In May a friend of mine and I are flying out to San Francisco for a little holiday. We plan to spend half the time in San Francisco and the other half in Los Angeles.
I have some questions for you sweet people.
What is the best hostel to stay at in San Francisco? What is the better way to travel from SF to LA, train or bus? Any websites you can offer me? Advice? I've never been before and I am very stoked.
Ya so basically Hostels, trains and buses to LA and oh the best way to get to Napa Valley for the day!
Thanks you guys are sweethearts

You should really post on the san francisco/ LA threads. I live in the Bay area and go to LA a lot so you're gonna have fun. Travel between SF and LA is about 300 miles: 6 hours by car and  1 hour by plane. There used to be a $1 bus ticket on http://Megabus.com but I think they stopped that. Flights are pretty cheap if you book ahead of track them with travelzoo or airfare watchdog. find out where in LA you want to go to since it's HUGE and there are about 4 airports in the area. LAX is central SNA is around the OC there's also Burbank airport near Hollywood ETC. Also the hostel depends on what you want. There are thousands of places to stay. Hosteling international is the 1st place to start. The Green Tortoise is a bit more fun, and if you want to explore the coast a bit and stay in a really cool place, try this:

It's like 20(?) miles from SF but in a Lighthouse and hard to get rezzies for unless you book in advance. Most of this info can be found online but if you have more specific questions feel free to ask. I travel back and forth from SF to the Peg so I feel you. Good luck.
