4.5!

I wish the DVP wasn't such a mental barrier to a west-sider like me; otherwise, along with Djerba La Douce, I would make this one of my regular hangouts.

I love me some good Turkish food, and this place has it. I shoved their tasty pide into my mouth like it was going out of style. Delicious.

Also, I agree with Mike G - the man behind the counter was great; so much so I kept going up and talking to him, which led to me leaving with a serving of their (I believe it was baked) rice pudding, which, from my years of consuming rice pudding, is one of the absolute best I've ever had. As I walked down the street shovelling it down, I was even tempted to return for more.*

You're sizzlin'.

*Really, I did. Ask my lunch-mate.

I feel like a high queen here. There were ample servers on guard, ready for the task, just watching to make sure I was having a satisfactory visit. Water glass was kept full throughout the entire stay.

Also, had the chana batura dish - I was so full my cheeks almost exploded. As in traditional thali-style joints, the server was at my table when I'd finished wiping the plate clean, asking me if I wanted more chana so I could use up the leftover bread.

I wonder if I can take a raincheque on that offer.

These guys know a thing about service and treating customers right, and I would definitely return if I lived closer to the area. It's only been open for a short while, but the place was packed by 630PM.

It may be a bit on the pricey side, but their Korean tacos were pork belly-licious and the terrine board of the day featured foie gras that was so smooth and amazing, I almost wanted to bring it back up an eat it all over again.

(But that would be gross, so I didn't.)

Despite having the word "EXPRESS" in their name, this place certainly doesn't offer the speediest service on the planet. If you keep that in mind, however, you'll have a good time:

I mean, the food is pretty good!

I agree with Taiyab - this doesn't appear to be an Afghani restaurant by all accounts, but the kebab dinner I had was great, despite the naan being a tad bit dry. Their rolls are a cheap on-the-go option, too, if you're not feeling the need to pick up a fork and knife and work for your food.

The wait for the food can be a little too much for what appears to be a fast-food joint on the outside, especially when your stomach is eating itself, but hopefully it's a sign that they're actually preparing the food fresh to order.

Empanadas. Hot chocolate. Tealish ice teas. (I'm eyeing my coconut bongo as I type this.)

So quiet here; perfect place for me to get some work done! (But apparently not enough work, since I'm writing this review.) (Shaking fist at Yelp.)

I am by no means a music store connoisseur, but this place has great staff w/ no mightier-than-thou attitudes - so important for someone who is a relative newbie to music.

Plus, I'm renting an instrument for $12/month. That's just three fancy coffees!

I just love hanging out in this place. The servers are friendly, quick to laugh, and the best part? There are TWO patios - one right on Augusta for prime people watching opps, and another cozy one tucked away in the back that makes you feel like you're somewhere on the fringe of everything Hip, Urban, and Yuppie-ville (in the most flattering way, of course).

For a lazy Sunday afternoon, there's nothing better. Love it.

PS. If it's summer, ask about "The Special" - a tasty mint syrup/shredded cucumber concoction. Zing!

Love the service - the people are fantastic here...

But am I missing something regarding the food? I think we had about a sneeze-worth of sausage/chicken in our wraps.

[in cranky old lady's voice] Where's the beef?

2.5, bumped to 3 for service.

Thank goodness I was in a chair while eating the Moroccan wrap. I think I would've lost balance and fainted otherwise.

Perfect blend of food, great service, and a nice way to retreat from the SXSW madness.

Carb lovers, get outta here! The rest of you, enter and love, love, love.

There are many places in Chinatown to mow down on a Chinese baked good, but Hong Kong Island is the only one where I find buns that are still warm, oddly at whatever time I go... Of course, this isn't the case for every bun, but I tend to find a warm tray and I'm usually pleased with whatever it is. The pineapple-custard buns and coconut ball buns are what keep my blood flowing, as do the horse/crispy cookies and coconut loafs. My stomach vacuums 'em up!

PS. Their puff pastry items aren't that great compared to others in the area -- stick with the buns.
