Depends on what you're looking for....there's obviously  more restaurants in each category to offer but off the top of my head, here are some that come to mind. Some have nice ambiance and are pricier and some serve great food at great prices without much of a decor and some are middle of the road. Cheers!

Pooh thank you for the list. Some I do recognize the name but not enough reviews to be sure. Looksl like you're one of the few winnipeggers active on yelp! You should apply to be an ambassador!

Not a lot of yelpers on the Winnipeg site - but it has been improving over the last while if you can believe it! I wish more people would yelp here but I think more people like to read the reviews than write. It is hard to judge a place when there's only one review on a place and two if you're lucky!

As for Resto Gare, I think it's fine to go alone with your book. The place has a lot of history to it but it's not fancy in a snobby way. There's a the train section (literally you sit in a train car) or in the regular dining room. Often, one is more busy than the other, so you can choose the more quiet section to enjoy your meal in. I think they're open on Sundays so maybe it'll be more quiet? I'm not sure.

Since you're near the airport, I forgot about this other Portuguese place that makes super juicy roast chicken (among other Portuguese dishes) called Chave d'Ouro. http://www.yelp.ca/biz... They close fairly early like 8 pm but great place to dine in for a quick meal or pick up something for dinner as it's not too far from the airport, but really, nothing is too far in this city if you have a car. There isn't much in terms of decor but great comfort food.

I ended up going to Bistro Dansk (yum) and Chave D'Oro (double yum).
Also visited Joey's and D'Acquistos with some work people.
May favourite had to be Baraka Bakery tho. Too Bad I was too full to try the baklava.
