When I'm Not Yelping...I`m scoping out a place to yelp
Why You Should Read My ReviewsWe all know you have nothing better to do anyways!
My Second Favorite Website The Last Great Book I ReadMicroelectronic Circuits... have been reading it for 3 years.. not done yet :)
My Last Meal On Earthmy own damn cooking... I wonder why I go out so much
Thanks to Kat for organizing this and getting all that amazing food to come out (unfortunately I missed all the appetizers!), everything was great and it was nice meeting some new Yelpers I hadn't met before!
Oh and just an FYI, Jay and I yet again managed to grab the last two drinks of the night, I do believe we are on a streak! As long as you don't count the last event (doesn't count since I wasn't there!)
Important Notes: CASH ONLY!
This place is pretty much a completely ad-hoc restaurant. You walk in, no menu is served, it's on a plastic stand on a table with limited choice (Wonton, Fish ball or beef noodle soup or non-soup), vegetables with oyster sauce and that's pretty much it. Also nothing is actually served except the food, so you gotta get up from your lazy ass and serve yourself some tea (meh I guess I can do that but it makes me pretty reluctant in providing any tip!).
Now one thing about this place that it's known for and that is it's INSANE SPEED!! You can be in and out of this place in less than 10 minutes flat if you're in a rush! My friends and co-workers had constantly told me about the ridiculous speeds at which they serve their food here so I decided to actually time it to see if they were bullshitting me or not. KID YOU NOT, we ordered 2 wonton noodle soups and a plate of chinese vegetables with oyster sauce. The timing is as follows:
30 SECONDS AFTER ORDER: Vegatables Served!!!!
25 SECONDS AFTER VEGETABLES: Both wonton noodles soups Served!!
Yes you read that right, nearly A MINUTE after walking into the restaurant we were already served our food! Now this brings up the question of what the hell are they serving us but it actually was pretty decent. The food is a bit bland but the shrimp wontons are pretty big and for $4.50 I cannot complain one bit!
15 Word Summary: Best takeout Asian BBQ Pork, in terms of price, flavour, and quick takeout turnover blah. (there it's 15 words)
BBQ'ed food is already legendary as is but Asian style BBQ is some sort of mythical magical food expedition that you only get to experience if you're lucky and end up in a great restaurant.
Luckily Kum Hong BBQ is one of those great restaurants. For $5.25 (CASH ONLY) you get a bed of rice with a good serving of juicy, delicious, amazing BBQ pork. In terms of price, flavour and texture, this BBQ CANNOT be beat (yes I challenge you to find a competitor!).
However I have to say that this place really isn't much of a "restaurant". Tea is self-serve, there's no real dining space except for two small counters where you will be crowded by the lineup of people looking to fill their appetites with BBQ Pork, chicken, duck, etc. But I don't really care as long as they can keep the cost as low as this!

You Never Forget Your First Elite Event @ Salvador…

As with everyone else, I'm looking forward to meeting more Yelpers at the next event!
And yes they offer A LOT of tea. They have a good 10 page menu that ONLY lists different types of teas (BBT's, Fruit Teas, hot teas, cold teas, etc, etc). And they also have a large section where you can buy your own loose leaf teas and tea pots and the such.
They also do offer some food but that's not why I would come here (although I've never tried any dishes yet!)

Jack Astor's Bar & Grill
Categories: Nightlife, American (New)
Food (I'll update this as I remember the rest of the dishes I've had here haha):
-They have a dip which I forget - not their lobster crab, but it's a spinach dip I think - is absolutely amazing!!)
-Wings are "meh", look for the other dishes
The service was okay but honestly the food was not even worth half it's price. DO NOT get their cactus cut potatoes!! Why would you pay $9 to get plain potato chips with a plain yogurt dip?
And their pizza's that are supposed to be so good were far less tasty than any Pizza Pizza pizza so why am I paying $12 for an "individual" size pizza?
This should only be a last resort unless ALL the other restaurants in this plaza are full!!

Golden Court Abalone Restaurant
Category: Dim Sum
We were a big group of 10 and ordered nearly half the menu to try and I can honestly say there was not ONE dish that didn't like. Service was quick and they were very attentive. There was only one dish outstanding which was taking a while but we were able to cancel it with no problems. After splitting the bill, it came to just over $10 / person (yes this was for lunch too so it was supposed to be expensive) and for the amount of food we ate, there definitely was not a better deal.
The only "part" issue was that they charged us nearly $8 for tea! I think it's a flat rate for large groups and although we got around 4 or 5 tea pots worth, it still seemed a bit hefty.
**Note On Tea: At Golden Court they bring you a SUPER concentrated tea pot which is so bitter it's nearly undrinkable and then they bring you a large flask of hot water. Simply mix together and enjoy! We made the mistake of spending half our lunch trying to down the tea by itself wondering why it was so bitter.
Either way, great great place and I'll definitely be back.
The place is usually half empty, service is pretty slow and the food isn't amazing but if you're coming back from a party or just have those late night grease cravings, head over here and get your fill for cheap.

15 Word Review: "A fun experience with good food made better by leaving your jacket in your car!"
Generally when you start walking towards a restaurant and realize you can't see inside because of the steam from the food inside, it should be a good indicator to go inside with as few items of clothing as possible unless you enjoy doing laundry!
However regardless of this fact, Rolling Pot is a great hot pot (or Shabu Shabu, whichever you prefer) place and if you've never been it's a fun experience!
1) You start out by ordering your broth in which your food will be cooked in
2) Order up all the items you want (raw meats - pork, lamb, beef, shrimp, veggies, greens, etc, etc)
3) Walk up to the "Make-Your-Own-Sauce" counter and mix as many possible types of sauces as you can and pray it turns out for the better
4) DUMP EVERYTHING IN!!!
5) Consume with your specialty sauce and enjoy!!
Good thing was the food tasted really good but I would've preferred if this place was cleaner. They served us water with murky glasses (others with raw beef chunks on them) and a lot of the place looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages!
And I'm taking another 0.5 star off for the rather slow and off service. Given the place was full and it's an AYCE (all-you-can-eat) place so the servers are running around but I was hoping they would be a bit more attentive.
All in all though, Rolling Pot provided a group of us Yelpers with a good time and good food so I can't complain! And I'm sure I'll be back here again soon!
