I'm heading to Vancouver this October for my honeymoon, and looking for things to do while we're up there. My fiance and I went to Portland this winter and hit up Noble Rot, which we truly loved, so something in that vein would be excellent.

Despite the fact this is a honeymoon trip, the location need not be stereotypically "romantic" and we'd probably prefer if it wasn't.

Any suggestions?

There's always these two that impress me:

    Cru:

There's a new place that just opened up on Commercial Drive which typically has all great establishments so I'm thinking it has to be pretty good to compete with surrounding restaurants etc. I've been meaning to try it.

It's called DiVino, that's if you're feeling adventurous

Although this isn't a Wine Bar, if you're a foodie you gotta check out Granville Island Market. I believe they sell wines there as well. Check it out here

A great secret old-school hotel lounge is the Sylvia Hotel on English Bay (downtown). Beautiful view of the ocean, sunset, comfy atmosphere and no video screens! Modest wine list, but good value for the atmosphere. Sorry -- it's a bit romantic, too.

Salt is wicked. And so is Soma - great food and wines. And there's always the classic Bin 941 and Bin 942.

Has anyone tried Uva Wine Bar? It's on the corner of Seymour and Smithe, near the Orpheum. I just passed by it and it looks really cool.

Yeah, I went to Uva not long ago.  Cool decor, lots of German tourists.  The wine list by the glass was mid-sized -- about what you'd get at a bar with a good wine list (like, say, the Cascade Room), and I think it was a bit overpriced for the quality, which didn't bowl me over.  Brix has a better list if you're in Yaletown.  But I will echo the Salt recommendation -- love Salt.  I haven't had a great experience with the staff at Soma, who seemed a bit snotty, and I like the food / selection / fun of choosing things at Salt better.

Also just a note to Sarah -- Soma's a bit farther afield as it isn't downtown -- you'll need a cab or a car.
