai i've ever had. Will have to return as the setting, staff, and food all look wonderful.

First of all,  I like takoyaki. This is not takoyaki. It is bakudanyaki, an original (?) creation akin to takoyaki and there's nothing wrong with that. Tastes great if you like takoyaki and that is not an easy taste to find in Vancouver and area.

So where does it go wrong?  Location sucks and the price is double what I think it should be. $17 for three baseball sized yakis and one drink is way too much. It's not like we have a table or a warm dry place to sit. No we have our cars which end up smelling like fish flakes. Not even a picnic bench was there when we visited.

It also goes wrong, for me at least, in that I can achieve the same taste at home. In fact, we do.  We make takoyaki quite easily.  If you don't then maybe this will satisfy that craving.  The simple fact is, though, that this kind of operation works better as a market/street snack that you walk by rather than one that you have to drive to.

I'd rate it higher if the price was lower.

I'll keep this short and sweet.  There is no perfect ramen shop in Vancouver (we just don't have the right ingredients, I think) but all the same it is a ramen joint and if you like ramen then this is what you need to know:

Good broth (their best feature).
Rubbery noodles.
Tough chashu (pork).
Comfortable seating (far more comfortable and clean than Kintaro)
Clean washrooms.

And the big one:
Open before Kintaro and Motomachi.

Green Lemongrass

Came here when the Chinese place a few doors down had too long a wait and we didn't want to drive to our usual Viet place. Couldn't be happier with this turn in events. The pho was awesome. Not too heavy and with each flavour still distinct. The springrolls were the best I've had in a looking time.  Looks like we got a new favourite.

By the way the place is very comfortable and good if you have kids. Service is excellent, a well.

I wrote this about a month ago and can confirm that Green Lemongrass rocks.  We went back there yesterday and they remembered us (well, not us as in me and the wife, but us as in the cute baby we like to tote around).

This time we went with the Springrolls and Minced Shrimp on Sugarcane side and I'd recommend going that route.  Not only do you get the two fantastic springrolls and one shrimp on sugarcane cut in half but also some salad and vermicelli.  Very, very good.

Again, very comfortable there and the staff are fantastic!  So friendly and sweet.

Sprouts on a burger?  You bet!

Hello my name is Will and I am a burger junkie. It has been 5 minutes since my last burger and I am already thinking about the next.

Splitz I almost a good as they come in Vancouver.  The great?  Service with a smile and dedication as you watch your meal made with love and care. The list of toppings is tremendous with wasabi mayo being a must. Not to mention the alfafa sprouts everyone seemed to order. My assembled burger was almost too big to fit in my mouth!

The not so great?  Maybe it was this first visit but I found the meat to be overseasoned and just a tad on the salty side. Not offensively so but enough to keep this joint from pulling a 5 star rating.

I'll be back and next time  bringing the kids to share a banana split.

No beans about it, this is one of if not the best neighbourhood cafes in all of Vancouver!  Awesome americanos, great style, and incredible desserts to tempt you. Yes, they also have wifi but it is not a large place a seating anytime can be difficult to find.  That said, being a neighbourhood joint means always being able to find a great conversation around you and that is very true with this spot. Go!

Might I suggest the German Chocolate Cake?  Or better yet, don't.  Seriously.  When I go there I want my cake and it is often the first item to sell out.  The paninis are good, too.  I don't think I've had anything in the joint that was disappointing.  Staff are friendly and you will often find people ordering up something freshly roasted to take home... and do they have a wide selection of beans!  Awesome place.

A true Italian cafe with all the right modem touches. It recently went through a big renovation and is a great neighbourhood spot to sit and gab with the neighbours. If the owner, Frank, is there be sure to say hi.

Recommendations: Americano, espresso, and any of the food.

John's & Nick's Barber Shop

John just gave me a haircut and I got to say it was as old-school as you can get. This is a man who knows hair. I sat down in one of the two chairs and said nothing. He just went straight to work. Then I piped in that I wanted it short.  That was about all the conversation we had.  If you want a chatty barber, this may not be the place but if you want a barber who works with a pair of scissors and an experienced eye then this is just the place for you.

What I got was a traditional short haircut just like I wanted. This ain't no fancy pants salon!

Maybe that's why I got what I wanted. You see, if you want more I'm sure they could give it to you but for the most part this is a straight up barber shop (minus the spinning pole outside). As good as one gets. And all for $10!

Honey Doughnuts & Goodies

This is absolutely an incomplete review.  I know that this place is a monument in the Deep Cove community and a visit is sure to get you a friendly welcome and some very pleasant chat with other patrons.  You will quickly come to realize just how many people here know each other and have been coming here for years.

You'll learn from them just what makes Honeys so good as you do what most tourists do; bite into your doughnut.

So I will base my review on the doughnut and iced coffee.

Doughnut:  fat, heavy, oily, sweet, traditional, classic.  It is unlike anything else you've had and likely something you wouldn't want to eat more than one of.

Iced Americano:  This is not a good choice.  Unless I missed it no cafe should ever served iced coffee drinks if they do not have liquid sugar.  I may have missed it as this was a very busy day in the shop so I will let this slide.  Besides, I've had regular coffee there and it was fantastic.

Location:  Excellent with a great patio on the strip.

Would I go back?  Absolutely, anytime I'm in Deep Cove.  Though next time I'll grab one of their sandwiches.

Tomahawk Barbeque

First things first, I can only, regretfully, review breakfast.  Now, normally that wouldn't be so bad but the thing is that we got there too early for our intended lunch and I really had my stomach set on a Skookum Chief burger.

But what is life with regrets?  Especially when the breakfast you get to feast on (feast is an appropriate word as you will see when your food arrives) something like the Yukon breakfast.  The Yukon bacon (which I'd never heard of before but will never forget) was fantastic and plentiful.  The scrambled egg was fluffy.  The hash browns were hash browns.  And the toast was toast.

Wife had the pancakes and I am smitten (I never use words like smitten, btw) with their maple syrup.

Our 3 year old daughter had a great time and ate half of the pancakes, then went looking for more.

So to sum up:  Great breakfasts. Great place for friends, family, little ones, everyone.  Great atmosphere.

And I promise to come update this after I get my burger.

(would have been 5 stars but there was a slight service screw-up with our syrup and butter... if it happens again I'll let you know).
