On a recent trip to Vancouver we tried shopping along Robson street and didn't see anything to get too excited about.

So, my question is - where are the good boutiques? What are the good hidden neighborhoods?

Robson has your generic chain stores like Banana Republic and the Gap. There are a lot of good boutiques on 4th Ave. in Kitsilano (http://vancouver.com/s...) and on Main Street (http://vancouver.com/s...).

    I just reviewed LUSH.

But yeah, Robson made me think "outdoor mall" with a lot of Starbucks.

Robson's Street is Vancouver's answer to Rodeo Drive.
Gucci, Armani, Vigin Records, bebe and  then homegrown favorites like Lush, Roots, and Aritzia.
For some bling  - check out Blue Ruby, Saatchies & Saatchies and Plenty.
And then there's the Food!  You need to keep your energy up for all the shopping.
Try Cin-Cin or the Catus Club. There's a starbucks on every corner and they are all busy.

The Gastown/Victory Square neighbourhood has some great shops - independent boutiques like the Block Clothing company (big-name brands like Lacoste), Dream (local designers), and Deluxe Junk Company  and Mintage (vintage). There's also the new flagship John Fluevog store on Water Street. There are no other shoes!
Loads of great restaurants and cafes dotting the whole neighbourhood. It's all on the border of sketchyville, though, so if you don't want to be bothered, think twice about patio seating.

my vote is Gastown!  tons of great little shops.. can a be a bit touristy, but if you filter through all the nonsense there are some great little gems to be found there.  Mainstreet is also another up and comming hood, you know the 30 something hipsters that now have kids..

Ah this is my stomping grounds :)  4th & Kitsilano area all have great shops so does Commercial Drive...

Gastown is more touristy but as you get to the edges there are some of the higher end boutiques available there as well.

SOMA - South Main is also a burgeoning area (Main & Broadway) and anywhere on Main street from the 20's down have a ton of boutiques.  One to check out there is Eugene Choo

if you want boutiques  robson is definitely not the place to go. i would recommend main street (between 10th and about  27th ave ) or commercial. (starting from below 15th ave i think..). gastown has some good boutiques aswell. 4th ave start at burrard and head west

If you want commercial-in-every-city-in-No rth-America brands, than Robson street is a haven...Zara, Club M, Banana Republic, Gap, LuluLemon etc...if you want independent, local and slightly 'off the grid' designers and their wares than I would concur that Gastown, SOMA and Commerical Drive are the way to go.

SOMA is probably where the majority of my clothing $s go...The Front, La Boheme, Eugene Choo, Life of Reily, C'est La Vie, Kris and Chris (they have a good selection of random sunglasses and cheapish stuff). But one of my fave's is the Portobello West Markets, over in the Rocky Mountaineer Station (near the Main street terminal, back behind the Home Depot). Running from March 28th thru the end of Dec on the last sunday of every month, they have a wonderful selection of local designers and artists with their wares. GREAT place to pick up one of a kind jewelry, dresses, tanks, hair accessories, note paper, jackets, bags, pottery etc...and many of these artists sell directly or via etsy.

Commercial Drive has some really unique stores... really tere's a bit of everything. By the end of your day, you're bound to have found something you love! Try looking in Penelope's on the Drive, Exposure, Spank or any of the other great stores on the Drive. :)
