Recently relocated from her Commercial Drive location,  my go-to esthetician has moved to my North Burnaby neighborhood. Rita's new home is a cozy, comfortable room at Planet Hair studio. I can tell you that Rita is AMAZING. She is lightening fast (which is a plus for the more painful waxing procedures) and completely thorough. I have never been disappointed with a service from Rita. She is charming and always a treat to talk to. And I especially love it that she remembers my husband's name and to ask after my coworkers (who are also addicted to Rita's services) . And she doesn't mind accommodating my stroller and infant son on those days when I can't get a break from being a mom. I've only tried the waxing services, but she also offers manicures and pedicures which I'm sure are great.

As if great services weren't enough, Rita offers an incredible value. most services I've had are a third to half the price I've paid for a similar service at other local salons!

Thanks to the reviews here on Yelp, we decided to give Burnaby Palace a try last night. I am so happy to have found a Chinese delivery place that doesn't make me feel like I made a huge mistake in ordering take-out.

The food arrived in less time than quoted and we were overwhelmed with the large portions! We ordered the dinner for 8 for the group and there was probably enough food for 12! There was a good variety of dishes included in the special and I really appreciated the number of fresh, discernible vegetables in the dishes! The sauces weren't overly sweet or slimy and the noodles were perfect! We will definitely order from here again, but not for awhile because I think we'll be eating Chinese for days with all the leftovers!

My husband chose Joe Fortes for his birthday dinner this year and while it would not have been my first choice, the excellent service and especially fresh seafood changed my mind!

A group of eight of us had 6:30 reservations on a Friday night. And even though the place was packed our server, Eddy, made us feel like the most important table there. He was attentive, but not pushy. His oyster and entree recommendations were right on and we couldn't have been happier with the overall experience.

The oysters were our reason for going and we were not disappointed. We sampled several varieties and all were fresh and delicious! The local oysters were extra tasty. We ordered the Cold Seafood Tower and a Steak entree to share. The steak was average and we really could have done without. The Seafood Tower was amazing and next time we will get just that and add a couple of sides.

I never imagined myself taking up the crafty art of scrap booking, but as a new mom, I find myself yearning to preserve every little memory and milestone. Goofy, I know, but there it is. When I finally gave into the urge, I started collecting my supplies at Making Memories. The staff was so helpful and quickly walked me through the overwhelming amount of choices in paper, stamps, inks, adhesive, etc. etc. etc. And anyone who has shopped with an infant appreciates an efficient sales person! So with craft scissors in hand and a noggin full of ideas, I am now officially a scrap booker.

Robin trained me during my entire pregnancy and I couldn't have been happier with the results!

She customized a weekly routine to meet my changing needs throughout the pregnancy to help me feel healthy , strong, and ready for delivery. I definitely feel like I owe an easy delivery and recovery in great part to Robin's work.

I was challenged to push myself and Robin kept things interesting by varying my workouts with indoor and outdoor sessions. I ended up thinner and more toned post pardum than I was when I started and I was able to keep my pregnancy weight down to 19lbs, even though I was indulging with my nutrition.

And speaking of nutrition, Robin was able to advise on my nutrition choices and offered great ideas to help maintain a healthy weight.

Robin was flexible with her scheduling, often willing to move an appointment when I wasn't feeling well and I really appreciated the personal attention she provided. I know she was spending her personal time researching exercises that would be appropriate for me and her efforts paid off!

I really can't say enough good things! I am looking forward to resuming my sessions after the holiday season! I'll need it! I would definitely give Robin a call whether you are looking for a few sessions to tone up before an event or a long term relationship - Robin is exactly what you need!

I always head over the Triple A before hitting Safeway when it is shopping day. The produce is a fraction of the price and the variety almost rivals my favorite Commercial Drive markets. They also often have a beautiful selection of potted and fresh flowers to choose from. The pantry section of the shop is a good place to find those more exotic ethnic ingredients that aren't available in chain stores and the dried spices are about $2 cheaper on average than right next door at Safeway. It's heaven for a frugal shopper like myself that doesn't always have time to leave my North Burnaby neighborhood.

We had a great experience at Me-n-ed's last weekend. I was looking for a place with a little old school atmosphere to host a casual birthday dinner for a friend. Me-n-Ed's was above and beyond what I hoped for.  The high backed wooden booths and checkered floor tiles provided that "kids birthday party in 1980" feeling (the screaming toddlers at the table next to us probably didn't hurt either). The pizzas we ordered were all delicious. The Godfather and BBQ chicken were favorites. The chicken wings were roasted, not friend and the hot sauce had the right amount of zing. Our server was amazing and not only comped us a birthday dessert (Mile High Mud Pie - enough said), but threw in an extra jug of beer on the house! He was attentive and our drinks were always full! All in all, it was a great night. This is definitely a family friendly place and I would recommend the pizza for an anytime craving or take your whole crew for a real pizza parlor experience!

Dr. Kim-Sing was recommended by our labour and delivery doctor to perform our son's circumcision. Dr. Kim-Sing's office was very accommodating when we had to reschedule our appointment at the last minute. Dr. Kim-Sing was efficient and informative when during the appointment and provided all the information we needed on recovery after the procedure. The cost was more than comparable to the same service with other doctor's and we are very happy with the outcome so far.

A friend of mine and I went to The Greedy Pig in search of ideas for whiskey themed cocktails for an upcoming dinner party. We found what we were looking for and a whole lot more! The comfortable, modern room was empty when we arrived save one guy enjoying a beer at the bar. Cam, the owner was quick to welcome us and jump right in with descriptions of his favorite bourbons and whiskeys. My friend sampled a few and we spent a good hour chatting, asking questions, and even running our menu by the chef who was excited to offer ideas! We didn't have a chance to try any of the food, but the menu looked amazing and a the chef told me the fall menu items would be appearing soon. I can definitely see making a pig of myself at The Greedy Pig in the near future.

Popped into Saki Maki yesterday for a quick lunch with my husband. I'd been wanting to try The Drive's newest sushi joint for several months now and it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I was delighted to see quite a few interesting lunch combinations for just $6.50 and even a 'Pick any 2" section for the same price.  The portions were obviously smaller than some of the other places nearby, but I'd heard the quality was great. I definitely wasn't disappointed in the taste of all the items we ordered. Everything was nicely prepared and served beautifully. my Won Ton Soup was especially nice as was the deep fried Tuna Roll my husband ordered from the specials board. It would have been a perfectly nice experience with great food and pleasant service had it not been for the fact that I waited almost 45 minutes for my food! Forty Five minutes! And I ordered soup! Not much was offered in way of explanation for this. My husband was completely finished eating before I'd been served and couldn't really enjoy his meal as he'd like to because he was worried about me. I'll definitely give this place another shot, but I might just call my order in from desk before I arrive and take it to go.
